Cockbaskets!

Reminds me of going to pick up a tailgate for my old 205 from a breakers: "Yes, it's absolutely fine, no damage at all". When I got there they'd dropped a fucking car on top and destroyed all the top edge of it. Brilliant.

You have to remember that to a breakers no damage = you can still tell what it once was

I'd be happy to, in fact part of my targets at work involve vetting CVs, running job hunting workshops and community friendly stuff.

I know this post is a few pages back, but get in touch if you want Ghosty.

When I bought the wheels for the vec I were told two tyres were good and the other two were "ok". Two were good - the ok ones looked like they had been shot at point blank range.

Breakers definitions - much different from everybody else's.

There's a nice trail of deisel from somewhere in high wycombe to my house thanks to the bodged leak off pipe coming off. Thought I could smell it whilst queuing. Best go check the cars not on fire in a bit, it was smoking off the block nicely when I parked up. Had best fit the new pipes I have in the car and have had for 3 weeks!

The tappety sound is a bit louder too. That's Sunday mornings jobs sorted then when my dad leaves.

Should mske things interesting when it rains then.......

My half-formed plan was change the insurance over to the polo again, then get classic insurance for the 205. Possibly not really going to work, I'll have to do it the old fashioned way with telephones and whatnot I think.

Are Adrian Flux the good ones or the crap ones?

I'm not the only 20 year old here?!

No classic insurer will touch young people over the interwebs, they all assume you're 25+, 30+ etc. Flux occasionally appear on GoCompare if you're trying to insure a '70s car, but they don't appear for 80s/90s stuff. Advice I've heard is to avoid them in any case, the quotes I was getting from them were absurdly cheap, like £500 for a Triumph 2000 or £750 for a P6 2000. P6 V8 is £1600 with 'normal' insurers though, a fact I might have to take advantage of when I have money coming in.

Get on the phone to FJ, Peter Best etc.

Lancaster were the only people who did classic insurance on a Midget when I was 19.

Posted

A good friend of mine had a classic policy with Lancaster and got screwed upon cancelling it with eye watering cancellation/admin charges which far outweighed the original cost of the policy. (And no, for various legal reasons just letting it run apparently isn't an option)

Probably not an issue if you intend to see the policy through to the end, but beware.

A common condition for all classic policies is that you have another car as your main vehicle, unfortunately they're wise to buying a 'classic' and getting cheap insurance to do 80k miles a year as your main vehicle. So it might be that, but they also don't like under 25’s.

Seem to recall someone else in this parish struggling to get classic insurance on an actual classic because they were 24, so I wouldn't expect too much leeway, but it's worth a phone call.

In a wee dilemma with insurance myself, need to insure the 75, and was told Peter Best will put it on a classic policy. Called them and it's £326. Tried all the comparison sites and esure will do me a multi car policy for 298. Not much in it, but esure do it over 12 months. P.b give breakdown cover but I've got that anyway.. never had a good experience with classic insurance companies in the past, and with esure I'll build up an extra separate no claims. Thoughts?

Posted

£326 doesn't sound like much of a deal for a classic policy, I have two cars with FJ and they are about £130 each. One has agreed valuation too.

I'd go with the standard policy and build an extra set of no-claims

Posted

Yeah, never paid more than 80 quid for my x1/9's. It's a 2003 though, so it's a special deal for the 75.

They've listed it on eBay as a grey wing.

Surely the word "grey" was a clue that it wasn't silver.

The official colour is Luna Grey. Which Is a apparently a sophisticated way to say silver. I was a bit naive to assume that a picture of a silver item for sale meant they were selling a silver item. And when my message said "have you still got this silver wing for sale?" And their reply was "YES M8 STILL GOT THAT £60" you might have thought they could have mentioned then that it wasn't silver. I dunno, it's no different to online dating in that the photo can't actually be relied on all the time. Lesson learnt

The further adventures of me at the M4 westbound services...

The toilets get cleaned every 12 seconds which is great, not soo great is the strategically placed 8-10mm holes in the cubical that you have to spend an hour and a half to cover before you can use them, I'm surprised I didn't see more Germans.

Costa was rammed and one machine was out. I had to go to Gregg's, which is cheaper and comes with a bacon sandwich, but the coffee isn't great. Whilst putting sugar in..

"Hi, can I have a tea please, strong and very milky"

"Two tea bags?"

"No, not that strong"

I get to my collection admittedly 10 mins late.

"It's gonna be 30-45 mins"

I need to go Michael Douglas Falling Down at some point.

So you wanted a grey wing, sent a message about a grey wing (even though you wrote silver), got a reply saying they still had the grey wing and you're complaining that it was the wrong shade of grey even though you didn't ask which grey it was.

I think if I had a car which was grey but looked silver then I'd very careful about buying painted panels for it.

I suppose my main point is that the advertised picture was a silver panel, and when I pointed out it was silver in the picture the response was they took the picture on a sunny day. That's what I found annoying.

Their acknowledgement didn't specify they had a grey wing, they just said they still had the wing which I (reasonably I think) thought meant the item in the picture.

Did you think the picture looked like a silver panel? Or would you have said it was a dark grey metallic?

Asking for a paint code may have helped

Yeah that's true, they might have been able to confirm for sure if they had the rest of the shell sitting around to cross ref it. It wouldn't have been on the wing independently but I will be more inclined to check it next time.

The whole situation has been a comedy of errors. Tile hits my car, neighbour wasn't insured and won't pay for the repair (could small claims court it I suppose) and all I want is a silver wing so I can sell the car a little more easily. I have already bought two (sent both back as one was scratched to hell and the other bent and dented) and now what I thought was an ideal match turns out to be anything but.

At the end of the day maybe I am just a little grumpy that a simple request for a replacement part in decent condition is proving to be a lot more difficult than it should be.

Just to help matters there is prob about 4 shades of that colour anyway

It might actually be cheaper to get a wing sprayed than to keep trekking up and down the country from eidjet to eidjet in the hope that one of then might get it right.

Posted

I already had a look into that and it's about twice the price but to be honest I'm giving up looking now. The ultimate solution will be to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and leave it on charge in the fag lighter while tumble drying some stuff in an Indesit dryer in the boot. That should guarantee I don't need to fuck about selling it!

At about 8pm last night I was following a car through a built up area with a THINK BIKE! sticker in the rear window, when some ignorant organ donor blasted past both of us at more than double the speed limit and then had it on the back wheel.

Some of these tossers really don't help themselves.

Reminds me of this clip I saw yesterday (7:39 onwards if it doesn't go there automatically)

That is excellent! The biker got a deserved bollocking, but I cannot believe he didn't swing for the bloke when he flicked his visor up.

Then he even uploaded it. Tremendous!

Hopefully he uploaded it because he realised his mistake, not because he was looking for moral support.Sadly there are far too many out there who treat other traffic as obstacles to be passed as quickly as possible, then blame others for their lack of anticipation when it goes wrong.

Attention all claims management companies - I don't want your help, stop phoning. It's getting irritating now, I can't even switch the phone off because of work.

Oh, and SCTSH_PWR can go to hell too. They have also been spamblasting the mobile because I entered a competition (I DID NOT) to win Primark vouchers (DO NOT WANT) and entered my real mobile number on the form (LIKE I'D DO THAT). "Terms and conditions" of the offer included being talked at for 40 minutes straight by a guy who wanted to convince me that he and ONLY he had the power to give me the 100% best deal on home energy ever. He didn't even get the hint when I picked up a guitar and played it for 20 of those minutes and only went away when the phone battery gave out 10 minutes after that.

5 missed calls from them when I turned it back on this morning, number now added to block list. I might have maybe considered looking at their prices with a view to swapping if he'd ever got to the point.

Not yet, but you just gave me something to do this afternoon!

You know how everyone puts a fake number when they enter these comps? Now we know what happens.
