cos its literal scrap. cars worth 500 quid when done and needs 700 in repairs. its uneconmic to repair and it has a fanbase as big as a mouses nadger. ad in whatever it needs for MOT plus some Tax and youve sank 1k into a 500 quid turd.

If it does get weighed in, I’d like as many reusable parts as possible that’ll fit a 1989 example removed from it and sent to me. Gratis, ideally.

A friend of my dads bought a mk1 escort estate in the late 70s for £10 as his first car and still has it today,

it’s his daily driver and apparently the only car he’s ever owned, although there is a rumour he has another mk1 escort estate in his garage that he was given years ago as a “spare car”

Sorry this is a bike which came up on my ebay as "you may be interested in this", why would I be interested in buying a bike from Australia?

Anyway the description says

Good condition for age, a few scuffs, had a hairline crack in the frame a couple of years ago. i fixed with expoxy resin and carbon fibre , looks a little shabby but had no issues since, no flex in frame. see photo

So a carbon fibre frame you've "fixed" with some Araldite is "good condition"

"a little worse for wear"

Oh, I don't know... I think the vendor's being a smidge harsh in his appraisal of his fine steed.

Quote

"she has her original chassis plate"

"I could potentially arrange postage if required ;)"

Ah. I see what's happening...

Yeah. Someone's mini is going missing.

Y'know I wonder if it's worth starting a thread/database of these ringing kits and reporting them once they go back on the road

Various other forums have "ringer watch" threads, certainly Pistonheads:

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1049731&p=143

But surely if the authorities saw it as a massive issue there would be a public administered report-a-ringer website?

Ebay's policies say no ringing kits but they absolutely do not give a shit.

Used to report them but none ever got removed.

They are getting their fees so they don't care.

What did you have in mind? Several people came to strip out bits and paid good money so the assumption that the fanbase for R19s is tiny was wrong - just a RT auto which is not popular it would appear. A gent travelled from Berkshire to remove the gearbox for £200. Doubleyeller did then cut the roof off with an angle grinder and hacksaw! That sold for £100 to a guy who travelled from Hampshire......

And we weighed in the rest for £50

Total made was therefore approx £550

Verdict: breaking cars = well worth it!

Doublyeller is rolling but still has lights, parcel shelf, tailgate, wiper motors + linkages, door cards...and handles + switches.

Shame about the sunroof (and the rampant corrosion) as that would be my ideal spec Mini.

"It's a lovely car"

Funny thing - people leave a car to rot - then get all misty-eyed when it comes time to sell.

It's also being gently touted as a ringing kit at the same time, nudge nudge wink wink say no more...is your car a ringer...eh...does she go...eh

I hate these wanky "pickup conversions" they all look shit and just guarantee that the current owner will be the last before the bridge.

Pretty sure 1250 would get you a normal 407 coupe, never mind one with the boot replaced with plywood that doesn't even run ffs.

Look how waterproof it isn't, just imagine how bad the interior smells with all the rainwater soaked into it.
