robinmasters Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I'm probably answering my own question here, but why are they called 3/5 window coupes, when they actually have 4 or 6; doesn't the windscreen count as a window? If not, why? It is a bit of glass for looking out of, same as the back & side ones.
fatharris Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I have never heard of them being referred to in this way.
Inspector Morose Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Three are windows and one is a windscreen?
wuvvum Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 A few days ago I broke my lengthy (by my standards) tat-buying fast with the acquisition of a W-reg Fiat Scudo 1.9D. At the time I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to do with it (it was local and cheap, which are generally justification enough on their own without any further specific need), but after yesterday's events it might be taking over daily duties from the Perodua for a while... Anyway. I had been expecting that it'd be powered by the old 1929cc Fiat diesel engine, which for some reason always seems to feel punchier than it should given its power figures. Alas no - it's got a DW8 under the bonnet. It's also glacially slow - 0-60 in 29.5 seconds, a second slower than my old non-turbo Iveco Daily. This is my first DW8 so I don't really know a great deal about them - other than that they sound quite a lot like an XUD. I was giving the levels a check this morning, and the oil (besides looking like black treacle) was on the minimum mark on the dipstick. So I chucked in a litre and a bit of Tesco's finest 15w40 mineral diesel oil. Since then, the oil light has occasionally flickered on at idle - usually when the idle goes a bit lower than usual, e.g. manoeuvring on the clutch or steering at full lock. Probably not the end of the world, but it didn't do it before I filled the oil up. So what's happenin'? Is the fresh oil so much thinner than the treacle that it's caused the pressure to drop? Or could me pouring new oil into an engine which doesn't appear to have had any for some time have dislodged some crud or something which is blocking things up? I've heard of engine flushes doing that kind of thing, and even a full oil change on occasion, but I've never heard of simply topping up an existing sump of oil causing that problem.
fraser.innes.3 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Where can you buy steel box section in small quantities? The only stuff I've found is a meter length from b&q but they are out of stock locally (and not-so) locally.Google steel suppliers for your response. Will be a lot cheaper than bandq and in stock. Usually three meter lengths. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk Craig the Princess 1

Noel Tidybeard Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 What type of bulbs fit this? Alfa 156 sidelight bulb socket ...a broken one! kaboomtish i thank you, i'm here all week
Kiltox Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Anyone know what this is? It's attached to the steering column trim on a Vectra C
cobblers Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Its a thing for an immobiliser that's probably been bypassed. Takes a thing that looks like a coin cell battery on a keyring. Some trackers also use them, each individual driver of the vehicle will "log in" with their own key thing. Kiltox and Nicola H 2
Pillock Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Looks like a immobiliser type thing - you get a circular keyfob thing that presses onto it. Kiltox 1
Kiltox Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Weird on a car that has a factory immobiliser no?
fatharris Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Like said above, could just be used to identify a particular driver along with some vehicle logging equipment. Some people would use it to bollock the driver that's been hooning like a bellend. Nicola H 1
cobblers Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Could be a tracker, but it wouldn't be the first time someone pays good money for an aftermarket immobiliser on a car that already has one. My mate bought a Saxo VTR with a bill in the history for a £1400 immobiliser/alarm. It took 5 minutes to bypass.Same goes for all the old giffers parked in Morrisons fitting diskloks to new Corsas etc. Lacquer Peel 1
Pillock Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Could be - it's just an ID tag and reader, we used to sell them in Maplin. Used in the days before RFID cards and stuff for access control.
Kiltox Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Lead to believe that it's ex MoD so some kind of fleet tracking thing would make sense I guess Nicola H 1
panhard65 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I have got to collect a car for a customer on Sunday from Newcastle. Flying up and driving it back to Somerset. What is the best route back as I know the M1 is a bit fucked. I doubt I can take my sat nav due to stupid flying rules and it's battery is fucked so the easier route the better really.
tooSavvy Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Ncl - Scotch corner A1m Sc - Tebay A66 Tb - Southways M6 et al TS
dave21478 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Satnav can go in hand luggague no problem - I do it all the time.
panhard65 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Satnav can go in hand luggague no problem - I do it all the time. But I believe you have to be able to turn it on. The battery is so buggered it won't fire up unless it's plugged in
dave21478 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Really? I have never had to turn it on. I normally travel with laptop, phone and satnav all in the same bag and never had problems previously. Stuff like that is specific to the airport security checkpoint rather than the airline, I would imagine.
oldcars Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Where else can i try for an exhaust for the Kia. Euro Car parts don't have one.

Much quicker than the poxy A1. Never mind what sat nav says ☺
captain_70s Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Find your nearest power flow dealer and get them to make you one. I'd recommend Turriff Tyres, but Turriff isn't exactly convenient for you.... They made my Dolly 1300 a new front pipe, it's pretty good. oldcars 1
doobietoo Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 But I believe you have to be able to turn it on. The battery is so buggered it won't fire up unless it's plugged in buy a cheapo phone boosty battery thing to run it off....
beko1987 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Exhaust Wrap Next week, I will have a new, and hopefully correct new exhaust for the ZX. Would there be any point in wrapping it whilst it's off the car? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/High-Quality-Exhaust-Manifold-Downpipe-Heat-Wrap-10m-10-30cm-Ties-rap-/191797018488?hash=item2ca7fe3f78:g:PhMAAOSw8-tWapVu Pro's that I can think of:May silence the exhaust a bit Con's that I can think of:May hold the water, rotting the exhaust out quicker... Anyone got any for's or againsts?
skattrd Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Exhaust wrap ... I wouldn't bother unless it's a high performance car. Then only the manifold and I'd probably go for a ceramic type coating instead of wrap ... I may have looked in to this for a certain Daihatsu. beko1987 1
beko1987 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Certainly not high performance, I'll leave it then!
egg Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Are Ford parts made under the motorcraft banner always OEM? I have motorcraft H1 headlight bulbs, will they be identical to those manufactured by 'ford motor company' here? http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_12v_55w_h1_headlamp_bulb_f_4345856.htm Reason I ask, is I need low-uv bulbs to stop yellowing headlights.
