What struck me the most, and @davidfowler2000 s pics confirm this is the bias towards the early 2000's in terms of (Road going) chod!

My car, the 306, 2 of the mx5's, beetle, @bub2006s van, grahams's 206 c15...all 2000 to 2003. Even the van gave a valiant cough at bringing early 2005 to the proceedings

Do we feel dirty or celebrate this fact*?

Hopefully we celebrate because apart from the '73 DS our other cars are a W reg Pug 206, a W reg Saab 9-5 estate and an 02 reg Saab 9-3 floppytop.

Who needs cars that are less than 20 years old?

@DSdriver Do you have a picture of your DS at the FoD please as it seems to be the one car I missed with my photos.

  • Six-cylinder changed the title to Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Is the weekend 10th 11th July too early for another FoD open weekend?
Posted

I thought given the reduced activity this year finding FoD dates would be easy but it seems not.

Now we are thinking about 10th - 11th July?

We have accepted a BBQ invitation that Saturday night so will have to be absent that evening. All weekends in July have something going on.

It'll be tricky for sure. G Rally that weekend, but it's such a trek that I'm not sure I'll be going.

Excuse the noob question - from what I can gather, FoD events are run out of the kindness of Mr @Six-cylinder and one rocks up, gets to chat and admire a variety of chod whilst repaying in the form of labour on whatever projects are ongoing? If so, sounds fantastic!

Yes. Mr and Mrs 6 cylinder are great hosts. Basically shooting the breeze with likeminded folk. Lots of old cars and usually a chippy tea.

@N19 yes the FoD is a good meet up for rammel fettling or just a chin-wag with a cuppa or a beer.

The new dates don't work for me sadly as I've got 3 family birthday bashes that weekend.

I’ve referred to it before as a sort men’s therapy group. ( women allowed too obvs. Or we wouldn’t get @Mrs6C s cider and plant contributions ). I may* be able to make a July meet. Bad news today has probably nixed all weekend plans until then though. My 2nd vaccination is due on the 4th July so should be ok the following week.

10th and 11th? Fuck it put me down for that.

A glutton for punishment then! It’s a fair old trip for you.

That weekend is about the only one in July I have free between some other shows and such. I'll come down for that work permitting.

I was so in awe of everything that was going on that I completely forgot to take any pictures. Fortunately the car was papped just as we were shooting off early because I was knackered after the drive up. MrsDSdriver enjoyed meeting everyone as well, and we had a lovely long chat with MrsSixCylinder. MrsDS also said it is not often you get the opportunity to shoo lambs to the right side of the fence on your way to the lavvy.

I'm away so can't scribble on or even look at my calendar but it's possible, I'll make every effort to come if it is possible.

Hotel booked for the 10th. Premier Inn currently running approx £37

Not camping?  Camping = not having to drive = ability to drink beer = ridiculous campfire chats until well gone midnight = Win.

Staying in a Hotel = having to leave at a sensible hour while stone-cold sober.  Granted it does also mean cooked breakfast, but if there's enough people in the FoD, that could be arranged.

Buckingham is within easy cycling distance of the FOD mind.  Not that I'm advocating cycling whilst pissed obvs.

I will make one of these at some point... doesn't look like it'll be this one :(

I do not do tenting. I will do camping when I get my tiny caravan... next year. I could bring the 740 but I've booked the hotel again on the off chance I'm more confident in the 205 this time. Hotel is refundable too.

I would quite like to attend one of these shindigs, and I will the absolute moment the RAV4 is welded with an MOT.

Which will take me in to the next Lockdown really.

I've nudged Mr Sparrow to see whether the Dyane will be ready.  He is not hopeful 😐

@Talbot: maybe we can talk more about your suggestion...

Meh.  Seeing you turn up at the FOD in a proper car would be almost as much of a mindf*ck as seeing AnthonyG in not-a-Jag.  😜
