They're a funny lot at RGYC, especially the ones who don't know they've died yet but are still going through the motions.

Hahaha! I see you are familiar with the establishment sir!

There are certainly a few pained expressions on show usually.

A grump that turned into a grin.  I've been doing overtime at work to help out a department I used to work in which has been left in the shit when members of staff have departed and left a clusterfuck behind them.  Today my head of department came up to me and said she'd had a query from the payroll guys as there was a discrepancy in my overtime submission for April.  Looked into it and it turned out I'd somehow managed to lose count of how many hours I'd done and had gone over what I had been authorised to do.  Which pissed me off somewhat - I don't mind the work but I'm fucked if I'm doing it for free.

When I got back from lunch the boss came back to see me and said "I've sorted it with payroll, I've just authorised the extra hours - I don't mind, they're not coming out of my budget..."

Not gonna complain at that...

What made me grin on Sunday: commentating at Silverstone on a mixed saloon and GT race for 70s and 80s cars.  The field consisted of a horde of Porsches and BMWs, Camaros, Sierra Cosworths, a Skyline, and various other impressive machines, but what made me grin was at the back of the grid were a Peugeot 309 and...an MG Montego!

I've just seen that, in the browser tab for Autoshite, there's a little Ford Sierra bASe.

This has made me extraoirdinarily happy.

Well done everyone.

PS - here's a little pic of her from last year.  Hoping to get the engine rebuilt in the next few weeks so we can get back on the road!

In a fit of silliness this afternoon I decided (on private ground of course) to do a V-Max test run in the van.  As much as anything to see if the fact that it seems to breathe better with the new (loud) exhaust is in fact all in my head or not.

Previously she would top out at 74-76mph (Speedo wobbles a bit).  Was astonished to see an indicated 83mph today (Speedo max is 90).  The horrible steering wobble north of 70 has gone now too which is nice.
That's a pretty respectable showing I reckon for a vehicle of a type that is usually seen at 50 tops!

No, I will not be doing the same with the Invacar any time soon.  This was silly, childish and irresponsible...even in a nice stable, well engineered vehicle with good brakes...gave myself an almighty slap to the face after I was done.

happy to see that the new exhaust has made a healthy difference I bet it was quite loud at 83? is that GPS confirmed? :)

This 2CV has a fresh MOT.

So what? Well, check the MOT history. No, it hasn't been clocked. Yes, it really has done 70,000 miles in two years. It was driven to China, then the full length of the Americas. My mate Chang did the trip with his wife and small child. I'm looking forward to meeting up with them again in Croatia this summer.

Some highlights of that trip.

Bolivia.

Last Friday, while Holly and I were having drinks with another couple, Holly stated that she and I never argue.

"That's not true," I said, "We argue every day."

"Don't lie," Holly responded, "that's not arguing, that's just you being a dickhead."

As such, I decided to write down every argument that Holly and I have this week to prove, contrary to Holly's statement, I actually show an impressive degree of patience, self restraint and logic when presented with the exact opposite.

Just handed my notice in at my company, felt bloody good, especially as i can say goodbye to the heap of junk Daf I'm driving. New job is local, similiar hours, but a 5k payrise! I'm having a celebratory cream cake and posh coffee.

One of the yellow headlights in the BX went pop today.  Sad times.  Happily, Dean is a forward thinking sort of a seller and had left a spare pair of perfectly good not-yellow headlights in the glovebox.  Free fixes are the best fixes.

Tremendous.

I got chatting to this lovely bloke on Sunday. He had the most fantastic flying jacket you’ve ever seen - must have been a genuine B3 item. Anyway, he was in the same vehicle run as me. Said some lovely things about my old heap and then disappeared.

Turns out he went to Mongolia in this. 1959 Berkley. 350 ish [EDIT - 400cc]

If everyone can stop being nervous of taking their old car down the road that’d be great!

Sorry. Too much fucking gin. I meant CC. I did a bit more digging and they changed it to a Honda 400cc engine. No reverse gear but it’s so light you can just lift it up and walk backwards.

Translation: Please sell me your fucked pile of shite worth, at most, £100, for £700, then dispose of your prepaid mobile in the nearest canal.

It's a quiet day at work today so I'm in 'can I save money' mode.

Had a look at the car insurance. Knocked it down by 1,000 miles to 13000 a year (my commute 5 days a week x52 weeks a year, so annual leave/sick days will cover the difference for the personal pootling I do occasionally) and knocked fully comp down to 3rd party because let's be honest, the book price for a 1997 ZX with tatty bodywork and many already dented panels will be fuck all anyway and all I'll want is it dragged home so I can take my radio and stuff out and I'll call ASM - down from £45 a month to £28.

I then added full UK breakdown cover for £4 a month... So from £45 to £33.49. Valu! Extra valu because we need to cancel the AA as A - We've never used it, B we aren't going to be living together so it's probably invalid anyway as it's all set up for the same address, so I'm even better off by £15.50 a month

Still fucking skint and will need a second evening part time job but not as fucking skint! I can now afford batchelor super noodles rather than stripey tesco ones

V..H..Shite :(

Popped in to our local SallyArmy shop and asked if I could ReCycle <declutter> some prime qualitee tapes for 'charitee' ?

NO..... came the unequivocal reply.......

"err... wocha got, lyke? I've still got a machine.." ventures a spotty herbert helper guy, from the back shop.

Deal was done [at the back door] 7 '6bottle' wine cases full for him to gander at AND, it transpires, another SallBash shop still shelves/dusts them so the remainder may return '2 4 50p' goodness... ;)

Bloody hell, folks, lock up yer chod,

A very not insignificant PPI victory achieved today thankyou please.

It could end up with me with a streetful of cars unless I lob the dough into a 'cannot get at forever' type account.

WHY ? etc

Somehow ended up on an Aberystwyth beach yesterday, with people from Brazil, USA, Vietnam, Poland, Czech Republic and England. Gosh we are spoilt when all these people speak impeccable English!

We had a fire, watched dolphins and saw an amazing sunset. Pretty bloody awesome.

Now with one pic, in which I failed to act quickly enough to capture a dolphin.

I know bolatics is a naff subject .. But

Years ago our wondeful labour controlled Sefton council voted in a local parish council for us .. The type you pay extra rates for ...which was populated with main party types . then along came the new builds ..  A local protest group formed .. Which then became a local party which gained seats on the parish council .....and with the last polling day  has taken all the 7 seats on the parish council and 2 seats off the labour controlled council .....
