If nothing else just to make sure the fuel gauge actually works (it does).

Still got the tractor stance up front, not sure what that's all about.

Excellent! How are you enjoying driving it?

Not really sure if this is the correct thread or if there is a correct thread??

I just want to say to everyone have a great Christmas and New year. The forum keeps me sane, most of the time. Always something interesting to read. Let's hope next year we can all meet up ' officially' and enjoy much more chod.

So merry Christmas, happy new year, stay safe and enjoy what ever company you can.

It's great fun, surprisingly chuckable and manouverable for such a big brick, great visibility and very very comfy! Probably the easiest manual car I've ever driven, it just feels right.

It is however slow as a week in jail above 50mph.  It's definitely not running properly and surges above 2500rpm.  It's 130bhp and not as heavy as you'd expect, I think 0-60mph should be in the region of 10-12 seconds. I'm definitely nowhere near that.

I've double checked the timing is right and adjusted the ignition timing which has no effect. I reckon something isn't right with the fuel system.

My indicators seemed not orangey enough then visit from a friend and he said he's upgraded his, so got him to send me the link..

Something else to keep in mind about automotive lamps is that they exist in a very harsh environment with regards to vibration etc...as such the inevitable filament sag which happens during the life of any incandescent lamp happens there too.  A tiny movement can have a big impact on the performance of the lamp optics, even if the actual output hasn't dropped much.

Case in point nicely demonstrated here.  My nearside headlight failed yesterday so had a new lamp in today.

Here's the offside on, still with an old lamp in.

You can clearly see how much more sharply defined the beam is.

We had a small "The Grand Tour" marathon whilst we had Christmas dinner today. I thought it was a shame that they wrecked in a rare RHD Lada 1200 in Lochdown, but it will probably be restored to an enthusiast I imagine as it wasn't a complete heap, like this Marina they used in a promo clip:

I remember seeing it on eBay, it's an "Apple Jack" green saloon from 1983.

It's not pretty, but it holds water and it's circulating OK.  It's still running a bit cool but I'm not sure there's much more I can do about that.  I imagine it will be several months, if at all, before the missing radiator fan becomes an issue.

No idea why the photo is on its side.

You used to be able to buy springs that went in the pipe and stopped it from linking. Not sure I ever saw any top hose size though.

It’s looking well and gets daily use.

Can't be many places you can get a picture like that. Was it taken in Gosport?

Is Gosport rough enough that you need a naval gunfire support to survive it unscathed?

Driving home for Christmas. What a cracker this thing is on a long trip, plenty of power, heated seats, cruise control and high 40s MPG.

Meanwhile my 205 isn't much better on fuel but is far more basic!

Stop making me feel conflicted...

I changed the front pads on the Civic in the summer because the wear indicators were squealing but the rears looked OK.

The car received an advisory  for rear pads at the MOT in October and @Supernaut gave me new pads foc that he had been going to fit to his now scrapped Civic.

Nearside was well past it.

I also got to try out my new caliper windback tool - works great.

Discs were fairly recent so left alone although I do have a pair that also came free with the pads too.

With the workshop to myself thought I'd have a tinker with the Discovery. First up was patching the nearside outer sill. With the cover off the B pillar needed a piece letting in too. All done and everything packed away it was time to tackle the fuel tank guard/ under-tray. I was supposed to be out playing in the mud tomorrow so thought it wise to replace the rotten guard with a solid one I acquired a couple of months ago. Started to hammer an impact socket on the bolts when.............. Oh bugger

That's the whole cross-member completely rotted out.Just behind the axle so tank out. The fuel tank is just sitting on the chassis legs so won't be too hard to do.

My 205 aka the Peashooter was starting to become a bit crispy around the top drivers side door hinge.

I've been meaning to do something about it for a while, seeing as it's test is due this seemed like a good time.

Still a bit more to do on the inner wing, but I guess for the age of it,it's not doing too bad.

Had to remove the wing, which on a 205 is a ball ache.

Just hope I've welded the door hinge in the right position 🤣

Looks like it's new battery time for the Princess.  Slightly sluggish starting today and wipers slowing down when I had to have brake lights, headlights, heated rear screen, and demister running today.  Alternator appears to be charging properly so I don't think that's the issue.  I'm pretty sure this is the same Lion brand battery the car came to me with so it's lasted at least ten years and has been roundly abused over that time with several charges from flat and demands to jump start other cars so I reckon it's earned retirement.

I know Lion have a reputation for being a bit rubbish but honestly this one has been so good I'd definitely be tempted to go with another.

I've not checked the fluids in the car for a fair while, and have done a fair few trips recently. The coolant was slowly going down...

All spot on 😂 Might have to donate one of my 5l bottles of ready mix (the free one) to the FOD emergency spares stash if this carries on, not touched a drop of the 2l squash bottle full I've been keeping in the car just incase.

Hopefully the old pink goo I saw on the subframe is historic and it just had a small air bubble which it's worked through. Meh

Burnt zero oil over many many cold starts and cold journeys either which is good
