The grumpy thread

I'm sure it might not have the highest priority, but a run up the route on a quad bike with a log behind it after ploughing would be enough to make it a clear track.

We were collared by a farmer last year as we hadn't followed the public footpath. Asked her how we were expected to follow an invisible line over a blind crest to a broken gate with a seemingly deliberately obstructed sign, and it was a moment of revelation for her - she'd never walked the path from the point of view of someone who had no prior knowledge of it's route.

As a result, she had a problem with 'trespassers', I.e. walkers who couldn't find the path and instead followed here tractor tracks.

Another day, another letter, another bill for a few hundred euros. Multicar policy for the Panda and Metro. Its not a huge sum in the grand scheme of things, but fuck me...I am trying to save money and its just a constant drain of 300 sheets here, 200 sheets there, 500 there, 100 for this etc etc.

Also in the post were the two microswitches I ordered a wee while ago. Fine, except they are too "strong" - they require too much force for the application I have, so I levered one apart, wondering if I could shorten the spring, but its not a coil, its a flappy bit of flat springy metal and it went BOING and wont go back into place so thats that fucked.

Work is two steps forwards, three steps back with everything going to shit and jobs piling up.

The centuries-old rant of tradesmen just not fucking bothering to even turn up.

Im tired. Just really fucking tired all the time - I know this heat isnt helping but fucking hell my energy levels are through the floor.

Want another car to replace the MGF. Need* a car to replace the MGF. Have pennies saved....fucking nothing interesting for sale anywhere. I just dont know what I want. Wouldnt say no to a P38 but its too much of a risk to buy one blind and everything local is dogshit. Would take a mid-sized estate car, but nothing takes my fancy. Cant be a project, needs to be reliable and usable but increasingly I find myself looking at the danger-ground of 8+ year old cars for sale for 4k or so....right at the point in their lives where expensive shit might go wrong. Im just not willing to take that kind of risk, so its back to sub 1.5k shitters and its fucking grim pickings tbh.

dunno.

Does it cost a packet to visit the Drs in France? If not probably worth going and describing your symptoms?

Otherwise amphetamines for breakfast?

What the actual fuck are the DVLA up to? I have completed the online change of address form twice now. I have a medical marker against my license, so the medical team have to deal with it.

They have yet again sent my driving license to my old address. Second time in 4 weeks. Yet they send any other correspondence to my new address.

Bunch of useless fucking idiots.

Just got home from work to find "abandoned vehicle" stickers on the Rover of Doom, Jag and ex-Bramz 205.  WTactualF?  All three are taxed, MOT'd, insured and in regular use, so in what fucking parallel universe can they be considered as abandoned?

I have obviously fired off an email to the environmental protection dept at the Council, but what the hell is going on?  If anyone can report any vehicle as abandoned for any reason then we're all fucked.

I'd try and get those stickers off ASAP if you can. They make an otherwise good car an instant vandal target.

IIRC spray the stickers with WD-40 to dissolve the glue.

I think so, neighbours a few doors up did it to my barbers very nice e30 bmw which he hadn't moved for about 5 days due to a puncture

They can be bought off eBay...so I wonder if someone is making an attempt at passive aggression?

Trying to claim pension online.

Verification process requires me to download some shite onto my not-very-smart phone.

Gave up then but phoning the buggers could take forever.

New 80kph speed limit icamen France into force yesterday. Most road users seem to be sticking to it. No sign of rozzers enforcing it around here, but loads of warnings of speed traps up near Caen on the radio. I guess they'll be targeting the hot spots first.

Bloody pain to stick to 80, seems so slow...

The van can pull 80 ok in top but the XM is off boost at 80kph making overtakes a change down jobbie. First world prob etc. .

Sounds like curtain twitchers in action, resentful neighbours, etc. What a ballache.

Nope - definitely gen-you-whine council, and duplicates hand-delivered through my letterbox as well.  They weren't generic "abandoned vehicle" notices, they were letters printed on Council headed paper, laminated and taped to the cars.

I'm pretty sure I know which neighbour it is, and if the council does tell me to move them from where they are, they are going to end up parked in a neat little nose-to-tail line right outside his house.  With motion-activated dashcams on full alert in case he tries anything silly.

Tell the council you wish to make a full written complaint about their harassment of you and victimisation, that should concentrate their minds. Make sure you get full names and keep a log of who you speak to as this isn't the first time is it?

It isn't, but in the past it's been kind of justifiable - the cars which have been reported before have been out of either tax or test, or sometimes both.  This is the first time the cars reported have been fully legal and in semi-daily, or at least regular (Jag) use.

Plus the chances of getting the council to confirm who it was are pretty much zilch due to OMGGDPR.

I'm also curious as to why the Perodua didn't get ticketed - it's registered to me and is parked right next to the 205.  Maybe because it's "modern".

I'm now wondering whether the Carina had been reported as well, and only missed out on a ticket because I drove it to work today.

Lada throttle has been notchy because of the bodged throttle linkage since the EFi upgrade.

Fixed the linkage properly this morning.

Took it out this afternoon.

Throttle cable snapped.  FFS!

I havent been to a doctors since 1993 and I dont intend to change that.

Oh, no, I went to a docs with suspected broken ribs about 8 years ago and was told to take some pain killers and it will get better. Since this is my own diagnosis for pretty much everything, I now consider myself as qualified as a proper doctor.

On a brighter note, I can confirm that WD40 does indeed remove parcel tape residue, even when said tape has been baking in the sun all afternoon.

My friend had the ‘sticker from the council’ on a 2007 Ford Focus just last month!!1! It hadn’t moved for about a fortnight - all taxed, insured and MOT etc.

Baffling.

I was out in the 205 for most of the day yesterday.  It'd been stationary for less than 24 hours when it got the ticket on it.  Rover last moved on Saturday and Jag on Wednesday.

I think we did the abandoned vehicles thing in a thread about a Triumph Vitesse a while ago - essentially if the council receive a complaint they have to investigate and as under environmental law a car can still be abandoned with tax and test, the easiest way is to stick a notice on it and see what happens. There's a link to a legal website explaining the process I can dig out, but essentially if you reply saying 'taxed and tested, used regularly, if you are acting on a report from my neighbour Mr Smith then I'd be grateful if you could let him know this' then there's nothing they can do and hopefully they'll read between the lines and ignore any future reports from him.

Buy some from ebay and stick one on his car, if indeed he actually has one.

If not, stick it on his front door.

A grump on behalf of the Tesco delivery driver sat in the passenger seat of his van with his head in his hands and a very miserable look on his face.

His van had obviously run up the arse of something similarly sized.

Or acquire a scrapper and cover the bastard in gallons of wd40, then sit back and watch them try to put a sticker on it.

I really don't like Monday .

Took the e46 330d for MOT, failed on handbrake, fair enough, I'll try and adjust it following advice from YouTube experts*.

Too much hassle finding trolley Jack etc , so get tame mobile mechanic to do it- tomorrow.

Went and did a job in the Volvo, on the way back from the airport , I have a FTP, now we've all seen pictures of the V70 on an RAC recovery wagon .

This time it's worse, my phone memory was full and the limited pictures I took won't go across ,yet.

But if anyone was caught in the traffic jam when the A4146 was closed for the whole of rush hour or saw the Police helicopter spotting the direction of the bush fire, then there might be a clue.
