Kiltox Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 How quickly do tragivarostars with no 2nd gear tend to lose the others too?
bunglebus Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Fiesta Mk1? All had discs. MK2 Escort 1100 had drums all round though.
Eddie Honda Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Reliant Robin. It's a car when I say it is.
Pillock Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 What sort of MPG should I expect from a 307 SW 2.0 110 HDi driving 60 miles each day at 60/65mph with the odd trip to the local shops a couple of times a week. I'm getting a measured 45mpg, I thought I would get more than this. I'm starting to think the DPF is blocked, I get no warning messages but when I read the codes with Peugeot Planet when I was sorting the ABS a while back it said the adblue pump was open circuit. Giving this I'm assuming it hasn't done a regen for a while, it also has quite severe engine braking when you lift off, would this suggest a blocked DPF?I struggled to get 45mpg out of a 90hp model.Does it have the panoramic roof? They're really heavy if so, it does impact economy.
NorfolkNWeigh Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I'm planning on buying some winter tyres, so you can all thank me when we get no snow in the South this year.My question is 2 or 4 ?What's the point in putting winter tyres on the back wheels of my V70? I'd actually relish the thought of a bit of oversteer after 6 months of boring girl wheel drive , it hasn't even got a handbrake. But seriously , as far as I can see just putting winters on the front will be enough .Any real suggestions as to why I should buy four welcome.
Supernaut Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 More knowledgeable members can feel free to shoot me down, but... I prefer putting 4 winter tyres on because winter tyres are a different compound of rubber which stays soft below 7 Celsius (so you should have them on by now!) whereas non-winter tyres go hard below 7 Celsius (thus less grippy).I personally do not like the idea of having different tyres with different reactions to low temperatures front and rear on a car. However, I've known plenty of people doing this and they haven't harmed any nuns or kittens, so... yeah. I don't really know what point I'm making any more. NorfolkNWeigh 1

Just on the front means you can move & stop better but still have to corner like you've got summer tyres on. NorfolkNWeigh 1
Mally Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Advice needed please.Tranny Van 2011, wipers have developed a mind of there own.Started with the frost maybe. When you switch ign off the wipers keep going for 4? sweeps then park around the middle of the screen, not always in the same place.Have checked t'internet and it seems the motor has a constant feed, broken by a plastic cam at park point.Am suspecting the plastic cam has moved position maybe? My first thought is to take the wiper blades off, let it cycle a few times and refit the blades. If that fails an Ebay motor is only £25, so worth a try maybe.Anything else I could try? Am useless with electrickery.Have read about GEM whoever she is, but that's probably well over my head. Will be trying to sort it on Monday if its not raining. Thanks folks. Cavcraft 1
Asimo Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Maybe something slipped on it's splines if the blades were frozen to the 'screen. I'd refit the blades and cross my fingers before trying anything else.
Talbot Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Can someone enlighten me as to what WBOD stands for?
Shandylegs Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Help required. I have a type 9 gearbox that's going to need bearings and a good check over. I've had a look on-line and don't fancy having a crack at it as it looks fiddly and requires specialist tools. Can anyone recommend someone local Sheffield / South Yorkshire? Thanks......

Des Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Could be worth gathering bearings for the gearbox beforehand, just to ensure against any no-name chocolate ones finding their way in.not so long ago I could strip a box, stuff the rough bearings and old seals in my pocket and take a 10 minute walk past an American car spares shop, turn right at the huge engineering machinery suppliers then left and onto the bearing specialist a few doors down from the vintage bike parts shop. Drop my handful of knackered bits on the counter and the old boy would fetch me new ones off the shelf. All gone now but don't be sad for me, these days I'm spoilt for choice in pretentious kitchens or vile sour coffee in a paper bucket and numerous fried mutant chicken money laundering establishments. danthecapriman Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Anyone offer help with an insurance issue? I changed my Transits insurance over to another company recently. Problem is the new insurer want me to give my proof of no claims discount (maximum) and my old insurer won't give me the proof!I've phoned and asked for it, they just keep saying 'yes we'll send it out' but it never arrives. I've also sent an email and got no response at all. I'm starting to get pissed off now as it's causing problems with my new insurance! Any suggestions?
danthecapriman Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Tell new insurers to call old ones? Will they do that?
Guest Hooli Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 That's worked for me in the past. danthecapriman 1
danthecapriman Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Cheers guys. I'll give the new insurer a ring tomorrow and see what they can do.It's ridiculous really, the old company I was with for years and then out of the blue they decided for reasons not explained to me they didn't want my custom anymore from my renewal date. And now seemingly since I'm no longer a customer of theirs they can't be arsed helping me by sending me my own no claims proof! Wankers! Shit customer service, yet from insurance companies you should expect no less I suppose.
Pillock Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I've never had to send NCB proof, just tell the new clowns who the old clowns were and they get it electronically.Dunno if it's a feature of MID, or whether they just have an email address for Doreen in the office who will look it up and send it back, but it works. danthecapriman 1

They're really heavy if so, it does impact economy.Yes it has the glass roof. I was thinking of splitting the dpf/cat and knocking out the cat and cleaning the dpf. Apparently just knocking the cat out doesn't upset the Ecu. Anyone heard the same/different?
Mally Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 https://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance/articles/get-proof-of-your-no-claims-discount/ May help. danthecapriman 1
danthecapriman Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Have you still got your old renewal offer? My new company accepted the old companies renewal offer (where it stated my NCD) as proof. Incidentally, the old company only recorded 9 years as their max NCD, so my last 3 years all said 9 years on them. I had copy's of all the old documents, and the new company accepted them and totted up to 12 years.I wasn't offered a renewal from the old place! They just sent a letter saying as of the 25 November your insurance is finished! No renewal offer, no explanation! No idea why!The old place didn't send the NCD amount on any paperwork at all oddly, though I was earning it year on year.

You'll have to pester the hell out of them to get the NCD confirmation. I have had to do this several times with certain insurers/brokers, as they generally do not want to do any paperwork that they don't need to (and of course, this isn't going to make them any money). Last place took seven phone calls, and in the end I stayed on the line and waited until I had the confirmation pdf attached to an email recieved in my mailbox before I would finish the call. In general, insurers are twats who just could not care less. danthecapriman 1

Rang them up and firmly (but not rudely) told them what I wanted, why and how they will be dealing with it.I made him email it across to me there and then before hanging up and hey presto I now have it! Funny old thing. Thanks everyone for the advice. catsinthewelder, DeeJay, Talbot and 1 other 4
