The grumpy thread

Son has an outing tomorrow with his College course, something about a classic car auction "but there's literally nothing good and they're not even having the auction tomorrow so he doesn't even know why they are going anyway😠"

...on further investigation what he has tomorrow is an all expenses paid trip to the NEC for the Practical Classics restoration show. I've just been drooling over the exhibitors list, I'd love to go but I'm at work all weekend, broke, and nowhere near Birmingham. He however "doesn't really feel very well", is as grumpy as only a 17 year old can be and probably won't go because it involves getting up early and leaving his room for an extended period of time.

just.......🤦‍♂️

Entitled pricks like this.... Where are the "tyre extinguishers" when you need them!?

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/dad-fuming-after-stranger-parks-23397292

If it was my property, it would have been very hard to stop me drilling a rusty screw into the shoulder of two opposite tyres!! (being a 4x4 its best to change tyres in pairs)

100% that'll have been left there by one of the meet and greet companies that just dump them where they can , only a skinny crack head could get out of it parked there

Obviously vandalism on the car would be wrong, but is it illegal to block it in? And then just not answer the door. You'd have to let it out eventually, but the owner would be seriously inconvenienced if he got back at 2 in the afternoon and couldn't get his car out  for a couple of days. The repercussions might discourage whoever parked there from repeating his actions.

Put scaffolding around it. And over it. And under it.

Set @cort1977Mustang on fire like an amateur and roasted my hand putting it out.

Had the carpet and rear quarter trim all pulled back to fix a little hole I found on the rear of the sill when painting the underside and it must have fell back while I was welding, the primer I had painted on the inside of the sill caught fire and got the carpet and rear quarter trim, seconds it took for me to put it out and this was the damage.

Could have been catastrophic if I didn't have a fire extinguisher on my welding trolley.

Fucked my hand up in the process

First time I've ever set a car on fire in 20+ years of welding, 2 jobs and a newborn who's up all night has burnt me out and nearly burnt Cort's Mustang out 😂

All parts have been replaced already from the USA but I'll never weld a car with the interior in again even if it's pulled back like it was.

We have people during the school run parking on our drive at least three or four times a year.

Blocking them in is an offence as it counts as blocking access to a public highway.  Them parking on your property however isn't!

Their excuse every time?  "There's nowhere else to park."

Yeah...aside from the completely empty road 50 metres away.  That would have meant that their little angels would have to walk more than ten pages from the school gates though, can't have that.  The idea that they've done something wrong seems to be just completely alien to them.  We have had them park entirely on the front lawn too, and I'm not even kidding!

If we stay here long enough I'm really looking forward to the point that we can fence and gate off the frontage.

Had to glue something today and since it is cold I applied heat to the glue which released chemicals that gave me watery eyes but worst of all a terrible headache and nausea that does not go away.

Sorry to hear that @Dyslexic Viking. In the UK we have a phone service called NHS Direct that we can phone in such circumstances to ask whether we should seek medical attention. Is there anybody you could ask if there's anything you should be doing? As a last resort maybe email the manufacturers and explain what's happened.

Hope you feel better soon but if your symptoms do persist get checked out.

I was concerned so did some googling and from what I can tell if it was super glue it's an irritant (hence the watering eyes and headache) but not toxic so you should be all right soon - if you haven't already go outside and get some fresh air!

Not a grump, more of a sad for the chap

Out today and spotted an older gent in a pogweasel red Mercedes 190, F reg. Sadly he had rear ended another car and the Merc looks a write off.

The chap seemed uninjured but appeared more upset than anything

Even more so, having looked it up, it's a 1 owner car. So he's had it since 1988

Poor guy ☹️

Thanks. If this does not get better, then I have to do something. Has been going on for 4 hours now.

And can can not think of anyone I can ask and does not get better that it is the weekend. The only option I have if I do not get better is to go to what we call Legevakt but it is over 1 hour away and there are always a few hours to wait in line so want to avoid it

Ask at a local pharmacy.

Surprising how knowledgeable pharmacists are.

An update. I have started to feel better and have managed to eat. Good this as I was very bad for a while so I will not do this again.

Slightly grump ref council.

So we *all thought that we only needed to do the back half of the roof.

Had to negotiate with the people that own the track at the back as we have no right of access and the Scaffolders were able to chuck poles over the fence. Once up top it was clear we needed to do the front half, so a price was agree. For the Scaffolders and roofer to put scaffold up front.

They applied for a permit, last week as they need to put it on the pavement.

They are still waiting but have been.told they can.only put it up on a Sunday.  If they don't get the permit tomorrow, they will loose a week roofer will do everuthing he can do, and then he will go onto another job. Leaving ours 3/4 done.

Grrrrrrr.

Like you I am having work done to my roof. I am doing it myself. First I purchased a scaffolding tower from a DIY store here in Span. That turned out to be very weak and the height on the webpage was not as sold. So it would not be tall enough.  Ended up hiring some scaffolding.  Here is the roofing issue I am having to deal with. It is overgrown. More than twenty years of plant life on this roof. The scaffolding in the UK is to very different standards here.

Berlingo rear door handle broke , there's a rod that clips into a metal clip on the mechanism which is riveted in

Fuck up no 1

I ordered the wrong mechanism for £40 so I no longer have central locking on the rear door

Fuck up no 2

I found out after I'd fitted the new( wrong) £40 mechanism you can buy the clip for a couple of quid

Do people here get what I think is called restless leg? Constantly have to stretch my arms and legs or end up doing press ups in the middle of the night to get rid of this awful need to exert stress on my  muscles.

Its driving me fucking mad. From 8pm onwards every day I'm in agony having to contort myself into strange positions to get rid of it.

Whats the solution? Is there one? Is this just being old? It sucks.

I realise this isn't helping buts it's what immediately popped in to my head. Sorry, can't do proper links but if you're that fussed you'll be able to find it.

Also noticed while looking this up that HMHB have a song called National Shite Day. Just listened to it. Nigels lyrics really are quite inspired.

When did drivers get so shit / not give a fuck...

...a woman in a fiesta stopped dead in front of me when there was nothing on the roundabout

Exactly what I was thinking during one of my rare trips into civilisation today. Seen the complete lack of roundabout awareness you describe, but what took the biscuit was when both sides of the road had stationary traffic, and an ambulance was trying to make its way towards us. Everyone on the other side shuffled to one side, and the cars on my side pulled onto the verge to allow the ambulance, lights going, to come down the middle. Everyone that is, apart from the car directly in front of me who decided to pull around the car in front of him, and head directly for the ambulance! WTactualF?

I never ever these days trust anyone to stay in lane or be in the right lane at roundabouts. No one it seems notes they signs on approach , but then decided where to go once actually on the roundabout , normally at the point of exit.

As for close calls at two lanes where the car in the inside just straight lines it…

Try eating a banana before bed…. Theory is that increasing potassium levels can help with this

Annie Lennox was on 1992 TOTP last night (BBC4 shows it every Friday) and I immediately had to listen to "Paintball's Coming Home"

I've seen them follow an ambulance on a busy motorway like it's a traffic snowplough clearing a route just for them

The council does make a crap job of marking lanes out though , there a new dual carriageway over the brow of a hill is the roundabout , left lane is left turn only but the sign is only on the brow of the hill , it should be marked on the road that it's left turn only for at least 400m before the brow so drivers that don't read signs don't suddenly change lanes when they realise they're in the wrong lane

J8 on the M62 is awful , westbound left lane goes to IKEA only  but loads go straight on because the road isn't marked at the junction just before it, coming from the other direction it's left lane  for IKEA so there's a queue , right Lance is for the omega park but at weekends it's quiet so people get in the wrong lane then cut across to go straight on

It's a very badly laid out junction

I'm starting to wish they could use distraction flares like low level attack aircraft.

A local roundabout got an extra lane recently and the signs and arrows all show left lane for left only, right lane for ahead and right (against highway code guidance) but only on one leg of the roundabout.

So I approach in the right lane to go straight over (2nd exit) and almost every day someone pulls out of the 1st junction infront of me because they expect I am turning right.

I don't doubt that all call me a twat, but I didn't make the stupid rule.
