The grumpy thread

My friends ex husband died last night / this morning, he'd have been 42 tomorrow. He leaves behind his two kids who I've watched grow up for the past 11 and 10 years.

Been to watch the kids play football today, fell utterly gutted for his kids and our friend, after all they were married for 5 years and had two kids together.

No,you don't know anything about laptops ,  (quite true !)

I need a new one its ancient...   ( also true i suppose) and I have to do homework before next week

Prised it off her ,sure enough it wont turn on. just goes hum,  ding ding ding ..

But i can fix anything... if it saves money ...Usually..

Mum buckles,  and they go off to pc world .

They'll be gone for 1 hour....I get me screwdriver , whip off the back , following youtube instuctions :-) , oh fuck me sideways   that looks complicated inside :-( ..blow out some dust while i'm in there , and put the back on again ..lost 2 screws :-( .bollocks to that , anyway it doesn't work now ,does it ??.

Hit the ON button , and it works again . Then they arrive home with a brand new new Acer ...

At least she can get all her files off it now. Easy enough to map a drive to it from the new lappy & copy everything she wants over. Unless you have a USB stick to do it the dull sensible way.

I have no idea what you're on about... I still do vinyl and cassettes, just discovered CD's  8)   phone with buttons , and this pc is a 12 years old  xp ... Only files i use are metal ones .

It ain't a laptop you div.... it's a chromebook ! Whatever that is ... :-(

Ahh well, it's even more use you fixed the old one then. As far as I know Chromebooks don't store anything locally, so she'll need to upload her homework etc to a google drive to be able to access it on the Chromebook.

She'll work it out, kids always do.

They tried to sell her a something program , but being wise to this sort of shit she said No , i can get it free , as a Happ....or sommat like that  :-D

Chromebooks do have local storage, just not oodles of it (mine has 16GB, for example), but they usually come with a good wedge of Google drive storage foc

Fair enough, I've never actually touched one.

Why is Facebook absolutely over-run with adverts for PPI and that sort of shit today? Is there a way it can all be hidden, rather than fighting a battle against thousands by picking them off one at a time?

"We don't sell data to advertisers"

You don't or didn't?

abandon all social media and embrace autoshite. tis the only way

Anti-social-git-media, if anything.

uBlock Origin might be your solution.  Don't know.  Don't have Facebook but might block the ads.  Other adblockers can be a bit dodgy but uBlock has been doing me sterling service for a long time.

Doesn't surprise me PC World tried to flog her some software for her Chromebook (a device you can't install software on).

Anyway, yes they have local storage. Typically though you just work, and it saves it both to Google Drive and your device so you can keep working on whatever the latest version is even if you're offline.

There is some jiggery pokery involved in saving "homework" as a file format schools will understand though

Use several ad blocker add ons. I use FF so use the following.

I am no longer on FB but, when I was I used.

For all our sake, please don't connect it to the internet FFS.  Flatten it with Linux, or flatten it with a large hammer.

Call 1 done, someone from their customer care team will get back to me to 'sort this out'

There's no impact mark where the crack is, and I'm sort of hoping they've had this before being glass etc, but I have no proof that no one hasnt thrown a stone at it over the weekend...

Joy!

Got to be a shit fitter.

I think that’s what has caused the Panda screen to crack too - there’s no visible damage.

Do you not have a Screwfix card? Has a QR code on which gives them all the bollocks they need with less fucking about at the counter

They've stopped offering them to be as I pointed out I've got enough stuff to keep on me without an extra card as well and they've always just asked the postcode and account name till now which is easy.

I'm not in the right frame of mind at the moment so I apologise to all for being a bit ranty.

That’s what this thread is for!

I’m having an utter prick of a day too.

If alcohol is the answer have a virtual pint or two on me. I'm going to get some logs cut up later so I can smash things with an axe....

At a party a few years ago, my mate managed to get himself absolutely smashed before 5PM. I found him passed out on his bed. He then got up and pissed into a backpack - which belonged to one of his guests. His fiancée (surprisingly now married) came in and he turned around and pissed on her.

I remind him of it every time I see him.

Sigh... Don't get me started....

A few years ago when I lived in France, I lived with some workmates as we shared a house. One weekend we invited another colleague over to stay for the weekend.

They all got pissed on Friday evening as they usually do. I don't drink so drove them home (hence why I always had the car)

That night I was downstairs watching TV when the guest came downstairs. He was still absolutely blottoed.

He said something strange (can't remember what it was but basically he thought he was still partying) and proceeded to relieve himself in one of the food cup boards ruining all of our snacks.

As it was night and everyone was asleep I had to leave a note explaining what had happened. The next morning matey-boy pisser was quite embarrassed and was made to clean up his piss from the cupboard. He also paid for replacing the ruined food.

Apparently it wasn't the first time he'd done this. He once pissed in someones wardrobe after a house party.

Chemtrails discussions. FFS. People really will believe any old shit. "NEVA SAW THESE IN THE 80S." No, we did. You just can't remember. "THEY WERE REALLY BAD THE OTHER DAY." Yes, because of actual variety in the climate. GOOD GRIEF.
