Bren Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 Just what you need on the way home from a nightshift - the sound of your rear silencer being dragged over tarmac. Completely gone around the weld. I had to wrestle it off the rubbers - fortunately I managed to get it off without lying down. It's a good job I stopped when I did - it had jammed against the road and rear bumper. This mondeo is going out of it's way to make me dislike it intensely. Remspoor 1
MVX11V Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 Lucky you got to remove it though as I recall the mondeo was a little famous for dropping it's backbox and then shoving it through the explosive back bumper plastic when it caught the next bit of raised tarmac. Good catch.

vulgalour Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 Rebuilding the Princess head is reminding me why I hate working on engines. It's all just such a tedious chore. I've got the carbon wire wheeled off the valves and am trying to work up the motivation to lap the valves in. I'll do it, I have to, I just don't want to. If engine work brings you joy, more power to you, I much prefer doing the bodywork and upholstery stuff. chaseracer 1

In this case her perfume was barely discernible but enough to cause problems. Womens fragrances are not much of a problem unless overdone, it is male pongy stuff that is the killer, especially Lynx. Apparently it is aldehydes that I am allergic to. There were a couple of times it started at work and there was no smell at all. It was a secretary had come into the factory to speak to someone, the entrance was out of sight, as was the person she was speaking to and they were fifty yards from me in a very large building. No idea what she was wearing but it was silent and deadly.

No idea what they were promoting. Likewise with the dreadful music. Not going around wearing headphones and looking like a dick. I had a colleague who filled our office with the smell of garlic. Turned out his wife was following a recipe and thought a clove was the whole thing. Used 4 apparently . Thankfully temporary. maxxo Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 So you remember last weekend I replaced the intruder alarm panel at my parents house and got the system working properly again? got a text today to say the alarm went off…. zone 1014, which is the 30 odd year old shock sensor on one of the bedroom windows rang my dad and asked out of curiosity had he checked it? No anyway lo and behold it wasn’t a false alarm turns out their next door neighbour was getting scaffolding put up and they’ve smashed a pole through the window somehow so that’s me down their house next week waiting for a glazier to come and sort it nomiST, beko1987, Remspoor and 1 other 2 2

sdkrc Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 I'd like to use this post to warn others about Chargeplace Scotland. 10mins to login to their app, £160 in pre authorised charges and 0% of my battery charged because 2 separate charge points in different locations didn't work. Left me up shit creek twice in 24hrs and I only used them because there were no other options. What an embarrassing scam of a company. comfortablynumb, loserone and myglaren 2 1

I was in Hungary and it was 38°. The rest of the phone worked but on camera it just said it was too hot and would shut down in three seconds. I had to wave it around for a couple of minutes to get it to work again.
autopaul Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 After being unable to drive since the start of December due to a dislocated shoulder that now has became very unstable (a little like myself). I took the car out for a quick drive. Noticed it was pulling to the left, apparently the other half hasn't noticed this. Low and behold 7psi in the nsf, pumped it up and yes back to 7psi over night. Whipped the wheel off to check for puncture, with crossed fingers that it would be repairable..... Culprit found, I suspect with air in the tyre it'll have a nice little bulge there too. 😔 beko1987, comfortablynumb, eddyramrod and 3 others 6

We stopped 4 times to pump it up, slowly getting home (I'd driven out to her and child) before we realised that as long as she didn't stop and kept moving the crack stayed airtight... It was flat by the time she pulled up at home but we didn't care by then. ASM netted 4 replacement vectra alloys for our Zafira b with better tyres than the Zafira had on it for cheaper than a used penta (special fancyalloys it wore) and that did the job

But I've just picked a set of Audi A5 alloys up for £200 to pop on the car for now. It's a Scirocco with the turbine wheels on, which seem to hold their money. I'll run the A5 wheels for now and decide on what to do with the turbines. I might keep 1 set as winter wheels and get some cheap winter tyres fitted. Not sure the 5 spokes will suit the Scirocco. beko1987 1
Pat Earrings Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 Driving the Ampera on electric only and realise the other day I had no heat in the cabin. Works on hybrid mode so, the electric auxiliary water pump is dead 🥲 not a hard job at all, but I can only find it from RockAuto in the USA. Annoying as other than that it’s been brilliant. Jazoli 1
Rust Collector Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 More a grump at the work I’ve caused myself; I definitely won’t be parking on the lawn again. Probably. I didn’t take a before picture because I’m an idiot. Imagine a Land Rover sized patch of bare earth: Last time I was laying turf at this house (when the back garden tried to swallow an SLK like Artax in The Swamp of Sadness), my mate who owned the Disco was still alive and helping me. I did it on my own this time, but remembered what he taught me at least. I missed him though. The digging was the worst part, I’m too fat and unfit so I felt like I was going to vomit as I took the top off the old stuff. It stands out a bit at present, and in an ideal world I’d have done the whole thing and levelled the it entirely as the lawn already had a lot of undulation, but for less than £100 it’ll do for now. After a season of growing/cutting it’ll all blend , like it does at the back of the house now. I imagine I’ll dig it up before the next mud season, and lay something that gives a bit more room for manoeuvring. On a not grumpy front, a lot of my neighbours stopped for a chat whilst I was working. They were all quite friendly, so it’s good to see I haven’t fucked off everyone to the point of open hostility. I now can’t* wait to clean out the boot of the XM after lugging the turf: loserone, GrumpiusMaximus, Popsicle and 4 others 7
jakebullet Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 Been tidying up spare room to make space for 3D printer to go. Along comes Ma interfering and announces "we're going to have a sideation". This is one of her made up words that means we're going to throw away anything that belongs to you and keep all the shite that belongs to me. So my stuff like the mint spare set of capri door cards is for the bin. Er, no. Things she wants to save include: Half a tin of paint. What if the kitchen needs touching up? Er, we'd have to take the tiles off the wall first. 2 square foot of random carpet. Half a roll of wallpaper. Plastic plant pots. So many empty cardboard boxes. I try being diplomatic. Go and watch for delivery van coming. Have a cup of tea while I finish up. No chance she wants to rake thru the good stuff pile and try to destroy as much as possible. Bonus of helping* by moving the door. The one the pool ball stack is resting against. There's a lot of balls when the stack is 5 foot high and 3 foot square.
