Had some work done on the boiler week before last. Got the invoice via email last week while We were in York. Today I thought I'd pay it via a bank transfer using online banking. Never had it before so I thought it would save me a walk. Make use of modern technology you know.

Signed up, entered card details, account details and any other relevant information. Great stuff.

We'll send you a membership number in the post in the next 5 days.

You fucking what? So I have to wait 5 days to use it? I may as well have walked in to town to pay the pissing thing, nice one Barclays.

I take your point but It’s just part of the security process. Having the stuff sent to the address registered to the account means access to the account is less likely to be gained by crims.

Yes, and I also get that. Unfortunately it means they'll be sending stuff out pointlessly as I'll more than likely never use it as I'll have to walk in to town tomorrow to pay the bill. So I've spent 10 minutes floating my financial and private data across the internet for no reason.

Wonder if you could set it up in the branch without waiting for stuff to be sent out? That'd be best of both worlds really.

I'm in and around these types of systems...…. the initial setup is your banks choice for a OTP (one time password) - that you'll enter and create what will become a secure digital wallet. Once done - you'll be able to sign online without further issue. generate a scan code etc.. and have that done at a paypoint or till and it's done. Once setup - it's a piece of piss……… phone goes missing, call 'em - suspended…. phone found - call 'em - back online in 5mins - instead of waiting a new card...….

Initial setup is more controlled - so the rest of the lifespan is a lot easier………..

And does your missus know you refer to her as the old boiler? - Very Les Dawson :-D

Nope. It's a different department & the branch can't generate the details that are posted out to you.

Along similar lines - my new business bank account online signup (Metro bank) process was useless.

A long webform to complete - at which point it rejects my choice of password and removes all the stuff I filled in.

After a couple of goes at that I call up "ah yes - has your chosen password got special characters in?" - yep, like most of my passwords.

Would it fucking kill them to mention, along with the other password requirements, the fact that special characters are NOT allowed - rather unusually for passwords?

Didn't get the job I interviewed for last Wednesday, but have been put on a 6-month reserve list. Yeah, whatever.

Then on the radio earlier they were talking about an 8 year old kid in America who has made over 22 million dollars in the past year in Youtube revenue from videos of him reviewing toys.

FUCK OFF.

Don’t worry about it - even if you do end up earning decent coin you’ll just end up driving a fucking brown X5

Outfox the market and their current issues! I'm one of them!

Direct debit cancelled and a crawling back to British gas has occurred!

Those the guys from Dragons Den? What’s the problem?

E.ON sent me a letter the other day saying they’re being forced by ofgem to charge me LESS - still in shock.

Bloody couriers. I ordered a suspension strut for the Mazda yesterday at 3.45 pm, from a place 300km away. Fastway delivered it at 7.50am, I made the bastard wait at the door while I got out of bed and signed for it. This had to go in this thread because couriers.

I've had a similar missive from my supplier.  Very close and careful reading suggests that standing charges are not covered and, despite the headline, I will end up paying more!

Time to switch.  Again.

I have approx 0% doubt I could be paying less but I’m moving soon and my letting agent has a(n illegal) clause telling me not to switch supplier

Brother managed to get a nail square in the middle of his new tyre. Changed it out for a spare in the freezing cold.

On a lighter note the new tyre was still inflated, it was an original one with the Camry, all the lifting and bolt tensioning gear was present and the nail hole is repairable. Thank goodness for that.

I've had 17 emails in 2 weeks with various stuff, but within those, in the last week, 4 direct debit changes, going from the £30 it originally was to £70, then down to £50 (which the last bill was) and then this morning £115! I cancelled the direct debit earlier and made a switch.

The pain in the arse is, when I switched to them they had the kwh to the digit of our use for the 12 preceding months from the csv download from our old smart meter, and gave me the £30 price! Ace! Except our usage from them has been way over that, and when I logged on to have a nosey a month or so ago, we are in debt to £160... None of the meter readings I've provided have been entered into the account either...

I'm not alone! https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5924617

I'm hoping the 'debt' doesn't stop the switch, if it does I'll have to pay it, if it doesn't then frankly it can sit there and not be fucking paid! Monzo alerts me to new dd setups too so they can be cancelled within seconds.

At least British gas fleece me to the same amount every month reliably!

Have you thought about reviewing the toys on youtubes that he has reviewed? I'd watch it.

That’s really quite gutting. I thought they would go far.

I can tell you a thing or two about bill surprises - didn’t bother reading my meter for a year because it’s in a plant cupboard I need to get permission to go into (block of flats) - currently owe E.ON about four hundred bastarding pounds. My fault rather than theirs. They read the meter about 0.5 times a year though. Endless letters encouraging me to switch to smart meters (it’s not my call, I don’t own the flat and neither do the vast majority of the other 26 in the same plant room) might have been sensible.

British Gas I actually quite like even though it’s utterly unfashionable to admit it - they always billed me relatively accurately and were nice to deal with.

I had major issues with British Gas, though they were slightly less inept than Utilities Warehouse. Slow as opposed to incompetent.

Now with Bulb. They just work. No fuss.

I check every year and keep sticking with Ovo. Recommend.
