What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Where I work there's about an 8 year waiting list for parking spaces.  I've been there just over 7 years and last week got an email inviting me to fill in an application form to get on the waiting list.  Got an email yesterday saying "we're still trying to sort out everyone's start dates to work out where you go in the queue, but in the meantime, because it's the summer holidays and loads of people are off, we're giving you a temporary permit valid until September".  So today I drove in to work for the first time.  It's actually no quicker than my usual routine of driving to the outskirts of Norwich and cycling the rest of the way, because traffic / inability to use bike lanes, but it meant I didn't arrive at the office sweating like a twat, and it'll be most welcome when it rains again.

One of the things the Audi failed its MOT on was rear tyres.  They're 195/65x15 so a reasonably common size, and there are plenty on eBay.  I was about to press BIN on a pair when it occurred to me that the HRV is currently running on Citroën Pigsarsehole steels as two of the alloys have bald tyres.  So I thought I should check what size the steels are on the off chance - bingo, 195/65x15, and the fronts are a pretty decent pair of Bridgestones.  So that's saved me a few quid, given that I was going to treat the Honda to a pair of tyres anyway.

I vote that you continue to ride into work and make the absolute most of attaining a parking spot at work by buying another car to park in it. Preferably something MOT exempt and disgusting.

My new* manual V8 Discovery :-)

I keep noticing people looking round for the sports car, and wondering if it's behind that old Disco coming up the road...

The time axis needs changing from hours to weeks, else it's pretty accurate.

For Dyane, read 'years'...

A slightly older blokey at a site I visit irregularly is quite into his cars, and has a 1979 Ford Escort RS2000. I've know about this for a while and have chatted with him about it a few times in the past. Not my cuppa tea, but I love the fact that he has it.

I found out a few days ago that he'd actually bought it from new as a present to himself in 1979, and has absolutely everything from the last 39 years of ownership. It's still used on a regular-ish basis, and he has done all work to the car himself for the last 30 years. He has no plans to get rid of it, and will likely keep it for as long as he possibly can.

For some reason this made me really quite happy! I can't imagine there are very many people who have owned a car for nigh-on 40 years from new.

There's an old dear lives in a posh bit of Wroxham, must be 80 if she's a day.  Drives an Inca yellow Dolomite Sprint, which rumour has it she's owned from new.  Doesn't hang about in it either.

I was going to do the same, but plans have changed. I'll have to see her next year with all the crowds in the Lakes.

I went and bought this week’s Classic Car Weekly and the Mazda has made it in.

Something awesome will be happening tomorrow, too....

I've seen it. I've touched it. I've handed over a wadge of cash (someone else's) and it's now on my driveway.....

Today's main grin is I finished work at 12 & have now serviced the bike. Time for a doze, haircut, shave n shower before heading for the ferry. Two weeks in the Alps beckons :D

There's a lady round here that has a Riley RME which she has had from new! She still uses it more or less daily though she and the car, are now getting a tad old.

I should point out that I was referring to the mighty Mazda, not this week's issue of CCW.

Some of you may have seen this already (looks reminiscent of the XKCD.com house style) but after my pointless dicking around with a non-steaming Vax steam mop last week, it certainly holds up...

I mended the handbrake on the Jag the other week and now when I wind down the nearside rear window the offside one comes down as well.

dollywobblers latest video, as someone who is "somewhat" of a bus-nutter this makes me grin no end  (PS Mr wobbler mentions there was some sort of collection caper getting the bus is there a thread on that? :) )

Ahh British design quirks. I used to have a Discovery that did that, with the added bonus that if you put one window up the other went down first...

Yesterday I had a grump that I had visited Gumtree and bought another bloody car. Collected it last night, did a couple of minor repairs and today to see what it was really like took it for an MOT to give me a work list.

Passed with a couple of advisories :-D - will have to go and update my blog with details now.

No, somewhere in t'north.  I don't know where he lives, but he works in Manchester.

I may have to ask him if I can post one of his Pics up here as it's a great looking car.

I noticed this too - we're up in Teuchterland (Brora) for most of the week but may pass by this on the way down and hang around just in case we see it.

It would be nice to see the hard work as I'm a Marillion fan, and I'd just got my own gaff and my first internet connection when the salvage was ongoing, so kept up to date online with the tale in between visits to The Hun dot com and bangedup dot com...!

There's a couple of them, they were following each other in the middle lane of the M5 (wankers) a few weeks ago. One doesn't have any marking on though.
