You can probably guess where it is and what's going on.

Lost brakes on the Mk3 Escort while sitting in traffic.... on a hill. Ofuck. Master cylinder gave up.

Got the lexus is200 running the other night. Has a 1UZ-FE v8 from an ls400. Rolling a speeduino for the engine management, It's been an interesting experience getting it wired up as the car was running on the original is200 ECU and wiring loom so I've had to use documents from both cars to get it wired up.

So two disco dizzies, coil and two igniters. Uhhhhgh. It was an ass ache to get running properly and I have no idea how to setup the injector voltages as I cant seem to find any info on the stock ones.

Hmmm cable monkey. Extended to loom with proper color coded wires into the glove box for now. There is a video on the upoop below of it running.

Ran out of electricity? You can’t put 5litres in from a can if you run out of go.

Indeed- the rock bottom of bASe. I saw this one at FoTU back in the summer, but never thought I'd see it again.

If you go to Italy or Greece you could get a sub-surface level of base by getting the 1.1 engine for extra low tax.

Is the 14 the suitcase gearbox engine combo?

Up until 1986 when the TU was unveiled. This means there is a year of facelift BX 14s which still have the original design running gear installed.

Can afford to buy/PCP a brand new Tesla but too tight to get someone to recover it on a wagon that's anywhere remotely close to it's GVW.

These are the same breed who put Triangles, Barums and Hiflys on their £70k Mercs.

The mind boggles.

Yep 2+ tonne of car on a sprinter that will max out at 1.5 tonne at the most, probably closer to a tonne, so only 1 tonne over the limit.

Actually there was a lower spec, simply called "BX" which had four speeds and 10hp less than the 14E, but still 1360cc.

The car shown in the brochure must be a 14E because the base model didn't have any protective side mouldings.

Hey you're right too! Here's a comparison:

Left is Mk.1, right is Mk.2.

Horsepower difference will be down to using a 32mm bore carb instead of a 34mm carb. It also looks like certain runs had body coloured sills depending on whether they felt like it or not.

Also found some BX11 piccies

The ultimate misery in comfort. The engine looks the exact same as a 1986 BX14 but with smaller liners and pistons. They even added EFI to it, too.

Aye there is a lower 'BX' spec, as owned bytwosmoke300 and seen at Shitefest '19

It also drives bloody lovely and was a key component in my own purchase of a BX a mere four months later

Yeah that white BX11 picture looks a bit squished. No clue why, nor do I understand why the first two pictures didn't embed at all.

Today I learned that the first several search results stating that a type 096 battery is correct for the XJS are talking rubbish.  It's a good 3/4" too wide to fit in the battery tray.

What fun.

What do Tayna say it needs? Never had them get it wrong yet, but there's a first time for everything.

That's the main reference I was using...

We'll get it sorted, but it's always irksome when parts lookup tables are wrong.

I received the sad news today that one of my old headgasket heroes, the ex- @RobT  and @MrDuke 416GTI has been scrapped :(

IMG_20180920_153927209

The chap that bought it off MrDuke had given it to his brother that loved it, alas this week someone opened a door and scraped down the passenger wing and doors - all cosmetic damage. However the car was insured by Direct Line, and apparently their small print states that any car insured with them over 25 years old will not be repaired, the only option is that it's taken away and written off.

Keep an eye on Copart, I guess.

That's odd, I insure Herman with DL and the salesman told me that they won't be insuring him in a couple of years because of the 25 year age threshold.

Same here, I no longer insure with DL.

Sad new, but the 416 had a good run I suppose.

As for Direct Line, one for the ever growing c**t list.

We're still fighting with Ageas over Mrs LabRats shunt in the Tivoli a few weeks back. The repairs garage that they use initially refused to take any cars from Oldham, then relented and said that they would send us a link to email them photos of the damage, to enable them to order parts. (Apparently we're looking at 12-18 weeks parts shipping from Korea, so they won't take the car away until they have them)

They've now stopped answering the phone and Ageas are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Only the claims handler that Mrs LabRat spoke to can deal with the claim and she's "not available" and hasn't been for the last week.

In the meanwhile, the Tivoli can't be driven as the headlight falls out, front wing has exposed edges is now out of MOT and has thrown an ABS light as well just for the hell of it. It's also got a flat battery, because can't get near it to jump it thanks to arsehole neighbors.

It's tempting to sack them off, flog the fucking thing to WBAC and use the cash to pay off the last of the finance on it (she still owes £1500 on it)
