house being sold and garage cleared

if your able to save the fixture and hold onto it for me for when I am able to collect it or have it collected that would be much appreciated, id be more than happy to exchange a few beer tokens to make it worth while for you? :) (out of curiosity are there any other fixtures or fluorescent tubes in the garage?)

if its too much faff or such I understand! I just figured id ask to be safe rather then sorry :)

Watching Mona Lisa (again).

The white jag I’ve just looked up says it hasn’t had its first mot.

It will say that if it hasn't had an MOT since Dec 2005 when the system went online 👍

Alison's front dampers have been replaced. Also a couple of other little bits done.

Obviously I had* to go on a trip to the coast to test them.  Fish and Chips was a useful way to add ballast.

Seat base collapsed on the Princess recently, I wasn't sure why but what I could see without removing the seat was potentially torn rubber webbing.  Wasn't sure how the seat base came apart, and was delighted to discover the diaphragm can be removed without dismantling the seat.  The new webbing I got is a good match for the original, and the fabric looks to be the same hessian as used on the Lanchester, of which we have some left over that was looking for a project.  All wins.  Only thing I'm not sure of is the best product to bond the webbing and the hessian together so I can make two new diaphragms.  The metal rods and hooks are re-usable except for one that has been cut for reasons unknown.

Failure seems to just be degraded rubber, the old webbing comes off on your hands like soot so even if I just put the passenger one (which is intact, but saggy) on the driver's seat I'm pretty sure it too would collapse and then I'd not have a good pattern to work from.

Exactly the same failure I had on the Corolla, I’ll be watching with interest to see how you fix it (I presume your repair will less dodgy than my many loops of strong string around the seat frame).

Wife: have you been away all week, up to Scotland in the Volvo, gallivanting around eating haggis, drinking whisky and playing bagpipes?

Me: of course not dear, I promised I wouldn't do that again. I already told you,  I've been having an affair all week with Emma from accounts, honest!

Wife: (getting angry) I called your accounts office, there is no Emma! Open the boot!

Me: really, there's no need for that, you probably got the wrong department...

Wife: (very angry) Open it!

Me: ok...

You need three bagpipes to get two of them, it's an ancient haggis hunter's secret.

Went down to the storage to check on the Alvis. It was last out in February but started up fine.

It came to me without a mascot, but with a bolt through the rad cap where it had previously been. I had fitted a temporary one (a Spaniel) but found this one on Ebay. I did get an original Alvis one, which was a bit too nice to use. this one is very similar, but probably not quite correct.

Carb linkage on the cortina is missing some bits but I managed to bodge it enough to get it working.

A quick run up the cairn o mount showed that the exhaust is knackered, my new seal on the tailgate is only reducing the intake of fumes slightly and the engine is running a bit rich. And there's something amiss in the steering.

I was grinning like the proverbial cat at the end of it.20220513_182715.thumb.jpg.8dfa29dd39351c21270bf98cfffa1b6e.jpg

ah thats much appreciated :) depends how rough is rough, how is the other end out of shot? im not worried about a bit of surface rust, it can be stripped back and repainted, but if it has broken lamp holders or such, then its probably game over sadly

but would still be good to strip for parts to help with other Atlas Atlantic 2's in other peoples collections :)

Been to see my mate this evening and he felt well enough and wanted to take his new car out for once ( I go incase he feels unwell to return back), it was ok bit plastic ally and cheap and bouncy ride, and small, not my cup of tea.. I was happy to be back in the mondeo... well built .. solid.. more comfy seats..

Done brake pads of both, also adjusted the handbrake and changed the door locks of the 205 which means that, for the first time in my ownership, I now have a 205 with a passenger door that can be opened and locked from the outside as well. Luxury!

Took the LTD grocery shopping. It's currently my daily driver. Pretty good so far, I just minimise parking anxiety by going when it's quiet.

W203 update #2

Radio wouldn't turn on.

Turns out it shat itself, unrepairable, and I hate to pony up with 220€ for a COMAND unit from the Lithuanian folks...

Thats a cracking road and car combo you've got there. Must be interesting with all the hills and bends to have something amiss with the steering!

Its also a far more joyous photo than one I took with my van on that stretch of road last month.

Today's thing I learned: The Caddy has an oil level monitoring system.  It beeps (loudly - it scared the bejeezus out of me) at you and flashes the oil light at you if it's low.

Next question is *why* is it that low?  Was last checked about a week ago and was fine then...no oil stains on the drive (other than the historic ones from the Jag) and nothing on the back of the van.  If it was burning that much I'd expect to see smoke.  Will need to monitor it.

Know I was parked the other way around on the drive when I last checked it, wondering if the slight slope makes a bigger difference to the reported level on the dipstick than I thought.

Just back from Beaulieu autojumble. Not been for several years and it was a lot quieter with perhaps 1/3 of traders spaces empty. Not much for sale in the arena I liked either. Mason’s black silver shadow was smart though.

some oddities spotted, one with hubnut @dollywobblersticker.

big Saab display @Saabnuttoo.

Went to Tesco bought some juice (1.5L.) as the redneck bumper sticker states only juice should come in 1.5L 😂

I sure hope so! I'm going to post it on Monday special delivery, it should be turned around and back to me by Thursday hopefully.

He wants the cash in the box, he's clearly not* doing this under the radar 😂

Yeah it's weird, cash only no PP or bank transfer, I bet its been quite lucrative over the years.

I know Karl well, and it is not what it seems :-) He does declare and pay tax etc, the reason for the cash has a lot more to do with a vengeful ex than the taxman!

Having fun attempting to change rear subframe bushes on my 305, was quite happy with how easy the nut came off till I realised the bolt had become one with the bushing. Also on one side the shock absorber bushing is seized to the trailing arm. Will probably have to cut the shock off and drill this bolt out on the subframe I think which is recessed for god knows what reason, could have saved 2p per car without this operation.

I should have followed the Haynes manual and taken it to a Peugeot dealer although im fairly confident it would be "305 what now?" doubt Peugeot even have the part.
