What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

On my way home I noticed that abandoned Fiesta van advertising a dodgy recovery business has gone, and without anybody* having to put a window through this time.

It seems the council might actually have lifted it this time someone* reported it, whatever happened there's none of the fuckers left in my part of town, if anywhere at all, result.

Bought a load of gear in Halfords today (had run out of Meguires ultimate quick wax which is absolutely sodding brilliant gear, so easy I just tie a microfibre cloth to Phoebes tail and then telll her she's a 'Good girl' and she does all the hard work for me!   :)     )  and they had 5 microfibre clothes for three quidm but the grin is: the bill should have been £34 and it cost me £22. I love my discount card !   :)

Just made a telegraph for the child for cub scouts. Also a small board to do series and parallel lights. All made with junk found in the garage.

Works well!

eBay.

Over on the GOM thread I moaned that my solitary sale of 2018 has generated a return request because someone bought it "by mistake" (a Macbook charger that was correctly listed, with loads of photos of model numbers, and had the model number / compatibility in the title. Somehow it's my fault they're trying to plug it into a totally different model)

Got another couple of days to respond to it - because even though I've replied to every message within half an hour, I thought I'd make a point that this is not something I'm hurrying to do. Decided to phone eBay, spoke to a lovely man in Ireland (or potentially a lovely Irish man somewhere else in the world) who looked at the item, looked at what I'd done and the reasons and basically told me to reject the return as it was all in line. Although the buyer would pay return postage, I'd lose the original postage amount of nearly £5.

So in conclusion - if you're ever getting your titties in a twist over eBay, just phone them. They're really lovely.

You'll get a negative though, almost guaranteed

I advertised something last week , £300 when working , powers up but cuts out so advertised spares or repair , big description ,, ticked the parts/ not working box

Guy wins it for £30 after a week of bidding on it

Then I get , sorry I didn't realise it wasn't working , how can you bid on something for a week without reading the description

....how can you bid on something for a week without reading the description

There are quite a few people out there who look only at the photo, not the description. It's almost a form of illiteracy.

TBH you do get caught up when you're bidding on lots of similar items. I was after some Lego, kept going in and out of almost identical items wondering which to put bids on and how much (to avoid winning more than one), chose carefully, won it! Yay! Then noticed it was collection only.

Still, I'm not an arsehole so I drove two hours to go and get it.

I know an ex tanker captain who crashed a tanker into Calais. He claims it was the Pilots fault but it is the reason he is an ex tanker captain. Guy is in his 80s now and has a wicked sense of humour. At his daughters wedding the inlaws brought a gavel (ffs) to get attention for the speechs. As the groom’sfather lifted up the gavel David slipped a couple of crackers from the cheese board underneath which were smashed to pieces when the gavel came down. Everyone, but one, in the room found it hilarious.

Pilot may be driving but as far as the law(COLREGs) and most employers are concerned the master remains legally responsible for the safety of the vessel, so if the the pilot spods it up you get the blame anyway.

I put a cheeky bid on a very cheap Audi A4 a few years back, ideal for daily hack duties. Only after I won it I noticed it was on the Devon/Cornwall border. Needless to say, I'm not.

Meh, still went and got it, the way I looked at it was that it was a very cheap car plus I got a nice day out in the countryside!

I did it with this phone, put a dozen G4's in the watchlist thinking that I would check the listings more carefully before bidding. Alert came up that there was 10 mins left just as my daughter brought her bedtime story down for me to read so fired bid in without checking the spec. It's not what I wanted but it does the job.

not long ago, i bought an electric car antenne of famous Hirschmann brand for the 504 and I was very pleased that the instructions included both the 504 and Tagora.

Today, i went to the local electronics shop, and bought another one. To my disappointment, there has been an update and only newish things like 405, 306 and 605 are now covered by the instructions.

I shall promptly complain to the manufacturer!

Gareth crashed his dad's van nearly 2 months ago now. Since then I've been taking him to work and bringing him home and helping him fix his actual car that he abandoned when he got the van.

Its just come back from the local garage who changed the front discs, and in their words we wouldn't have had a fucking chance! They heated them up until they were blue several times before they came off. And now, bar a bit of grease on the discs from fitting which I've mostly wiped off, it is now ready for its mot at 3.15!

Place bets now!

Who is accepting these jobs with massive commutes for no real world increase though?

I have a MASSIVE commute to London but the rate is... significantly more than it costs

Err...People who live close enough to not have a massive commute?

Sunburn?  What on earth causes that?  Sounds terrible.

I've heard Saltburn is worse.

Eh?

We were talking about the people that spend £5000+ on a season ticket for an extra salary that barely pays for it. Plenty of people do it.

That’s certainly what happened in his case. No idea whose fault it was in reality, but he always starts the story with something like ‘this clueless pilot got me sacked by.........’

His car passed! No more 20 mile detour the wrong way in the morning and then again evening! Much beers are owed and forthcoming apparently!

I saw it pulling onto a petrol station so I followed it on, spoke to the owner and he has had it for 30 odd years him and his mrs looked very happy in the old girl, he seemed quite confused that someone was showing an interest in it

How does he get in?

Not actually sure what car it is, but if it's got comfort window opening you press and hold the unlock key to have all the windows open.
