My half-formed plan was change the insurance over to the polo again, then get classic insurance for the 205. Possibly not really going to work, I'll have to do it the old fashioned way with telephones and whatnot I think.

Are Adrian Flux the good ones or the crap ones?

ah right! Flux get mixed reports-I've never used them

I just had a car accident too. I was on my way to the motor factors to buy parts for a p38 rangie I'm fixing next week and a post office van pulled out from the kerb as I passed it, straight into the passenger wing and all the way down the side of the car.

I'm annoyed because I hate accident bullshit and dealing with insurance, less so because royal mail have already accepted liability and also because I was driving the focus which doesn't matter. It's still a pain though.

I almost collected two very silly secondary school girls who looked the wrong way on the nearside of what is effectively 30mph dual carriageway. The lights at a wide crossroads had just gone green in my favour, were definitely red for them where they were standing along with others on the opposite side of the side road, I didn't pull a traffic light GP and they almost walked right into my front wing, so I would have been doing 15-20 mph.

It's a popular junction for both cars and peds, so the chances that they didn't know where the traffic was coming from were slim to say the least

Blimey Dave, hope he's okay. Bikes are replaceable, bodies less so. One of my greatest fears was my wife or son being hurt on one of the bikes. Hope he gets well soon.

My insurance brokers are twats. I had to ring them to report the incident, made it very clear that I wasn't making a claim off them and had already settled with Royal Mail who are sending an assesor out with a view to cat D and retain salvage on the focus.

Three different credit hire/accident specialists* have rung this afternoon offering hire cars, no cost repairs and full claim management service. All of them had the details I'd given the broker. FFS. One of them even suggested that I "might" be injured and not know it yet.

GAH.

I bet I get weeks of this.

Having to have a night out in the lorry, wanted to use my food voucher at the Mexican burrito place, but not accepted. I can either Burger King or Motos own burger place.

The website says eat in or take out "what ever you wish"...

Mr Polski on the till says "nope, no take out"

Fine, I'll eat inside and leave my phone and iPad in the cab. The food arrives on a tray, the burger is in a brown paper bag, the chips in a noncey basket, the side of corn in a bowl.

I'm no Heston Blumenthal, but put the fucking chips in another brown bag and I can take out!!!

There's a nice trail of deisel from somewhere in high wycombe to my house thanks to the bodged leak off pipe coming off. Thought I could smell it whilst queuing. Best go check the cars not on fire in a bit, it was smoking off the block nicely when I parked up. Had best fit the new pipes I have in the car and have had for 3 weeks!

The tappety sound is a bit louder too. That's Sunday mornings jobs sorted then when my dad leaves.

I know, I'm very very sorry. But I only noticed 3 miles from home, and that was on an unclassified twisty b road, so no chance of stopping to repair it. I presume it was leaking before that though.

Glad to hear your lad isn't too bad Dave. If my experience of crashing bikes is anything to go by, he'll ache a lot more tomorrow.

Could this be any more bloody useless? A heads up on why you couldn't quote maybe? If it's the fact I'm 20, fine, but if it's something else I can change, it'd be really useful to know.

What colour is this then? Is it a silver wing off a Seat Leon in half decent Nick for not much coin from a Birmingham breaker? Why yes it is!

Was I in Liverpool for the last few days and capable of swinging by Brum on the way back? Why, yes I was!

Did a call to confirm it was still in stock confirm that yes they did still have it? Yes indeed they did!

So when I turned up and they brought out a dark gunmetal grey wing, was I confused? Indeed. Apparently "we took that photo on a sunny day". What a load of bollocks and a waste of fucking time. And I got caught in Brum traffic and then again in London traffic (not to mention Liverpool lunchtime traffic earlier in the day)

Cockbaskets!

I mean seriously, how can this be Dark grey?

It would be useful if somebody who knows their stuff could vet Ghosty's CV, to make sure he's presenting himself in the best possible light. Is that in your area of expertise chaseracer?

I'd be happy to, in fact part of my targets at work involve vetting CVs, running job hunting workshops and community friendly stuff.

I know this post is a few pages back, but get in touch if you want Ghosty.

Reminds me of going to pick up a tailgate for my old 205 from a breakers: "Yes, it's absolutely fine, no damage at all". When I got there they'd dropped a fucking car on top and destroyed all the top edge of it. Brilliant.

You have to remember that to a breakers no damage = you can still tell what it once was

When I bought the wheels for the vec I were told two tyres were good and the other two were "ok". Two were good - the ok ones looked like they had been shot at point blank range.

Breakers definitions - much different from everybody else's.

I'm not the only 20 year old here?!

No classic insurer will touch young people over the interwebs, they all assume you're 25+, 30+ etc. Flux occasionally appear on GoCompare if you're trying to insure a '70s car, but they don't appear for 80s/90s stuff. Advice I've heard is to avoid them in any case, the quotes I was getting from them were absurdly cheap, like £500 for a Triumph 2000 or £750 for a P6 2000. P6 V8 is £1600 with 'normal' insurers though, a fact I might have to take advantage of when I have money coming in.

Get on the phone to FJ, Peter Best etc.

Lancaster were the only people who did classic insurance on a Midget when I was 19.

Posted

A good friend of mine had a classic policy with Lancaster and got screwed upon cancelling it with eye watering cancellation/admin charges which far outweighed the original cost of the policy. (And no, for various legal reasons just letting it run apparently isn't an option)

Probably not an issue if you intend to see the policy through to the end, but beware.

A common condition for all classic policies is that you have another car as your main vehicle, unfortunately they're wise to buying a 'classic' and getting cheap insurance to do 80k miles a year as your main vehicle. So it might be that, but they also don't like under 25’s.

Seem to recall someone else in this parish struggling to get classic insurance on an actual classic because they were 24, so I wouldn't expect too much leeway, but it's worth a phone call.

In a wee dilemma with insurance myself, need to insure the 75, and was told Peter Best will put it on a classic policy. Called them and it's £326. Tried all the comparison sites and esure will do me a multi car policy for 298. Not much in it, but esure do it over 12 months. P.b give breakdown cover but I've got that anyway.. never had a good experience with classic insurance companies in the past, and with esure I'll build up an extra separate no claims. Thoughts?
