The grumpy thread

The Junkwoman has fallen ill with the same. Despite her usually rather robust immune system, she has been labouring on this for a similar amount of time now.

Lack of stepdaughter forces Junkdaughters to look after housework, yielding indifferent results.

Stepdaughter isn't much better. 10 minutes ago I asked her to unload the dishwasher, she said she'd be down shortly. Had to make an emergency khasi visit, stepdaughter conveniently "has had to go out" while I was trying not to die in the Elvis style and tells me this by text. I've managed to empty and reload it, but it has knackered me. Grrrr.

If I do drop down dead one day the girls will just live in a sea of dirty* clothes and dishes.

*either not put away after being washed & dried and end up on the floor, or mixed with dirty clothes, or worn for 5 nanoseconds while assembling an outfit, then thrown in laundry basket not put back in wardrobe/drawers

I 100% agree with whatever the point is :)

My mate in the USA has "Blue X5" on his ....Blue X5 - fine but why?

I always smile when I see an X5 plate on a Kia Sportage or an M3 or M5 plate on a 1-Series :)

I think the T5 thing is to show they are in the gang/scene - being "different" by being the same.

I think I'd rather have "Red X6" on a Blue X5, just in case I ever do anything illegal and need to confuse the cops.

"We're looking for a Blue X5, Red X6"

"Two cars?"

"No, just one"

"Hhhhhhhhh"

Sadly work related -  I'm now with a client in the high finance world. All seems very professional to external clients paying through the nose for everything they do. Normal so far.

I need a certain software and client running for even the most basic of my job roles. I've been with this place for 2+mths now - and this application has worked for the grand fucking total of 36hrs!

Email received - this work ticket has now been routed back to you! WTAF!!!! I wrote exactly what i thought of this shower of shit in an email - then edited out the swearing - then re-edited to make it legible again. fired off and escalated………

Simple enough software and client - 15 times with various 'support' teams. can I have admin rights to sort this shit out myself - not a fucking chance. That request is now with VP level! My boss just had a laugh as the block on my Admin rights is not knowing if I would know what i was dong if given 'the power'. I pointed out to all and sundry that their specialists obviously don't have a fucking clue and a trained proboscis monkey would've managed the basic intial task in the time taken so far...….. bunch of useless shirking cunts - the lot of them - fuck this - going home (but they'll still be billed for it that's for fucking sure!)

Sorry - but it's just fucking stupid now………..

Bollocks. Parking ticket.

Decided to have a lie in, and as I only had meetings in the afternoon at work I snoozed whilst the traffic cleared, got on the road about 9am and had a lovely stress-free journey down instead of dealing with the M40/M4 at 8.30am. Except the carpark was full.

So I saw a whole row of cars parked just outside the carpark on some really old, crusty double yellows. I figured I'd leave it there for an hour until some spaces became available, and move it. WCPGW? Beats using the overflow which is actually three miles away and probably also full but no way of knowing until you get there, by which time you're late thanks to Slough traffic.

The traffic warden that appeared less than 20 minutes after I left the car had a field day, did the whole row.

Can't argue it, bang to rights, £35 down the drain.

crusty double yellows you say? that doesn't sound like they conform to the guidlines then- research and appeal!

If one can get off coz the double yellows are old and worn out it should work the other way around too and the fine should be bigger if your car is dirty or badly painted.

If you knowingly park illegally and get a ticket just suck it up and pay the fine.

Absolutely nothing illegal about my parking

So I understand, it was more to do with earlier talk of crusty yellow lines etc.

Don't forget with double yellows, it's not just the road but also the footpath that's covered. And don't think that just getting your wheels inside the lines gets you safe. The law says "any part of the vehicle, OR load...". Ask me how I know...

Local newspapers. All clickbait with no journalistic quality - in fact some of them are like uni rag mags without the quality.

Going by train to and from the NEC today.  I used to enjoy travelling by train, nowadays I hate it.

They're crusty but they're not difficult to see. I parked there knowing it was double yellows, intending to move my car shortly, thinking that because everyone else does it every day it would be fine. I'm not gonna even try and contest it.

Wasn't it Scary on here who had months of arguing about a genuine case of loading a guitar speaker whilst parked on DYLs? And that's a proper case of should be exempt. Not "Can't be arsed to drive any further I'll just leave it here" like muggins here.

I think the only irritating this is my colleague parked about 1/4 mile away, on double yellows, but on a road that runs off the one I was on. He didn't get a ticket. And he's refused to go halves on mine, the bastard.

Me too, onlymticket I have ever had was the bumper on my Orion sticking over the yellows. I disputed it as there was no more than 6” overhang on a bad day, but 1” is too much by law. The annoying thing was that was space but I didn’t want to make life hard for car in front to get out.

Which shows we have some pretty lenient traffic wardens here.

I parked in a 1hr bay at the side of the road, came back "about" an hour later and there's a warden hovering. Made some joke about "oooh just in time" and he just replied that it was the first lap he'd done so no rush. He then pointed to a transit with the back tyre on the end of the bay so a good 18" overhanging the yellow line. "I'm hoping he comes and moves it soon, the next guy comes on shift in half an hour and he's the kind that will ticket that"

Just get a set of plates made up with his number on. Fit to your car and leave it on the double yellows outside work.....

Daughter has just had her car written off on a roundabout.  Other driver's fault and has admitted it to police and her insurance company.  They won't be happy about it but is on public record now

Daughter's car was up for MOT on Saturday.  She gets a hire car and some cash to put toward a replacement.

Always stressful but as long she is ok then all’s as good as it could be.

The guy who regularly does around our doctors is great, he knows that parking is a nightmare and the bit opposite doesn’t cause any problems so will turn a blind eye as long as you are polite.

Thanks.

She is pretty cool about it.

As said it is personal injuries that are the devil, tin is replaceable and if no hire car she can nick one from work.

Flickr has pissed me off, over 10 years worth of uploads, somewhere in the region of over 30000 images have now been taken away from me unless I pay for a monthly subscription, It feels like I'm being blackmailed by them to sign up to their services now. Why should I pay when Flickr is making money from my images from the hits they must give them?.

They did give plenty of warning that they were though to be fair. Unlike Photofuckit who suddenly threw a paywall up one day.

They haven't "taken" them away (yet). They'll start doing that from the start of Feb. Plenty of time and warning given to download them if you're not willing to fork out. You've got until Feb 5th before they start actively nuking the oldest stuff.

How much storage space in terms of TB/GB are you using? Their subscription rates are very reasonable in the grand scheme of things. I had a been a Pro subscriber for a few years for before they (Yahoo!) went bloody silly offering 1TB free - cost 'em money cos I didn't need Pro no more! Also you don't have to pay monthly, it can be an annual/biannual thing too IIRC.

Considering the amount of copyright material uploaded you shouldn't complain too much! ;)

Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but just trying to put some perspective on it.

Fair enough, just frustrating as i still use it to upload photos from, amazingly though someone has been massively kind enough to donate me a years subscription! I haven't a clue who's done it but if it's anyone on here then thank you so much! It's really genuinely appreciated. :)

Raging wisdom tooth pain.

I wouldn't mind but I'm not even wise. (If I was I would probably go to a dentist).

Posted

I got an infection in one of my non-erupted Wisdom teeth 18 years ago. Actually got so bad I saw a dentist. Antibiotics cleared it up. He told me I'd better have them out as they would only get infected again. I've spent 18 years happily proving him wrong.
