It's the photo that is expired, not the license

I suspect this is correct. In late 2023, I managed to pay a speeding fine and get my licence endorsed with three points, all with the photo card having expired!

I honestly just didn’t notice - and as I was dealing with the recent death of my dad, and helping mum through it etc, I reckon that’s a good enough excuse.

I only worked it out when I kept checking the online portal to see when my points had been added, as I was trying to get myself added to the insurance on both parental cars. Once it sunk in I drove straight to the post office to put in for a new one.

Shat myself, and worried for a week, until I got the speeding fine payment paperwork back with ‘No further action’ stamped on it.

I reckon if my licence had really been invalid when I got flashed by a speeding camera, there would have been more repercussions.

That is all.

One tip, it to tighten the other bolts a bit which may* release tension on the offending bolt.

Had a £100 fine and three points in the post yesterday.  Tried to pay online and was unable, blocked for some reason, it didn't say so but I expect it was because the licence is invalid.  Had the same thing from the DVLA site trying to renew it.

Had to do both by post and both a bit of a nightmare.  Conflicting information for paying the fine.

The an email from LV to say that I wasn't covered as the licence was invalid.  Lovely.

As I understand it, from my recent job, if the photo is expired then the licence is no longer valid. You must renew it every 10 years to stay valid. This is what Europcar insisted. If the date on the front was expired then the licence is no longer valid until you have a new photo.
Edit:

The photo must be renewed for the licence to be valid no matter the expiration dates of the categories you are entitled to drive.

I at some point yesterday managed to catch the button for opening my boot on my keys. Didn't go out yesterday or really even look outside.

Imagine my surprise when I found my boot open this morning and two cats from across the road in the car.

Nice, were they just chilling out in the back ?

One had made its way into the passenger footwell, which must have been a feat given the parcel shelf was properly attached.

It's not often cars end up with more cats after a forced entry

right had my combi boiler fitted in the house today

took a while but hey ho

ideal 24kw thing, it looks shiny but anyway

decided to christen it and try it with a shower

so, despite the bathroom being downstairs it was fed from the loft tank, worked fine and good pressure, same with the hot

so my thoughts

water pressure is less than half of what it was

turn the shower on and it takes a good few minutes to get hot water through

i've had to turn the water temp on the boiler up to maximum to get it hot enough

central heating isn't quite as warm either

now bear in mind i had a tiny glowworm micron before, that took longer to heat up but it got warmer

on demand hot water is a bonus

look i've never been a combi fan, and didn't have the choice with it being a rented house

i tried to give it a shot

i'm just not impressed at all, what's the appeal people see in them? i don't get it

Doesn’t sound like it’s working properly and probably not installed properly.

Why do you still have a tank? They work off the mains , so you should get a mains pressure shower which is better than any other unless something else is using water.

It shouldn’t take minutes for hot water to come through. Mine takes about 10 seconds for the shower (near the boiler) and maybe 15 for the kitchen hot tap which is further away.

Pressure and flow are two different things. You can have high pressure but a low flow rate.

A 24kw combi is the smallest you can get and will struggle with hot water demand in these current low weather temperatures. The mains coming into your house will be lower than in the summer.

Try running the tap nearby just before you turn the shower on, let it pull hot water through

Exactly how it is. Can't beat a massive tank of hot water in your loft.

However...

One of my neighbours went for a holiday with her daughter, who lives in the USA, became ill and been  there 6 months.

Water was noticed running out of the front door. Shes 80 odd, keeps herself to herself. No one has a key.

On investigation the ball valve leaked, the overflow froze, the tank overflowed, the ceiling in the Bungalow collapsed into the front room.

It's still like that afaik. Not insured obviously as not inhabited.

A Croydonshire train station ramp. I'm walking on the left going up the cunting thing.

Shit loads of people walking the other way, that's why I was hugging the left. Some cunt fogey gestures to me that I should walk on the right.

Had my NC headphones been off, I'd have told the cunt to fuck off...

I don't get the 'keep right' thing on escalators etc.  As we drive on the left it seems logical to apply that to walking too.

Loft tank has been removed so it’s all off mains pressure now which is shockingly bad

ive managed to improve it a fair bit by turning the stop cock fully on. Which has made it better

i think the issue is the boiler is too far from the shower, it’s distance causing the wait to heat up

just doesn’t seem to get all that hot, but it’s acceptable enough now and just one of those things

I would have thought the hot water alone would be too hot for a shower without at least some cold mixed in, unless you like super hot showers. My Mrs likes hers hotter than me, but she doesn't have it on max - and that's from a hot cylinder.

I had a similar issue in a rental fitted with a gas combi; there was about a 15m run of pipe between the boiler (installed on the ground floor) and the bathroom taps (at the back of the first floor outshot - so pipes went all the way up two floors into the attic, then right across the width of the house, then all the way out to the very back of the house and down into the bathroom).

It just meant there were always a few litres of cold water sitting in the pipes which had to flow through before any heated water would appear at the tap. It took even longer to arrive because the taps were modernish aerating ones designed to cut down on water consumption. So I basically just washed my hands in cold water all the time as I was too impatient to wait for it to go warm.

Very tiresome, and not much we could do about it. Hopefully you've adjusted it to be a bit better, and you'll get used to it!

Mine is like that.  I have an electric shower but contemplating one run from the (new) combi when it eventually fails.

Why not walk on the perfectly good pavement on the other side of the road? At least he'd be facing on coming traffic. Arsehole.

It will be very interesting to see how bills compare

i used to just use the heat in the cylinder generated from the central heating being on, and if the immersion was on 20 mins would do nicely for a shower

ive got a hunch they’ll be increased

time will tell

i love absolutely stinking hot baths and showers personally, it has to be almost scalding

Last week, 5 working days ago, online booked 2 new tyres for fitting today at midday with nation tyres ( halfords owned I believe ) I turn up 15 mins early and hand over keys, 30 mins later to be told sorry we do not have your tyres in stock, computer says yes but physical check says no. " we will contact you when they are in stock" What a waste of 2 hrs of my life.

Why these days do you have to order online for best price, physically turning up in shop and checking if they have stuff in stock and asking price costs more,   just why ?

Halfords / national tyres computer system shame on you.

MK2 son wanted 2 235/50x17's for the ex @MVX11VJag, was going to get partworns but apparently they're an unusual size.

Our local one man band tyre place, who usually has everything, said he could source 2 new ones, but they'd be £130, and take a couple of days.

Next day hes on the phone, got them in, when do you want them fitted?

Service like that, I don't bother with the nationals
