What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I've been grinning today, after over a week of not grinning.

Let me set the scene - Monday the 13th, I am driving Boris along a country lane when the battery light comes on for a moment and then goes out again. Repeat repeatedly and then stays on. Bugger. Boris, for those who don't know is a 2010 Skoda Octavia estate with a 1.6 CR TDi engine and a manual 5 speed. I drive the 10 or so miles home with all the electrics off and inspect the problem. Belt is slack, but not broken, so the tensioner is dead. But why so suddenly and with no warning?

Ah, the alternator pulley one way clutch is completely FUBARed and has taken out the tensioner. Luckily the crank and aircon pulleys are fine. The alternator also seemed fine, apart from the pulley obviously.

I also had no time to fix it so would need to farm it out to the local garage, and the car was also coming due a service in a few weeks - so bollocks to it, I'll pay to have it all done at once. Battery on charge and belt off, and the garage could fit me in no earlier that this Wednesday. So be it. £360. Ouch.

So why grinning? I don't know how long or how much drag the damaged alternator pulley was causing or how much the shiny oil and new filters all round has helped, but economy has jumped from about 55 to more like 62 over the last 100 miles or so.

Had a pilgrimage on Kefalonia today. When I came here in 1988, I scrawled my name on the wall in a ruined prison within the confines of a Venetian castle on a peninsula called Assos:

I went back there today to see if I could locate the writing. I found it in an old guardhouse:

If you look carefully you can hopefully see ‘ADAM 88’:

I performed a minor restoration:

Simple thing but I was well chuffed to find it.

Also on the way the road passes above Myrtos Bay, which is the most photographed beach in the world. It looks fucking incredible, but is in fact shit - gravel / shale surface with a rough and aggressive sea:

But what’s this in the bay?:

A massive fuck-off super yacht.

I looked it up and it is called ‘A’, belongs to a Russian billionaire and cost the best part of half a billion quid.

143 metres long and the masts are 100 metres tall:

Looks quite sinister.  Bond villains boat.

This Bond villain didn’t pay for it though. Bilked the maker for half the cost.

This is properly old now. It's the first time I've watched it in ages though.

Some absolute gems and some crap lines but overall it's decent.

Snatch Wars.

Given the fashion for encouraging children to change gender (ignoring the long-term effects), I'm surprised this hasn't caught on....

Hairy chested sports cars just don't get much better than this when the sun comes out. Short trip for an Mot but I will be taking a detour to avoid the fuel queues. 😁 9 miles since the last Mot.....😔
