Sat in the 2cv this morning in laithwaites car park in Virginia water waiting for it to open ( does that sound bad?), green moggie van( f reg suffix)  goes past , occupants look and wave.

Love stuff like that. I was out this aft and a mk2 escort and a capri went past in convoy. The mk2 was leading, had a full stadium rig on the front and both of them hit all the lights and waved cos I was in an old car as well. Makes you happy!

I only looked up as I had the window up and heard something interesting coming closer. Also followed a D reg Land Rover for a while from ascot.

You know how it goes, you spend ages getting your paint gleaming and those cloudy headlights just let the whole thing down.  A quick buff and it just transforms the whole thing.

Now stand back and admire your handy work!

  Practically a brand new van.

20 years old and quarter of a million miles and who know how many 'unsympathetic operators', it's done well just to survive!

I must admit that was exactly what I thought of when I saw it before I'd even scrolled down to see the album so it's bang on in that respect.

But what actually is it? Is it edible?

How can you miss a moving train? Or more to the point, not miss.

I mean it's a bloody steam train with a bell clanging constantly. How much noise does it have to make before you notice? And apart from that how can they not have seen it? Got everything they deserve I reckon.

It's a posh bread and butter pudding made with rhubarb. She saw it in a magazine. I'll admit, I might have married up a bit.

For our younger readers...

As I recall, the story went that someone created a forum account on here specifically to ask if anyone knew the whereabouts of a particular Land Rover 110, registered D701SWL. It was of great sentimental importance to them, as their father had bought it new in 1987 and they really wanted to track it down.

Nothing much popped up, until a year or so later when someone else joined to say that they were also searching for D701SWL, and had been led to discover the AS forum through a Google search on the registration, which brought up the original post. They really wanted to track down the whereabouts of this specific Land Rover because... their father had bought it new for their mother in 1987.

Much confusion and hilarity followed, with various theories set forth to explain the paradox - including that the two posters were long-lost siblings; that there was only actually one person involved but they suffered from bouts of amnesia; that the vehicle had the capacity to warp space and time and was a convergence point of the Omniverse; or (perhaps most plausibly) that the Land Rover dealership had messed up the number plates and perhaps another Land Rover - say D710SWL - appeared in family photos with its digits showing in the wrong order (which is seemingly more common a problem than you'd think - didn't we have a BMW X5 on here the other week which was showing as a Transit because the plates had been made up wrong?).

Over the years it's become something of an AS in-joke whenever passing mention is made of any Land Rover, since D701SWL "can be claimed by anyone, to have been bought at any time in the past, present or future, by their relative of choice".

Various forum software upgrades over the years seem to have caused the original posts to vanish into the digital ether, but all I can say is it was ver', ver' funny at the time.
