FJ won't swap the 405 insurance for an R19. Not classic. Think they just hate Renault's.

Oh well. Sure something else will come up

Tell them to GTF and hire one somewhere else?

Ordinarily I would, but they're the only ones about locally with the size of skip needed for the job :(

Driving down bypass back towards Rawtenstall, had to clap on for a woman in outside lane, cutting across my lane into a NO ENTRY for the Mcdonalds Exit.  Then on the way home over the moors, a pickup pulls out blind as I am in an NSL zone going up the road due to an LR pulling over.

Friday 13th... I'm done.

It's been a day of utter fucknuggettary on the roads around here too.

On my way home from work. Some massive dong in an 05 Astra overtook me on the hatchings after a merge in section, forcing me to brake. He then shot off with a bloody spacesaver on the rear offside before turning off towards Thetford and aggressively tailgating the car in front for a split second before overtaking into the face of oncoming traffic. It was a dreadful bit of driving, like something out of those Traffic Cops documentaries.

My friends wife committed suicide yesterday by driving at speed into a bridge support. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.

what a fuckin' day.

first, go and collect the prescription waiting for me, happy tablets and a ventolin (blue coloured) inhaler.

finally get it after the pharmacist has "checked" it and spent 20 minutes explaining to Betty Linus that she could order repeat prescriptions over the internet or something (Betty is 84....so i can see that happening!!.) i get it. Happy tablets and Clennill (brown, very very brown) inhaler, thank you very much.....

go to Wilco Autosave, say i want a front indicator bulb and rear tail light bulb for a Rover 75. get presented with an orange grain of wheat thing and a full sized bayonet bulb. get home, and these are both completely wrong, even though me-laddo had looked them un in the parts book catalogue thing. so, take the old, blown bulbs out of their respective holders, put the car back together and drive back to the shop. at least with the old bulbs there, i finally get the right ones.

at last, with the car now working, i find that one of the bulbs which earlier in the week had blown, is now working fine following a swift thump on the light itself. i guess i have a loose wire in there somewhere. but i do find that while i can get the back light thing back on to its mounting clips i dropped one of the screws down inside the back bumper while trying to put it back on.

having given the bumper a good slap, i resort to giving it a bit of a kicking  instead.

kerry says "well that won't do it any good....." just as the lost screw fell out.... (apparently it DID do it some good afterall)

i mean, i speak the english, i speak it really good (like a fuckin' native even) so why cannot people get simple requests right??

is it that hard? is it that unreasonable?

TL:DR fucking idiots......

oh and it seems that the little gay jeep is indeed about to go to the scrap yard in the sky.

it has taken to burping the water in the radiator while running, so i thing that the car has OMGHGF and been worth the square root of sod all, i don't think it will be getting fixed.

Sorry to hear that dude. I can't even begin to imagine what I could say to one of my friends in that situation.  :-(

Not much I could say really. Just reminding him that am there if needed.

Where I worked in my youth the compressors got lost for a while. Changed an Escort strut with the spring bound in welding wire.

HSE, pah!

Posted

Pop a jack under the bottom of the strut

Undo top nut whilst strut still on the car

Lower jack then unbolt strut from the hub

Simples...

I wouldn't recommend getting a jammer on a mobile vehicle....

In other news, I just got off the phone to my mum. When she was returning to Scotland from Colchester a few weeks back her 2014 Fiat Panda 4x4 broke down. The rear differential basically destroyed itself. It has only done 28k and she now faces a bill upwards of £1500 for it. I said to her she may as well complain to both Fiat and Arnold Clarke about it, but equally knowing the latters reputation, suspect they will do nothing.

Literally the last thing she needed. She's been walking to work every day since due to this (5 miles return and she's approaching 60), and can't take my 90 year old Gran anywhere. I'd have lent her a car if she didn't live 500 miles away.

I have a car your mum can borrow, I'm sure it will be just as good as the Panda was at off roading.

I'd offer to lend the tata but it might be off to a new home shortly.

Can’t seem to sleep for more than about 3 hours at a time unless I pass out from exhaustion. Which isn’t practical at all. Some of you might have noticed I was struggling to stay awake towards the end of the day at the Electric Railway Museum...

No matter what time I go to bed, how tired I am or anything, nope just can’t sleep. If I feel like I’m going to then I take advantage but then I wake up and I’m stuck awake for an age.

Doesn’t help that my mum can’t get her head around it and keeps telling me to stay up, a) shut up I’m trying to sleep) and B) if I did I’d probably pass out at lunchtime and wake up at 8:30pm.

Also doesn’t help that my bed is next to the wall, the other side of which has the shower/bath on it. My mum showers at 6am...

If you can, move your bed.  Even more importantly, see your GP - this shouldn't be happening at your age without some underlying reason.

Clean the contacts on the bulb holder and spray some switch cleaner around in there. EssDeeWon had similar problems with one of the lights on his 75.

I've found that reading books tires me right out. Looking at screens should be avoided in the hour before bed. Not that I observe that one very well...

Aye, mental tiredness is more important than physical tiredness for good sleep. So something that uses your brain is a better plan to help.

Drinking too much caffeine?

my early dart from work was met with a flat battery , an hours wait for a jump start , why dont battery makers improve the shite date code into something that can be read !!!

My grump is that stuff like this happens. There's no explaining or justifying it, it's just horribly unfair on everyone involved (not least the poor person desperate enough to end their own life).

It does really put all the other trivial nonsense into perspective.

I think that also, reading a good story leaves your brain mulling over the storyline, which distracts it from stressful aspects of real life. I'm sleeping badly at the moment (keep waking up at 4am) so maybe I need to read my own medicine...

Popped down to farnborough first thing as I wanted to go to decathlon there to ask about my noisy headset on the new bike. Dozy guy was a little clueless to be honest, took me several attempts to convince him I had a rockrider 580 not a 560, and I think if I do need to take the bike in I'll drive to reading instead.

Anyway, I also had to pay in a chq at NatWest and so headed off to fine one. I've not been to farnborough before and to be honest won't try a second attempt. It makes Bracknell look cosmopolitan and sophisticated, which is not something anyone who has been to Bracknell would think possible.

Getting back to the car I noticed something on the side window. Turned out to be a business card from "Simons vehicle sales " buying and selling all makes.....https://www.autotrader.co.uk/services/car-dealers/uk/south-east/hampshire/aldershot/simons-vehicle-sales-aldershot-dpp-702822

The one positive was a nice lady in an older scenic who stopped while I was queueing at the machine to give me her old pay and display ticket with 50mins left.

Went to sainsburys at Westwood in Broadstairs this morning. On the way I detoured to Ramsgate railway staition to pick up a new season ticket.

Pretty normal Sunday really especially with the nice weather and all.

Anyhoo, on the journey I and other vehicles were forced into beaking rather sharply at the approach to a mini roundabout as what I can only describe as an honest to god zombie decided to shuffle across the centre of the roundabout without a care in the world.

After the demented mollusc had crossed over I and the other drivers spent about ten seconds staring at each other trying to process what we had seen........

It may not have been an actual zombie but it sure looked like one.

@PBK - hard man, that's hard.

Apparently there's a shitty storm heading our way tomorrow...

I'm on sodding standby tomorrow night!

Hope it doesn't cause too much power related issues in my area. Fingers crossed it'll miss the south coast.

I think you are okay Dan. It appears to be heading for the North west.

Reading in bed doesn't help, I bough an Escort manual, only got to page 4 of 'readers wives' and I'm more awake than ever.
