What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Excellent work, congrats! In a pool of what was my first thought... can you tell I don't have children?

Hope you don't live anywhere near the Welsh hotels I'll be staying in from next week, I like my sleep...

Congrats Louise! Glad your second home-birth went well. And waiting only mere hours before reporting the news on a website devoted to crap old cars. Marvellous!

Also congrats to Andy Murray. He may not attract fans because he's 'not as nice as our Tim' but he can actually play tennis. Five hour match! Great stuff.

I enjoyed that video clip Tayne, Never seen The Persuaders! before  .

and congratulations to you and your family Louise too! :D

Congrats on baby Huw, nice to see nobody is worried about starting him too young with old cars. Also, it's really good to see people mentioning bits and bobs about getting healthier, much more so how easy it is to just change a few things to get a big improvement. This thread is a good thing, helps give a bit of balance when I log on and turn into Sir Whinge-a-lot.

Congrat's indeed to Mr Murray, after his fantastic efforts at the Olympics this is the icing on the cake, plus he's British again now :D

Also having an interview, pulling out my trump card at the end and hoisting myself by my own petard in incredibly spectacular fashion made me laugh later.

Congrats to Louise and her new arrival.

I kept the copy of Auto Trader I was hiding behind when Claim Jr was born as a souvenir!

People who try to acquire class by proximity make me grin. I parked the DS in B&Q car park as far away from every other car as I could so it wouldn't get dinged by morons opening doors or runaway trolleys. When I came out after making a huge purchase of one cupboard catch everything was as I left it, my car was still away from all the other cars except, as though it had just landed from another planet, right next to the DS was a shocking pink Jimny with pink furry steering wheel cover and many other pink eand chrome extras.

FUCK OFF You will never have any class.

Thanks all.

Nature is amazing, I'd forgotten everything about what giving birth feels like.

I have a vision of you relaxing in a hot tub watching the boys and having Huw pop up from underwater and start bellowing for a feed.

OH, he is Welsh so it would be a tuneful bellow !!!

This is actually pretty accurate. Except he came out asleep! He hardly made a sound until this afternoon.

Congratulations Louise;the ultimate in Autoshite births would to have done the hospital dash in the Astra,or even IN the Astra :)

He's just lulling you into a false sense of security!

Congrats by the way (I was going to put it at the end of my previous message but got distracted by my dinner). I wish you all the best. :)

I wonder what sort of car these brothers would have gone in for back then ? Something like a Citroen or Renault maybe

I could just as easily stick this in the 'grump' thread but has everyone seen this bit of genius legislation from the good ol' Doovla?

Apparently in January there's a new law coming in which will allow 16 year olds to drive a new class of microcar. Should be fun......

That microcar shit is fucking ridiculous. 28mph top speed, driven by kids, yeah that's not gonna piss off an already irate nation of drivers.

My prediction: A few kids will be killed and then they'll make them illegal.

Congrats to the new mum! I'm sure the child will get a proper edukeshon in shite!

1) Congrats, Louise

2) Going to Ikea when I owned my Victor pickup. I bought a big wall thing with shelves which came in a set of boxes. Brought the Victor round to loading bay, the lope of the exhaust note reverberating off the building. I hefted everything into the back, tied it down and then got a guilty pang of satisfaction as the lady in the BMW X5 who had turned her nose up at me loading stuff into a 70's heap of shite busted her back window by slamming it down on a cabinet she'd had to take out of its box to fit in the back of her vehicle.

That does sound pretty satisfying! :D

If they limit those new scooter car 'things' to town centres and say 40mph zones they'd be great. What one of us as a 16 year old wouldn't have fancied getting one of those?

in the old days, 'keyless technology' was simply another name for 'hotwiring'!

The recovery driver who picked up my fubared BX said he picked up one of those earlier in the day - flat battery. Ha ha ha.

RE 16 year olds - word on the work lunchtime conversation is that from January they will no longer be entitled to ride mopeds... is this true?

I hope so, the 16 year olds around here on 'peds are a bloody PITA and a law to themselves.

^ I'd Imagine the 2 bits of legislation are related, kids are allowed mopeds at 16 so they can get to work. If they can now have one of these microcar things (which they won't be able to afford) then the government can placate Trigger and the OMG think of the childrens safety twats by getting them off mopeds.

The big downside is that driver skills will plummet as far fewer people will learn them on small motorbikes like they have in the past.

But as this is the grin thread, I'm smiling because I'm back on term time shifts this week so I can weld up the Austin without worrying about giving the local kids arc eye :D

Cheap free tools:

My mate gave me a welder - "powercraft" that he bought from aldi. It was cracking for a year but then the wire feed packed up and he couldnt find the reciept. I took it to bits and it just needs a new motor, and it turns out its just a SIP 135 rebadged - even the bloody PCBs say SIP on them. not that sip welders are really any good but it's better than the chonk rubbish I expected.

Another mate brought me some 160 amp ESAB welder over to fix, it had wire feed but no current. Must weight 100kg, it's the biggest MIG welder I've ever seen. Fixed it with a 27P transistor, and he's given me an auto-dimming mask and loads of beer for fixing it.

Mate number three (look at me!) donated a pretty good Makita drill with fucked brushes and battery. £4 brushes, a few new cells in the battery and £3 capacitor to convert a 120v charger to 240 and I'm away. Happy days!

The problem around here is that all the mopeds seems to go considerably quicker then 30mph, in a 30mph zone, they all travel in packs swarming your car from both sides making car drivers feel very intimidated and many of the bikes don't even look fit to be on the road, It's a real bug bear of mine.
