Met a shiter today! @AnnoyingPentium.

We had a wee chat about cars and he had a drive of the Vectra V6. Glad you liked it. Also I had a mooch around Newport near Telford. Despite having grown up not far from there, I never (knowingly) ventured into Newport. Seems like a delightful little town. I'll have to visit on a day that isn't a Sunday.

@Six-cylinder dont watch the new harrys garage

i havent yet but lol at the thumbnail

I have watched it, but did not needs statistics from a warranty company having owned 6 over the last 23 years to know Range Rovers are not the best quality. I did agree one point with the warranty guy nothing else matches them for the ownership/driving experience/capability. I have considers Shoguns, Land Cruisers, BMW X5 and anything else I could think of that had a 3.5 ton tow capacity, but keep returning to Range Rovers.

Mate took this off me, bike and home for the last four nights. Cracking spot and great weekend with a top bunch of lads.

On the way back now, first leg has my bike in the back of a transit which is currently being skilfully piloted my a trusted pal using the gears and handbrake to stop. No drama, this shits second nature given our advancing years and history of shite vehicles.

My Mk2 Focus (15 years old, owned by me for ten years and on nearly 130k miles) needed a fair bit spending on it to get it through its next MOT, so I've replaced it with this Polo Match 1.2 Bluemotion.  No collection thread needed as I bought it from my sister's fiancé and they only live a few minutes' walk from my place, he doesn't drive anywhere any more and it was sitting in his garage doing nothing - just needed a new battery to get it going.  Not as big as the Focus but certainly cheaper (£20 a year tax coz Bluemotion) and pretty punchy for a small engine.

Due to its number plate I have named it Blaze. :P

(edit) As for the Focus, my mechanic has bought it off me and will be teaching his son to work on it and he will learn to drive in it when he turns 17.

Seems like the lunchtime DJ on BBC Radio Norfolk might be shiter.

He does a "guess the year" quiz. Yesterday in addition to non car related clues he referred to the year being when the mark 5 Vauxhall Astra was launched. I couldn't decide if it was 2004 or 2005. He played "Mr. Brightside" by the Killers.

Today he mentioned the launch of the Ford Fiesta and the long hot summer so definately 1976.

I remember when it was socially unacceptable to crayon all over people's for sale threads.

I remember a “gnat’s cock” was also a commonly used engineering unit in the 70s and 80s.

Took the kids on a fishing taster session.  Not something I've ever done before.

This lad has an absolute whale of a time.  I reckon he's hooked.

In an hour we caught these.  The chaps showing us actually held one back too in case the next lot didn't catch anything (as had apparently happened the day before).

Just roasted them.  Reckon we might try to figure out a smoker.

There was literally nothing left to give the hens but the heads.  2/3 kids went back three times for more and left their chips.

That looks like a fantastic experience, glad you enjoyed yourselves. I grew up in (and still live in) a seaside town, and have fond memories of days spent at the beach fishing with my mates as a kid.

Every time I walk along the beach, I wonder if I fucked myself over by getting into cars rather than sticking with the fishing - it’s got to be a less stressful pastime, sitting on the beach and enjoying the view 🤣

I grew up in a seaside town, and have fond memories of days spent at the beach fishing with my mates as a kid.    An Prof of Psychology I worked with studied and lectured about Work/Life balance and had no* influence on me so I walk along the beach, call work for another sick day and catch lunch.  Good luck with fishing, it can change your life for the better.

I was chatting to a relatively new colleague yesterday, a pleasant young chap. He explained he commutes from Derby to Liverpool... about 1.5 hours he said.

Out of curiosity I asked what car he drove... after a few seconds of thinking he replied 'a Vauxhall Golf'!
