Top link, eh. The strut top mounts can rust through on these cars, worth checking while you're in about the wheel bearing and can see the top of the strut from the inside.

Strut tops look alright. The original suspicion is that the offside thrust bearing is creaking as that strut is original to the car. I'll have another look once home.

Not the bodyshell strut tops but the top strut mounts can rust like fuck. They aren't very visible til you take the struts off.

Apparently a lot of the press cars were POO.  I've have seen old reviews of Sierras with POO cars in them.

New steering wheel (to replace old, scabby one) procured but yet to be fitted, new Falken tyres fitted at Abbotsinch in Killie, new wiper blades awaiting fitment and a known good MAP sensor from a 2005 Fabia is also waiting to be fitted.

@andyberg: a joy to meet you too, and the lovely Mrs Berg.  Hope you're having a great day!

The X1/9 has just appeared on Instagram as a background model! Perhaps it should get an appearance fee?

My dad liked the Vauxhall - although obviously not enough to take a proper photograph.

Had a lovely day thank you. Mrs Berg loved the scenery around the lakes. We went along Honister pass, just stunning. Then we saw a double decker bus coming the other way!!! Bloody hell that driver had big balls! Thank you for the stuff and recommending the car show, Mrs. Berg was impressed. Of course this means I can take her to more car shows😁 take care Eddy and stay safe .

Another fantastic job by @GingerNuttz this time on my black 93. Its a great car and my wife loves it so well worth fixing in my opinion.

Offside outrigger wasnt:

New outrigger fabricated, the rest of the sill was scabby but didn't need any welding. Legend!

Delighted as always, my wife especially can't wait to get it back!

Like many on here, I have a cheap car eBay saved search. While I wanted a TT, this came up "locally" for £550. So I did a quick hit of the buy-it-now button before anyone else did.

Despite it only being 30 miles away, it ended up being a 1hr45 round trip over the Mendips and back. Nice road though and a pleasant journey.

Current owner had his two sons use it over the last 8yrs. Youngest has gone travelling so they decided to get rid of it.
Paint work is absolutely shite. Looks like the lacquer is flaking off. Might attack it with some G30 or whatever that polishing compound is. No paper service history and the current owner has never done the cambelt. Last serviced 2yrs/12k ago. Also only one key. MOT is only 38 days away too.

On the plus side it drives really well and it even managed nearly 47mpg on the way back. Not bad from a petrol engine. No warning lights, brakes well and drives straight. Everything works bar the air conditioning. It's had an alternator recently and I think a new battery too.
The house was in a nice area just outside Frome and the chap was a honest guy who basically just wanted to get rid of an old unused car from his drive.

I don't think I did too badly in the current market for £550 buy-it-now. It's worth £280 scrap, so technically a £270 car?

My first Ford product that I've owned and it's a decent steer. Not very exciting but as a tool to save miles being racked up on the Civic running around locally and saving the Boxster getting dented, it will serve that perfectly.

I might treat it to an oil and filter change. Probably get it through an MOT first though.

It should tide me over until I find a reasonable TT that has been relatively looked after.

I've had my new daily a couple of weeks now.

Taking some stuff out to the bin, I look at it and wondered if the little square inserts on the front bumper were headlight washers.

To cure my curiosity,  I opened the door, stood outside the car, turned the lights on and washed the windscreen.

I can report that Yes, it  does have headlight washers, they are very powerful and the screenwash tastes fucking awful!

Currently in Germany. The other night I stopped for pizza and beer in a small place called Bargteheide.

Pizza and beer.

But what's that in the background?

A decent and more to the point original and unmolested looking E39. I thought if it was still there when I finished my pizza I'd take a decent picture, but alas it left.

But two minutes later...

But what are the chances of two shite barges occupying the same spot within minutes? It's not like Germany is crawling with old cars. It isn't. Made my evening anyway.

That looks more like an E34 than an E39 to me

After its recent driveshaft gear linkage, the Scirocco was looking a bit odd, high at the back... The reason it was high at the back was because it had snapped a spring at the front - fucksticks. Off it went to my man with the specialist Volkswagen spanners who decreed that because the damping parts of the struts were original & haven't actually been doing anything for a while, he'd replace both entire McPherson bits. He also fitted a complete new gearbox linkage kit. The car has stopped rattling every time it sees a pot hole and changes gear like a totally different vehicle. It still looks like a bag of shit though. Do you think I should wrap a length of rope around one end of the bumper so that folk think it's 'rat look'?

Had a look at this in the light of day. Paint looks to have lost its clear coat and then sun or polish has taken the rest off?

Fuel light is on but the gauge isn't reading minimum. I suspect the stop point is wrong looking at the gauge sweep.

Gauge looks like someone has been in there and fiddling with it

Best thing of all is the engine cover the previous owner made. Iirc these suffer water in the spark plug tubes problem and ford didn't fit a cover, unlike Volvo. Anyway top marks for effort on this.
