Arsehole chancer breakers, £60 for a switch and spring sir? How about fuck off. Where they do even make up these prices? Volvo want less for them brand new.

Long ago a scrapyard in Sunderland wanted to charge me £180 + VAT for a second hand Citroen GS driveshaft.

They probably still have it. Could have had a brand new one, fitted, for that.

And there's no VAT on second hand goods, or wasn't then anyway.

It’s really only making me grumpy as I didn’t cycle in as it was pissing down with rain and blowing 40mph wind this morning. More often than not now, I’m faster on my bike over the 7.5miles than the car.

I cycled into work today. My god was it hard work! A fight to get to 32kph, then having a strong gust of wind quickly deaccelerating me to 20kph. So then another hard push to try and get up to any decent momentum again.

We were watching the big tower cranes in the building site swaying around. Certainly not a job I'd want to do up there.

Got some Christmas parties coming up so needed to buy a shirt. Usually wear polo shirts but wanted something a bit smarter. What I want is a proper collar, short sleeves, and a subtle stripe pattern in a dark colour that won’t show up the gravy stains.

Been round York Outlet, Meadowhell and the local shopping centre and they have nothing unless I want long sleeves and to look like either a lumberjack or James May.

Came home and ordered one online. Why didn’t I do that in the first bloody place.

I have a Christmas party coming up. Casual smart, no tie! I’m only going as I think Eddie Jones will be there - he moved into the old gardener’s cottage in the park this year

I thought they could only charge VAT if they are registered with Her Majesty's Mafia, remove the part for you (i.e. provide a service), the part is tested and choose an appropriate VAT scheme for second hand goods, at most it is 16.7% on top of cost for used goods.

Or £153.85 down and £153.85 x 23 months. A bit more expensive (like a tenner a month) but less down could be affordable to more. Iirc the PH thread said it's 3.8p per mile over allowance. So if you do 12k p/a instead of 8k, it works out an extra £12 per month over the period. I still wager that it's far cheaper than I'm paying on my moderns.

However it does mean that you have to drive a 115bhp car. Not a problem to some of course, but I'd like a car with a bit more poke.

I suspect VAG need to get their Octavia factory capacity used up and they must have a warehouse load of 1.0TSI parts or something.

Seems like it, looking round at VAG deals it seems like you can have anything you like as long as it has the 1.0 TSI lump. I’d sooner a more ballsy diesel model, but if it is anything like the 1.0 ford ecoboost model it will no doubt be much better than you might think

And then explode into flames

You are probably right.

They did none of that and I'm sure at the time there was no VAT on used parts.  1983-ish.

I signed up to a mega (no really it was good) Black Friday deal for the new iPhone. I know it’s probably the antithesis of autoshite but I am a bonafide apple worshipper so tough.

I am reasonably certain that it said “order in the next 2h 47m for next day delivery” when I pulled the trigger, now I’m here nearly 6 days later and the order status is still “waiting for stock”

Ffs if you don’t have it then don’t fucking say that you have.

I should have held my grump about this for one more day, either that or “affordable mobiles” are AS subscribers and it bumped my order to the top of their priority list

Anyway it’s getting delivered tomorrow morning, excited!

The clueless, penniless idot ratio is on the rise. I don't know how many 'experts' have messaged recently with wonderful insights in to stuff I'm selling, not the least of which was some two bob bell end telling me my Mondeo is 'Cat' registered. £3 wasted on a text to prove to prove him wrong, and that's another idiot blocked.

Not so much grumpy more upsetting. Wife has been ill last week with severe migraine and had a couple days off work. On Monday she had to park her bus up and come home due to blurred vision and thumping headaches. Gone to doctors this morning for another checkup of her blood pressure which is still through the roof. Doctors admitted her straight to hospital with suspected brain bleed.

Sorry to hear this, hope she is ok and on the mend soon.

My wife and youngest son met him this year as the youngest came top of his year at the Uni that he's Chancellor of.

I didn't go, as I'm not a great fan of the royal family or the Uni management, but they said he was really nice - I suppose that he has a lot of practice.

(It was Prince Edward not Eddie Jones  they met by the way)

I wouldn’t waste my time raising the very valid points you mention with them. For some reason scrapyards will cut their nose off to spite their face with things sometimes.

Who is Eddie Jones?

Bloke with a silly name? I don't follow sport.

No it's just that everyone thinks he's great when he starts a job,and then fall out of love with him later.

Didn't he dig up the remains of Trevor Jordache?

Christ, that's going back some!

Stomach flu.

It's been coming out both ends all morning and I think I might be able to keep this cup of juice down now. Maybe.

Through experience asking for their VAT number tends to get you banned from their yard. The ones around here pay peanuts for cars but want an arm and a leg if you event take it off the car yourself.

After 12 days of rain, this morning the sun came out. Few jobs to do in preparation of a day working on the Disco tomorrow, so very pleasant. This afternoon was to wash and photograph a couple of vehicles I am going to be selling, and this evening listing them online.

Finished the little jobs, and come in for a cup of tea. Of course it is now pissing down so no photos today.

Bastards.

Girlfriend_70s is the same way...

About an hour ago she managed to keep down some water. Perhaps the Rowan Tree poisoned you both?
