If you look at the Scorpio estate, mk2 and mk3 are the same at the back.

I gave the celica a bit of a polish with a pad on my drill. I only used some merr car polish that I had. It came up good so would like to do it with some compound. What am I looking for cos it's a bit confusing for me .

mer is fairly mild...do you want similar or more aggresive ?

farecla g3 is an aggressive one avail in halfords ..might need a follow up with something milder like autoglym super resin

use the least aggresive stuff that gets it done as theres only so much paint on there

Posted

I was thinking something just a bit more harsher than mer. It has come up well but it will come up a lot better,if you know what I mean.

Posted

well g3 is much more aggressive

is it beyond 2 or 3 applications of something mild then?

whatever you choose make sure you use a good wax or sealant to keep it from fading

You are probably right I shall get some more Polish and use that. I don't want to wreck the paintwork so am taking it easy. I shall get some autoglym polish and then use some wax. Thanks for the advice.

I think what Ireland and the UK got as the Granada MK3 was sold as the Scorpio everywhere else in Europe. Then when they developed it into its fisheye fronted replacement it was called Scorpio in all markets.

"...is the correct answer!"

Where does one buy motorcycle engine parts (I mean things like piston rings and bearing shells). All of the companies I've dealt with for car stuff don't seem to so bike engine parts and all the bike places I have encountered it seems to be ££££ (stupid stuff like £12 per big end for shells when I would expect more like £20 for a full set)...

An actual nursery or do the rozzers just look younger to you every day?

Never see any police so couldn't say, used to see them in the Chippy when it was a Police Station though.

We only have pretend bobbies now.

Above is true, but I do understand its Government cutbacks and not the police at fault.

There are 2 or 3 main pattern parts suppliers in the country Hi-Level Enterprises, Staniforths and Swen Europa.

2 of those have on line catalogues in PDF format not sure about Swen.

Bearing shells I'm not sure about, I can't remember seeing any pattern ones (or ever being asked for any either) so probably genuine only.

My insurance is limited to 8000 miles a year on a Pug van. Nearly all my mot's are recorded as miles although as its an import the odometer is in kilometres. How does that work with the insurance company ?

In the event of a claim, you'll have to tell them your odo is in km. Next mot tell your mot man to record it as km, presuming they can change the units. Otherwise, get him to convert it to miles.

Can you fit the speedometer from a V12 Series 3 XJ into a straight 6 car? I know the tachometers are engine specific, but am unsure about speedometers.

Cheers

They'll work if the diffs and gearboxes are the same, if not then it might not read right.

There's often a small number (in the low thousands) written on the face of a speedo, that's the revolutions per mile of the speedo cable.

The number on the bottom looks to be different. Bugger. Was hoping to make my Jag look more sporty than it is!

Edit: Unless it is the ES1100 number

Is there some way I can read info from the OBD1 port on my K11 1994 Micra? I've had conflicting reports of using datscan with an adapter to Android phones, or having to use Consult, and needing a laptop?

For most japanese cars of that era, there's a way to display codes without a proper scanner, by merely bridging two of the terminals on the diagnostic plug with a paperclip.

This thread suggests the K11 is no different.

Motorway in 4th to build some heat up.

Or draw a mystical symbol on the floor, drop some blood in and cast a few spells to whichever Gods you follow.

Either/or really. Your choice.

MOTs can definitely be recorded in either miles or km, but very often you will get miles either way unless you mention it.

OK, here's another Mk4 Golf-related question.

The instruments have started sticking.  Now I've had cars with faulty connections to the instrument panel before, but normally that results in the needles dropping to zero.  On the Golf they're staying in whatever position they were in.  All four clocks are affected - speedo, rev counter, fuel and temp - they will randomly simultaneously stick in whatever position they were in, then equally randomly start working again a couple of minutes later - sometimes they only work for a second or two, sometimes for minutes at a time.

I have no fugging clue.

What do you have to do to keep the DPF system happy on a modern diesel? Do you really have to give it a 20 minute motorway run every couple of weeks?

I heard a good Italian tune up now and then was recommended. I'm assuming the high revs = high (and hot) exhaust flow.

I've got one in my 307 so I'm also interested in looking after it

I look at a similar problem in a friend's A3. From googling this is a common vag problem. I read the two most common causes are dry joints on the dash PCB or water getting into the body control unit. On the A3 I looked at this was mounted in the boot on the rhs.

Obviously the first thing I did on reading that was I googled 'this is a common vag problem'. I'd recommend starting with the NHS's visual guide. Unless you're having your tea.

Hear about the gynaecologist? He decorated his hallway through the letter box. Boom boom.

Has any one ever polished their windscreen?

Need to get some marks left by the workers out and thought about using a kit from Amazon but the reviews are all over the place, is it worth it or just try and get a new screen?

Had the misfortune to have to use one of our eerie6 Dafs last week, fuck me thats a bloody heap, i could rant for hours at how dire the fuckin thing is, always end up shoving ibuprofens down me neck when i have to use one cos they give me rocking headaches.

However on the menu toggle switch there is a DPF symbol, which if you press it will show a bar graph type display of the state of the soot filter, showing completely green and clear normally, had it not then you can manually trigger a regen (or manually prevent a regen if desired) by a simple press of the switch.

If they had fitted that simple as system to cars, yes i know the white goods car users wouldn't have a clue but the facility could be disabled for the clueless so they don't twist their panties up, then many of us wouldn't be shitting ourselves about modern Diesels quite so much, cos at present we haven't a bloody clue what's going on and could easily be stopping several times on the trot just as a regen is about to fire up.

As for PSA's system with the EOLYS fluid, far as i know they don't seem to give half as much DPF trouble as others, their problem (especially the 1.6 doom engine) is stupid oil service intervals leading to excess carbon and blocked oilways and multiple fucked turbos, no doubt not helped by idiots who let the oil run low and switch the bloody thing off when its still glowing red.
