I'm pretty sure this is Iveco Massif ?

You are right. My auto correct turned it to massive and I just chopped the e off. Which is wrong. Will correct imminently.

Genuine hats off to Iv*co. It takes a special kind of company to make a Land Rover that's even less reliable.

Have we had this slightly scruffy pop-up-headlight 323?

A mate of mine had a rascal pickup with a hayabusa engine. Mental.

If I sold everything I owned, used all my money and chopped in the rest of my postgrad loan I could juuuuuuuuussssst afford to buy and put fuel in this. I haven't done this because I really don't like the wheels and I would have to resort to prostitiution to buy replacements.

I have a cabrio one of these.

In its defence it made 180k miles but then started hugely playing up with cooling issues ( although in truth the cooling system always seemed to need attention on it). Had a metal waterpump and so on, that had gone once already.

Had the head done and it drove home OK in the cold on the motorway but the next day I took it out it started again. Plenty of research online certainly suggested this wasn't a one off occurrence. Tried to get another replacement but second hand they all seemed to be suffering the same fate "might be a water pump gone", bollox, it's cooked.

Gave up in the end and put a complete 325i M50 engine in it, the difference in performance being barely noticeable and in its defence the M50 did seem a much tougher motor, iron blocked.

Took me years to find out but watching an episode of "the garage" with Jock, he sussed the issue was that as it was all alloy, when it overheated, it expanded the threads in the bottom end and therefore when the head was removed, repaired and so on, putting it back was fine when cold but as soon as it warmed up the threads would go a bit slack and pull the head ever so slightly off the gasket. He increased the thread to M16 from M14 and problem solved.

I'll guarantee at some point with that engine you'll have a cooling issue or its already had one, it's an awful design of a system and they totally changed it in the later model which seems a lot better.

Sinking £7k into that? Fuck that. It doesn't even sound that good.

As for rust though I've never seen any major on mine or the one I broke to get the engine from, I think it's the e46 that rotted?

That would be outside my flat already if it wasn't so far away.

I imagine getting it transported up here from London would double the price. It's a fucking bargain at that price! Somebody GIB!

In my experience, E36s tend to break out in little cosmetic blisters that are generally not too bad to keep on top of.

I've never owned an E46 but I've also heard all the stories about them really rotting quite badly.

Are there any real listing on ebay anymore?  Everything is £1212 and a scam...
