Did you take the second hand door off, or was it already removed from the wreck?

The door was already pre removed. But I'd seen the scrap car prior to removal and the door fitted fine.

I picked up some parts yesterday from a couple in Congleton , they had a lovely big 1930s semi with the original steel framed bay windows in it , it looked lovely

I commented you don't see original windows like that often

No but they're knackered , rotted, only we don't know what to do about them, we've had a quote to replace them but because of the curved glass at the sides they have to be made specially from scratch £18,000 , at first I thought he said £1800, £900 each but no it was £18,000

If the glass is ok a decent joiner can make a nice new frame for it, or in this case a fabricator(only originality freaks with bottomless chequebooks need speak to Crittall, but be sitting down when doing so); £18000 is telephone numbers, presumably this is the fancy doubleglazing replacement stuff, which is fine for Grand Designs types but for normal folk it's a bit rich.

1. Woken up by my 1yr old son having a big scream for no reason at 5.30am.

- No bother

2. My 14yr old cat who pisses on the front door twice a week has been at it. Takes 15mins to clean up with bleach and he doesn't accept any personal responsibility.

- OK.

3. Turns out he's pissed on the wall in my bathroom too.

- Bastard.

4. Taking the bins out barefoot and I stand on a wasp.

- fuck

5. DVLA have taken tax from my account despite SORNing the car over 10days ago. I look forward to maybe getting a cheque in 2 months if they feel like it

- useless bastards

6. What I thought was man flu might be more. Horrible persistent cough, no sense of smell and slightly shallow breathing. Ordered home test kits to play it safe since MiL is high risk and currently has lung cancer.

Stick at it, I was on 40-50 roll ups a day before Xmas,I got a half decent vape and some nic.salt based juice (stronger without the harshness) and I haven't had a tab since January.

I was on 30 a day until 5 years ago.........started vaping, never sparked up since. Menthol flavoured ones suit me best, although I never smoked a Consulate [cool as a mountain stream, for oldies who can remember fags being advertised on the telly] in my life.

As for vaping kit, try "Blu" products.......most reliable I've found.

Menthol fags have gone AWOL.    https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/20/menthol-smokers-tell-us-what-going-now-banned-uk-12702808/

^^Arse. Thoughts with you and yours mate.

But if for example you keep your job and can now work from home you can afford to pay more.

My season ticket was over £4k a year so I would be able to afford a bigger mortgage, especially at the very low interest rates. Add in the Stamp Duty holiday until next March means that now would be the time to buy something bigger/better.

I think the job landscape will change, employers will soon cotton on they don’t have to pay people as much if it’s a job where you can work at home.

Posted

It depends on the availability of staff, if there's a shortage then you have to be competitive irrespective of their personal costs.

The employer is also saving on office costs, which can be considerable.

Trying to reduce someone's salary is very difficult in my experience, as I found out when my main base was changed to an out of London site.

The more rapacious employers (or rather their HR and accounts departments) certainly will.

Still, if employers pretend to pay their employees, then it may well be that said employees pretend to work. Or, as might* become common practice, "shirk from home".

Does anyone else get a bit weird when you can't drive your sheds for a while? I've not been able to go for a drive at all (other than taking what I call a scenic route back from work) in 2 weeks, and haven't driven my FSO in about 3 weeks, and that kinda put me on edge. I think I'm really feeling now that winter is coming and my cars will have to go in storage till spring again so I'm feeling a lot of pressure to drive them.

I'm also kinda annoyed with myself for buying a nice Polonez. I wanted one partially because I was craving a shed I could rock all year round, but now that I've bought a really well preserved one it'd be a real shame to ruin it.

Weather better fucking improve soon cause I'm not mentally ready to give up my shit cars for the year quite yet.

Also, in other news, I've been denied a raise I thought was pretty much guaranteed, so that's pretty damn annoying.

surely the (autoshite) solution to that problem is simply buy another scruffier Polonez for year round usage, and you can temporarily rob it for bits if the nice one breaks! :)

That's always a bit of a conundrum, innit. Does one get more shite that's in good nick to enjoy during good weather, or is it better to double up on some cars by having both good and sheddy examples.

I think I'm currently leaning towards saving up for a Wartburg 353 or a nice Żuk rather than getting a 2nd Polonez. Unless I find one that really wins me over for some reason, obviously.

People that call their cars a "track slag" (or "track weapon", even worse).

Universally means it's a shit BMW/MX5 that they have lowered, taken the interior out of, put tow straps on, and probably a host of other modifications which don't make it  go any faster but destroy the resale value.

Cnuts.

My bank are pissing me off. I went paperless a while back. I now need an actual printed statement for ID purposes. I asked them on live chat and was told they’d send one out. Two weeks passed, no statement. So I called them, the woman apologised and promised to send one out. Another two weeks have passed and guess what, no statement.

I’m going to call them, put in a complaint and go back to paper statements. It‘s only their money they’ll now be wasting having to post me a statement every month.

Is there no function on the app/ website to download and print a pdf version? - I was having the same issue but my solicitor confirmed a pdf was OK as ID.

Sadly my solicitor is insisting on a printed copy. Probably because they are the only people I know who still use fax machines as apparently they’re more secure than email.

I still have paper bank statements. None of this online tomfoolery.

Come to think of it, I was still using a fax machine at home until it broke down a couple of months ago. Must find a replacement.....

Tbf they're not wrong about the security thing, partly because who has a flipping fax machine now anyway

Warning.  DPD are the only company I've experienced in the last 5 months of mayhem who still insist on a signature when delivering a parcel.

I was on the phone earlier on - heard a knock on the door.  I knew it was DPD as they'd text and emailed twice in the previous 30 minutes.  I carried on the phone as all that happens with Herpes is the knock, drop and run.

Nope.  DPD disregard the lights on, the sound of me on the phone and the fact I may well be shielding and fuck off with my parcel.  Contents to the value of £8.

Cracking COVID protocol, lads.  Fucking brilliant.

TBH I don't give a flying shit, it's two inner tubes for a bike that I can't use until Sunday.  But I'm bemused they still want actual contact.

Solicitors.  Still one of the simplest, quickest and most secure ways of sending documents from point to point.  You can also use the transmission receipt in court as proof of sending.

It's the same as cassette tapes.  The biggest user of them until about 2 years ago was the police force.  It's very easy to edit and manipulate recordings on a hard drive - but almost impossible on a cassette.  Any edit (with a razor blade and tape) would be clearly visible.

Horrah for old tech.
