gm
yikes - shouldn't you be wearing gloves when handling that toxic looking goop ? and what is it doing to the grease in the balljoints ? should look a treat once painted and bushed though, good work have you priced up a new set of 8 alignment bolts yet ? ? I guess you don't want to work with it everyday without gloves.Ball joints are going to be changed they are knackered - might as well do it properly once. Alignment is a bit further down the road. Get it bushed and jointed then get it aligned . The bolts are a bit crispy so was going to get the mx5 specialist in Burnley to sort them out and set it to AVO specs. The Moog
My paint arrived - bought from Amazon First coats onLooks ok. I did the stupid thing of applying too much paint so it ran a bit. Whilst that was drying I cut off the abs sensor bolt on the arm as I don't need it and wanted to be able to paint underneath Grinder tickleNorthern monkey also lent me his BJ puller. It's a meaty bit of kitMade easy work of itTook the arms out, washed and let them dry. Then painted with two coatsI thought I was being clever and warmed the first arm on the BBQ which meant the paint bubbled a bitMakes it look like it has got scabiesPushed all the bubbles out and gave it another paint layerLeft them dryingI need to source front and rear lower arms which don't seem to be that cheap at the moment. Half thinking of just sticking the car up on stands and taking the existing ones off to do. dome, LightBulbFun, Twiggy and 2 others

gm
I'm not sure how you are fixed tyres but I just happened across this very good price for track day rubber https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=M9MCowzeaevnJhp5.110.297965637&sowigan=So&Breite=195&Quer=50&Felge=15&Speed=&kategorie=6&Marke=Uniroyal&tyre_for=&x_tyre_for=&Herst=Uniroyal&m_s=3&Ang_pro_Seite=50&weiter=50&rsmFahrzeugart=ALL&Label=E-B-71-2&details=Ordern&typ=R-394575   xl is the one with the firmer side wall, designed for heavier cars but I have these on mine and find them to be brilliant on track (although comedy in pissing rain, like we had last night on the way to sainsburys, so much sideways)  The Moog

The Moog
Finished the upper arms yesterday Gave them all another coat of paint And let them dry. Gone from thisto thisIf I had the ability a sandblaster would have made short work of the rust and is probably a quicker way to clean up the arms. My new* brake stopper arrived yesterday. Was cheapish on eBay so couldn't not get it.I thought it was blue in the photo but reality is that it was quite manky Wire wool plus Dremel reduces the rust Then couple of coats of chassis paint and looks goodNeed to get some lower arms now and some grease for the poly bushes. Stanky
Good work, thats well worth knowing re the deox-c stuff - looks to have cleaned the rust right up on theose suspension arms. What do you do with the contents of the bath once you're done de-rusting the parts? Can it just go down the drain or does it need disposing of by a team of men in hazmat suits? What is the brake stopper? What does it do? excuse my ignorance!

The solution is to create a brace for the brake master cylinder. There are different options this one triangulates on to the chassis - it also means a front strut brace can be fitted as doesn't use the suspension mounts They are normally north of £60 so this one at £20 was fairly bargainous. Stanky
Ah yeah I see - is it a feature of mk1 MX5's from new, or does the bulkhead flex get worse with age? The Moog
The Moog
Like that from factory I think - you can actually see the firewall flex. Which when you are doing multiple 80-20 stops on a track can feel very odd.

The Moog
The 205 has returned to base yesterday. In the brief time before the heavens open I fixed the few issues that I knew it had. First up new indicators have been procured . The side mounting point for the passenger headlight had snapped so the headlight was insecure. Funky non gingercators were the cheapest option for £18 deliveredYou can see the mounting point snappageSomeone had been in there before as connector had been replaced by spade connectorsAfter a bit of fiddling it is all back secureA lack of tootage was dealt with next with a Mondeo horn donated by Mr Monkey - all tested then butt connectors appliedTo mount it, I used a bolt hole a bit further down. The indicators are a bit dicky - googlefu says it is often linked to the hazard switch. Pulled the fascia off and cleaned it outThat seems to have sorted that issue. Whilst there I had a probe of the dodgy heater control. When I pulled off the front this fell outI think it is the metal contact that sits behind the plastic wheel and completes the circuitLooking on eBay they are about £40 so once it has an MOT then I will change that out. So as it stands with its new front faceLeft to fit are front discs and pads plus book MOT. Bucketeer
Blimey, you've had a productive day. Since I left this morning you've gravelled the drive and fixed half a dozen things on the Peugeot. Bravo. The Moog
The Moog
Procrastination kicked in so rather doing my assignment the call of the 205 was heard. The blower issue was on my mind. Taking the plastic dial off the front I could see where that metal bit fell off from. It is a copper spring which pushes on the metal element thus making blower workCleaned up and a smear of Vaseline to hold the metal bit in place and reassembled. This worked we but I kept trying to optimise it It seems to be happy now and blows merrily although sometimes it isn't quite on full power. Next up was handbrake warning light. It didn't come on with handbrake so would fail MOT. Start with easy job first - handbrake cover off and get the switch cleaned up and tested and it seems fineThe issue was that the connector fitted under a metal cannopy I couldn't get at. Macgyver time and some flex was used to extend the connector to the switch. Then another piece of wire was used to fish it up and then crimped togetherThat didn't fix it so next was brake master cylinder switch . That worked fine so left one culprit - dash bulb. What a battle as the steering wheel has to come off and binnacle out. Just for this buggerSwapped it with a known one and Current state of playI am going to swap them all before putting it back - but have no more bulbs - trip to Halfords tomorrow I think. The Moog
Putting my tools away I found a set of door locks I had bought for the pug. Seeing as Bucketeer had spent quite a long time pretending to lock the car to throw off any burglars I thought I may as well fit them rather than watching the voice. Interior door just pops off and get to the gubbinsPull off the metal retaining lug and out pops the barrelNew one fitted and clipped back inAll back togetherBoth sides done so it is lockable now. Also found the battery is loose so need to secure that for MOT man. scdan4, theshadow, Shirley Knott and 4 others
