vintage low voltage transistorised lights like this, often came with endura T5 tubes made at Shipley in the UK (Company/Factory later taken over by Sylvania in the late 70s), and they are quite rare today, so I would be more then happy to give few quid so you can buy modern replacement tubes for them so I can add the vintage tubes to my collection :) 

 

also because, as fun as the artwork is, sadly a lot of these 12V Caravan lights, are utter shit, and have really awful drivers that just munch tubes (esp when the battery voltage gets a bit low), so I would like to save any vintage tubes from that fate!

so its not often I say this, but you may genuinely be better off with some warm white LED alternatives if these turn out to be such tube munchers

a quick and dirty way to check for such, is hook one up to a suitable 12V DC source and measure how many amps it draws and volts multiplied by amps gives you your total wattage :) 

and if its bellow the rated wattage of the tube, then it will munch the tube

The way you made that request, makes it sound a bit seedy and a bit like you are asking for feet photos.

Or maybe it is just my perverted mind.

Talking of feet photos did you see @dollywobblerbare feet in his Alpine video, plus from some angles whilst driving he looked naked 🥺

It's the best way to get a feel for a car...

LBF - I only paid a quid each for the lamps, and was more interested in the boxes than the lamps themselves. We're preferring rechargeable LED lamps for lighting to be honest. You'd be welcome to the lamps if we can get them to you, before they disappear into the abyss that is my storage unit.

Took deposits for the good Oltcit and Fox last night. Downsizing is actually happening!

Naturally mixed emotions, but in truth, I had far too many cars, most of which were going nowhere. Now I can focus on core fleet members, especially the 2CV (needs an engine rebuild) and Invacar (total sympathetic restoration).

Burnt Oltcit will be picked over for spares by the owner of the good one, but is then FOC to anyone who can make use of it.

In other news, hoping to finally gave the Charade up and driving today. It has been far too long - rather indicative of how little tinkering time I have these days.

So that leaves 7 + 'Bob' with Charade and Berlingo as this winter's hacks.

Sounds manageable, just disable eBay for six months!

Yeah, though I wonder about moving the GSA on as well. It doesn't really fit the fleet and I panic constantly about scratching it. Not rushing into that one, but something to consider next year.

Not finding it hard to avoid buying cars to be honest. Only one vehicular purchase this year ignoring the camper!

sad to see the Fox go! I remember you said you could not understand why that one was so popular

and I think it was because she was rescued much in the same way TWC was, here is this dilapidated abandoned and forgotten vehicle that no one cares about and then you worked tooth and nail to successfully get them back on the road

and I know I and other people love seeing that sort of thing :) so I think thats why people loved the Fox so much and are sad to see Fox go

but I am glad for your sake you have found a buyer and its a load off your shoulders!

 

and hopefully more money towards the rest of the fleet! a 720cc engine for Elly sounds like lots of fun! maybe you can swing a 762cc kit for TWC while your at it? :mrgreen:

I fear I've utterly missed the boat for an Ami 6 sadly. But I'm really looking forward to gaining some working space around the cars. It'll make a serious difference to have more room.

If you were a bit closer, you could put some miles on a race engine for us... 😉

The rear wiper works when you put the car into reverse and you have the front ones switched on. My 307SW, of a similar age  does not, but my previous car a Mk1 Mégane did.  If the wipers keep playing up have a look at the storks first. They are a known weakness on PSA vehicles.

The Osram light bulbs for me never lasted very long. I purchased several sets over the years. Now I just use normal halogen bulbs. Osram  are not cheap, but they do improve the illumination of the road.

Maybe use LED bulbs for better reverse illumination.

Videos for you.The procedures are the same for your car.

Same here. I stopped with the Night breakers as they've never lasted longer than a couple of months in my Volvos (DRL's obvs) and were too expensive to keep replacing. They made no difference at all to illumination in the old V50 which I think was more to do with the optics of the lights than the bulbs. The current XC70 still chews through most bulbs in about 12 months still so tend to opt for the long life varieties.

Yeah, got caught out by the Berlingo but I was actually right. Replacing the reverse light bulbs did stop the rear wiper coming on while going forwards. All very odd.

Think DW's Berlingo will be pre COM2000 and multiplex wiring, like a 405 etc.

I've had the 'lower' spec Osram Silverstars in a few cars, and they've lasted well for me.

your berlingo does not have a com2000

that came in the facelift

yours has the individual stalks on the older style unit

Surely you need to keep buying cars to keep your YouTube traffic flowing?  A Daewoo Leganza would be a decent addition to the fleet. Failing that a Xedos.

I'm curious about something and as I've had six cans of Stella tonight I'm going to ask anyway.

In classic car journalism, magazines usually put something safe like an MGB or MkII Jag on the cover because it attracts casual viewers. Does the same apply to the world of YouTube views and likes?  Did your video of the Jag S Type from the Jaguar heritage collection get more likes and comments than for example, your video featuring the two pot Visa? 

Would going down the clickbait avenue of "DID THIS CAR DESERVE TO FAIL?" and showing a blurred out thumbnail making a casual viewer click the link out of curiosity work?

What's the significance of YouTube comments? Why do so many content creators beg for viewers to write something in their comments?

And while I'm at it (can number seven currently being enjoyed) what about the shifting demographic of YouTube viewers? I know this is a bit of a vague analogy but hear me out on this. Radio 2 has decided to position itself to play more 90s music to cater for its new listeners meaning that as a 52 year old who's nearer Boot Hill than Grange Hill I've switched stations.  Does the same thing apply to what cars on your channel would get the most likes with a younger generation buying cars that they wanted when they were young? Do you think that a video of you reviewing something like a Saxo VTR would get more views than a 1981, four speed, carb fed, Escort XR3?

I reckon it’s difficult to know what will be popular. I went to watch the Vauxhall Senator video, and that had far more views than I would have guessed.

I'm an avid hub nut viewer, and I'm a similar age to Ian.

(I say that, I'm probably 10 years older but at an age now where 10 years doesn't sound like a lot!)

In order of preference I'd say:

1. Road Tests. Something obscure but I've at least heard of.

2. Show reports or scrapyard hunts.

3. Fettling/ fixing / failing videos.

The stuff involving camping trips I probably won't watch tbh. The mail bag videos didn't hold my interest much.

I wonder what everyone else thinks?

My order of preference varies a little, but mainly features the same ideas. 

I like seeing other people fettling with their cars and viewing road tests. The ones where you take us round the scrap yards is great too, especially when yous went trawling about looking for bits for the Berlingo.

But as Timewaster said, we're all a bit... unconventional... putting it mildly, so we're maybe not the best basis for demographics etc.

Because more comments = more engagement = more time on the platform = more eyeballs for advertisers = more money for Youtube (so they promote videos with more comments). It's why I try and stick an inane comment on smaller youtubers to help them out. (Sorry Kiltox/Vulg)

Can I just say that's a surprisingly coherent post for someone who has just drunk seven cans of Stella.  I would probably be typing with my face.

@warren t claim I’ve been subscribing to Ian since he was called ClassicHub because he did a review of the Vauxhall Victor FE. It was the only review at the time, I have a weird thing for Vauxhalls from the 60s and 70s, and I liked a few other of his videos so I subscribed and a few years ago I became (and still am) a Patron.

As with any YT channel I watch and/or subscribe to, I’ll watch the channel’s videos if the subject matter interests me. 
 

One thing I wouldn’t do it strive to get out a video as soon as you’ve finished filming it. Many YT channels thrive on one or two really good videos per week. I think this is something for once you get your play button, which I don’t think will be too long.

Camping videos were a welcome addition but it’s a subject where I’d prefer a feature length review at the end of the Bob season, mainly because I’m not a fan of caravans, trail-a-tents and folders. Full campsite reviews would be excellent content for HubNotes or Miss Hubnut IMO because Mrs D and myself (and I’m sure many others) want a campervan at some point.

My video subject preferences are:

1. Car reviews
2. Tinkering/fleet updates
3. Kolekshun Kaypers
4. Camping
5. Event reports
6. Vlogs

2. Collection capers/tinkering (I like to live vicariously, and knowing what living with a Diesel Vauxhall Omega without buying one is just right)

That said, I still watch just about everything. I enjoy the content and it still has the not overly produced 😮 face rubbish that so many put on thumbnails with I BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST DE TOMASO PANTERA title.

 

I also think thinning the herd is a good plan. I found keeping three cars taxed, insured and in okay fettle enough. Then driving them even more. When I had to rent a lockup garage in addition to my garage I thought I was going too far. Not very AS, I admit.
