The grumpy thread

Dad is still in  hospital and it's so frustrating, a lot of waiting and then to know that this is going to happen then more waiting then for it to be changed to something else then more waiting then having that changed also. The only positive thing is that they don't think it's necessary to cut his leg open, but that can also change again.

And I still have a toothache and the earliest appointment with a new dentist is on Wednesday, so I have to try to survive until then.

I will be glad when this is over.

Bastid things were wound up good and proper!

Honestly thought the bolt had snapped when I cracked the first one loose. 🙈

I sold it to Chris and fitted two falkens? to the nearside front and rear (was meaning to put on same axle but "whatever"). The bolt were on originally pretty tight and the wheels were bonded to the hubs. I'd assume the drivers side were just as bad. Don't know if someone had the nearsides off and back on again after me though.

"Fuck off."

Also makes for a good ending.

Yes A v P does appear to be the answer. Had yet another round of "Do you see EVIL SHITFACE FROM HELL?" despite being told approx 7 times we haven't seen them in over 10 years.

I was quite restrained in my reply "We have told you that we do not meet John, Helen or any of their family. You can believe us or not, but please stop constantly asking the same thing.", but still acting like I've shat in her cereal. 30+ copies of "How much hatred goes on in families" on her bookface now.

Deffo going to end up on her own after alienating the entire population of earth.

This neighbourhood sound as if it should feature on Eastenders. It would improve ratings no end.

Second grump

Time for new glasses

Used a national high street chain as ever. I know I could have eliminated half this trouble by using an independent firm....

The optician herself has been there for years, she's brilliant, as are the other long standing members of staff

But they seem to have some new members of staff who are woefully badly trained.

Today was the fitting appointment, new member of staff hands me the sunglasses and says "you can't wear these to look at a computer or phone screen"

Why is that?

"Because of the polarising tint you opted for"

Well, great, I wasn't told about that before ordering them but it's not a big problem.

Then she gives me my long distance glasses, no issues with them other than a slight adjustment.

Then it's time to try on the sunglasses.

Immediately I noticed they are out of shape and don't fit on my face properly

I point this out to her, she says, "no, they're fine, your face is just wonky"

Excuse me?

"One ear is higher than the other one, that's how those glasses come"

No it isn't, they weren't like that when I tried them on.

I place them down on the desk, they are bent, and completely out of shape. They're only a plastic frame, so this is not much of a surprise.

I ask her to straighten them

"We can do that but sometimes people think they need to sit straight on the desk but it ends up being worse on their face, I can adjust it at your risk"

What?

I've literally never had any of this trouble before, they weren't bent when I chose them, so they need straightening. Nothing is at my risk, you're giving me defective glasses, they need to sit straight! 🤔

The optician herself told me that my old glasses could worsen my astigmatism as they were broken and not sitting straight...

She trots off to the machine, straightens them, and hands them back. Much better, I can feel they are straight on my face, look in the mirror, they're fine.

She pipes up "well now you've asked me to do that, they're not straight on your face because your eyebrows are different heights and so are your ears"

What the actual fuck? Who speaks to a customer like that 😭🤣

I've got my glasses, they're fine now, I'm happy, but she needs some serious training or put on a non-customer facing role...

she makes you sound like Egor! I’ve only needed short distance glasses in the last few years, went to the local recommended shop and have been happy. I’ve now had four pairs and safety glasses for work. None have needed adjusting.

I was strimming the garden on sunday and I nailed a sun ripened cat shit. It nearly made me sick, but luckily none* went on me, I checked!

About 20 minutes later I wiped the sweat off my brow. Not long after I could smell shit again, big time.

I'd have paid £43.99 (or more) for it to be Graphite grease smeared all over my forehead and nose.

Shit (literally) that’s not good, although you’ll need to dig deeper as that little tub of Graphite Grease is £140

Sitting and waiting for to go to the dentist later I'm dreading this I need several teeth pulled to fix this so I hope the dentist will agree to this and get it done today.

Dad is still in hospital, they have found out that the infection is in the knee, they have drained the leg of fluid as it was very swollen and operated on him to remove inflammation in the knee. They still don't know what caused this. And it happened suddenly without any warning, something that is terrifying.

This really makes me appreciate Romanian health system. I stepped on a nail while cutting the grass behind the house, and it vent about 3-4 centimeters in. A proper rusty one. So I hopped in the car and drove myself to the county hospital, where I went trough patient triage. It's been just a bit more than an hour door to door visit, and this was in a poor county.

While sitting in the waiting room I noticed a poster on the wall, defining the maximum waiting times: for a red code - 0 minutes. For a yellow code - 15 minutes. For a green code - up to an hour. For blue code - maximum of two hours wait. And for white code (I guess anything minor) the maximum wait time is 4 hours.

We had max 4 hours, then we voted in Tory governments for 15 years and now as above it can be 12, people are being treated in corridors or held in ambulances outside for hours meaning it takes hours to even get an ambulance.. anyway don't get me started.

It's even worse with mental health provision.  Even ten years ago when I used to work in that field, the local crisis team weren't interested, so the Police had to turn up.  We had one individual threatening suicide (equipped with the means) that we had to hold up in our offices for four hours before anybody would even consider seeing them from the crisis team - and only then because we sent through numerous faxes which they couldn't refute the validity of.  The crisis team were three minutes away on foot.

Yes, they would only accept a fax.  Emails weren't good enough.  And we knew them better than most as we were a local mental health services provider.  Goodness knows what a regular member of the public would have experienced.

The Police were generally very good but we hated having to call them because responding to a crisis really shouldn't have landed in their laps.

And that was a decade ago before it got really bad.

Where are the on board train personnel when the train gets busy? On my way to that London in 1st class (cos on expenses). Only halfway there this section is almost full of foreign tourists, one of whom is snoring loudly behind me.

I bet the time clock doesn’t actually start until those in ambulances actually enter the hospital.

Correct, it's not unusual for ambulance staff to start there shift relieving another crew with a patient at the hospital door, then not moving for their entire shift.

Could have been worse, something like a stone. I dress up with visa and specialist working bib thing. No damage to me because  of them. Have broken a side window on the estate car through.

As mentioned the other day I swapped my winter wheels over to the summers at the weekend, when doing it I noticed a nail in the shoulder of one of the winter tyres. Doing a few errands yesterday I was cruising down the A50 when I felt and heard the unmistakable sound of a flat tyre, FFS, yep one of the summers had a nail in the shoulder too. I was only about a mile away from an emergency layby so pulled over and popped the spare on.

While doing this with trucks driving what felt like inches away from me the bolt that holds the spare wheel cradle up decided to snap, oh great what a cunt. Fortunately I keep a breaker bar in the van and managed to lever the cradle over and get the spare down.

Spare wheel of shame.

Gaffer tape holding the spare wheel cradle back up.

20210929_180059.thumb.jpg.edd37ee7239931bbd8b8a698918ec9a7.jpg

I wonder if its a coincidence getting two nail punctures, both in the sidewall, in quick succession or have I upset somebody?
