Spotted a gold Austin Metro whilst in County Durham. Was driving though so no photo...

Also saw a facelift Rover 800 fastback there too!

Fitted my OMG JDM yo wing (as in actual wing, not door) mirrors and my OMG LOWZ springs arrived today as well. Just in time for Japfest on Saturday, and its forecast of heavy showers and sporadic rain

My new neighbour has just told me has 2 of these in a garage at his old house:

It's normally quite quiet round here but the good weather has brought some of the local Barrys out to play.

For the last 20 minutes there has been a chavved up Impreza making the usual 'whhhaarrrgghh-p'toooossssh-pop-pop-pop' noises outside.

Except now it has fallen silent after the last excursion ended with the mother of all bangs as a massive backfire blew his exhaust to bits!

I shouldn't laugh.... :twisted::twisted::twisted:

In two weeks time I shall be out on the highways and byways, I'm very excited! I'm going to try and make myself sort out one job a day on the Princess until then, even if it's a little job.

I just found this old spotting on my laptop:

It's now my desktop picture. I can go to bed happy. Small things...

Barrett, I say this purely as a fellow enthusiast, but I hate you.

Nice one Barrett. I saw the pic on Facebook but I didn't know you'd driven it. V12 flathead?

I'm going to break my own 'no re-posting' rule here. That is fucking SWEET. I beg you to come to Chumley in it, there's 20 L&B and a cup of coffee in it if you do.

I'm serious jealous of your Standard Barrett, you are quite literally living the dream at the moment.

zomg it's got the sliding windows and everything, I love it.

Cheers Billy! It's pretty great, in a really bad way. I've only driven it twice so far and really have't got the feel of it yet but I already love it. I would love to bring it to Chumley but I really don't think it's fair on the car, it's only done about 500 miles in the last 2 years and a 14 hour round trip seems like a recipe for disaster.

Barrett: it absolutely is, but isn't that the spirit of Autoshite? Lovely purchase there. And I'm well jel over the old Lincoln Zephyr! You absolute swine sirrah!

In other news, I just noticed I've passed 5,000 posts and been promoted to Lancia Gamma. :D Is that saloon or coupe?

Barrett, you MUST come to Chumley in the standard!

Coward, but I know where you're coming from.

The car I picked up last week had done under 500 miles in the last 2 years ... It didn't stop me from doing 1200 miles in it in 5 days  It was ace btw. I was quite nervous about it, and the car is probably 20yrs younger than that lovely standard.

Just take it steady on the road to Chumley and leave with plenty of time, I'd say you should set off around NOW.

Get off your arse, pack you bags, grab some tools, sandwiches, a flask, Mr Cox and get on the road .... do it!

I'd love to see that car in the metal, but fully understand why a newly qualified driver in a newly purchased fifties motor car with only 803cc might consider a beige Maestro a sensible upgrade for the trip!

Posted

That Rolls is delightfully hideous. I want it for my very own. Failing that, I'll have Barrett's new chodmobile which is just about perfect for the other end of the scale.

Posted

That Standard is just perfect. Although realistically I wouldn't want to drive it to Chumley either. Never driven an 8, but I had a 10 years ago - great for back-road pottering, but I wouldn't want to do a long motorway run in one.

Barrett- its a strong little motor, but built before motorways existed.

It'll be fine on A & B roads- but extended 'highspeed' (over 50) running will cause it issues in the early days. Treat it gently for 500 miles, change the fluids, should be fine. If its squirmy-it'll be the tyres. 80 section radials will feel much better than crossplies. Upgrade the headlights too - before winter.....

Parts are pretty easy to find, and its dead easy to maintain. Tell me the key number(stamped onthe ignition switch) if you need a spare- probably got one.

Otherwise, enjoy.
