Do that, keep the receipt because the nanosecond you arrive home with the new ones, the missing original one will magically reappear right in front of you. You can then waste the petrol taking the new pair of 6x9s back to wherever you bought them from.

Nah, it turned up.

Knew it couldn't be that deeply buried as I'd dug them out of deep storage together a year or so back.

Predictably the carpentry involved turned into a total farce after about 30 seconds, but I got there in the end.

(sorry I can't get rid of this quoted bit for some reason)

Mrs Grogee is making noises about a cheap low insurance car for 15yo to be fettled in readiness for learner driving. Thus learning the ways of the spanner before the ways of the driving instructor.

She has happened across this which (at first glance) looks like ideal territory, and it's being sold by someone we sort of know. Full history apparently, £600. Is there anything we should be wary of? My knowledge of Maruti shite is sketchy.

It needs both bumpers changing but to me that's a fun scrapyard challenge. Or, leave them pre-fucked in readiness for teen abuse.

Check insurance group first. I’m looking for a first car for my 17 year old to learn in and Suzuki’s seemed quite high compared to Fabia , Ibiza, polo.

It's 9, but I don't really know what that is relative to 107/Aygo etc. I should probably do some research.

Been a week on holiday. The Mondeo estate performed flawlessly, everything seems to work though it's still feeling lethargic, but I think its working as it ought to be and it's my come down from the previous car still skewing my perception.

The Mondeo hatchback is not behaving at all though, and I'm starting to get a bit stuck for what to do. Wifey needs it for work, loves it and doesn't want to let it go, I hate it and want it to become bean tins. Or at least, someone else's problem, cut losses, get something that works.  The problem is that I took the Volvo off the road as I need to service it and sort a few things out. So until I can get the time to do all that there's no spare for when the hatchback is in the garage.

I might have to delegate all responsibility and tell her to either get it sorted in her own time, book it in, spend the money etc etc or drive it until limp mode death and sort her own transport out.

We'll be in Whitby this afternoon, MrsV8 is performing a wedding ceremony on the beach.

That reminds me, if anyone ever needs marrying, burying etc. Under the auspices of 'the Church of the barefoot Way', I am legally qualified to do all of that Godlike shit (apart from circumcision), all thanks to a form I completed on the internet way back in the mists of time.

I've got to laugh really, just got in to work in the pickup this morning and it was absolutely thrashing down with rain. So I decided to sit in the van for ten minutes and eat my breakfast and slurp a coffee while the rain hopefully calmed down.

My back is stiff today on account of all the scratting around under the van yesterday, so I got out of the drivers seat and sat in the back of the van so I could stretch my legs a bit.

I noticed that the window next to me was quite steamy, and was wondering if it was the steam off my coffee that had caused it., All of a sudden there was a fairly strange "pop" noise followed by a hiss, and almost immediately my calves and feet were covered in boiling hot coolant and the van instantly filled with steam like a sauna, I couldn't see a thing!

Since the van is Swedish, There's a heater matrix under the back seat as an auxiliary heater and it had chosen the one moment someone was actually sat next to it to explode.

Luckily I've got thick jeans and boots on today otherwise I'd be in A+E at the moment!

Could you marry someone to their car? Do they have to be sober or know what's going on for it to work legally?

Just thinking of the next shitefest...

Rust.  And cats.

I liked the Alto but I gave low ball offer based on the remaining 10 days MoT. Actually I advised her to stick it in for MoT because the underneath is clean enough to eat your dinner off - no rust at all. The exhaust looked brand new.

The cats stayed inside so I didn't get their input (yes I know you meant catalyst).

Right, now off to view a Focus Powershift that might be cheap on account of the fucked gearbox. I am suspecting it's "just" a solenoid which might mean it's bargainous

I was updating my address on my drivers license once and changed my title to Reverend thinking they'd never do it without paperwork. Surprisingly they did though.

Thinking that if I ever got pulled over, I'd probably best have something to back this up, so I got ordained online somewhere just to possibly cover my arse in case I'd done something illegal. That church was quite clear on circumcisions too, its a worry that there might have been a situation that necessitated that.

A few years later I was at a festival and this couple walk up to me and ask 'Are you a religious person?' 'Oh fuck' thinks me, 'trust the loonies to find me, I'm ripped to the tits, I can't handle a preaching from god club' so I said 'No, not even slightly' but they said 'Would you mind being religious for a few minutes, we'd like to get married', cue me whipping out my driving licence and performing, sadly what was a rather poor ceremony as I was as smashed as the Bishop of Southwark in the back of a Mercedes. However, so were the couple so it probably didn't matter too much.

I hope they were very happy together.

Are you able to give the Last Rites?

The plan for today is to tidy the unit so it's less of a shit tip. Unfortunately it's pissing it down and blowing a gale, so I don't really want to go outside. But I'm pretty sure @Supernautis already on his way in his 205 to help, so alas I actually have to go outside.

The 205 should help with shifting the shelving from my council lockup thanks to their tardis like boot. It does help that the shelving comes apart into quite small pieces though.

Includes whole AX rear axle. It makes me wonder how hard it would be to convert a BX into a conventionally-sprung vehicle.

... Seriously wishing I had more cable to hand and more time right now as I'd really like to just gut the wiring cabinet in the van and start afresh.

May well still do that down the line.

I'd forgotten quite how much nonsense was in there despite the amount of de-bodging I've already done.

The red wires which can be +12VDC, ground or 230VAC line are just special.  At least I have *labelled* most of them now.

Worst is that I'm pretty sure that's factory wiring!

It would be, EU mains wiring colours didn't become a legal requirement until 2004-6.

I really wanted to go to the Silverstone Social meet this morning - last one of the year, but taking a RWD mid-engined sports car up to Northampton in that just wasn't going to happen.

I did notice something whilst shopping, however.

Whilst buying the Merc, the seller was honest about the advisory for tarnished front brake lines. In fact, so worried was he, that he'd taken it into the garage to get it checked over and they of course assured him it wasn't a major problem. His worry was that he used the car to transport his kids around.

He also mentioned that he'd put a rear tyre on before the MOT as it was low. What he neglected to say was that despite the car already having 2 Michelin Pilots and a nearly-end-of-life Bridgestone, he'd decided to put a right old piece of crap Chinese ditchfinder (I believe "Goodway" is the brand).

What's worse, is that it's on the rear. So he cares about the kids safety with the brakes, but puts some right old shite on the driving wheel 😂
