Friends (and friends of friends) want favours, not invoices.

The favour was doing it a fucksight cheaper than normal for someone I barely know.

This morning, my work PC asked to update. I postponed and then forgot about it.

For unconnected reasons, I've just restarted my PC and it's taken the liberty of ignoring my request to postpone (until after I'd finished working) and doing the update anyway.

Three restarts, three slowly counting percentages, now a laughable screen promising it's "Almost ready". At some point that will be true, but it wasn't 35 minutes ago when it first appeared. Total so far is one hour, fifteen minutes.

Idiot sister has been dumped. Ma is expecting me to act as if it's the biggest tragedy ever ever EVER!!

Sadly only thought going thru my mind is miss dumped can have her dog back then instead of dumping it on us 24/7. I'm sick of being told oh we couldn't possibly do that, we have the dog 'cos idiot has booked every day until 2096 for a 'keg' for her.

True mates would do all they can to support their friends business ventures.

Cheapskate mates just want everything cheap.

Mutipla No 2 is borked,

Wife complained of difficulty getting into gear, it appeared that the clutch wasn't totally disengaging, I pressure bled the system and made it worse, stuck a good used slave cylinder on, pressure bled the system and now there's no clutch pedal at all.

Fuck it, the garage can do it. and the fucking MOT fucking thing.

Someone drove into the wife's car tonight. Totally fucked the front wing, scratched up the bumper, complete mess. Luckily it still drives ok.

A neighbour heard the bang and thoughtfully got a description of the vehicle and a plate. When they told me it seems likely its my neighbours mother in law has hit it, reversed back, stopped to look at the damage, and driven off. They also realised they had been spotted but drove off anyway.

I sincerely hope they report this to the fuzz in the next 24 hours - I have........

So who fancies getting bumraped for a new wing and paint job three weeks before Christmas??

This is AS, man ! What you need is an odd coloured wing from the scrapyard and a handful of zipties to keep the bumper in place !

In the unlikely event that the insurance does pay out, you can use the money to buy a present for the missus. Go for something classy, like a completely rotten Metro with blown hydragas displacers.

Secondhand parts in the same colour sounds the way forward to me, condolences on the issue though.

Sigmund, I thank you for bringing me back to earth!

Reality is its a new wing - I have seen them on eBay for 30 quid, couple of rattle cans (luckily its a flat colour!) and jobs jobbed. However it's Wifeys little baby so anything less than the best isn't good enough. Even though ultimately all a Fiat dealer will do is wang on a pattern part, rattle can it.......

I am annoyed though that the (allegedly) neighbour did this and drove off thinking "fuck it, they'll never know it was me". As if I won't notice the body damage and blue paint on their car!

Anyhow, insurance call tomorrow, I am letting plod sort this. If they are not insured or taxed or have a licence, that's not my problem. Unless they want to hand over 300 quid cash, then I might forget it happened....

That's. possible - problem is its a limited edition colour so I might struggle to get a match. Worth a try though!

This might be interesting - there is a rogue piece of broken black plastic just under Wifeys car. It is Fiat branded and has a part number on it. Any ideas on how I can trace what it's from? Google doesn't help.

Would be lovely to discover it is unique to Fiat Scudo's.........

Any idea where the MIL lives? I would wander past and take a gander at her car for damage and possible matching paint marks.

Or just confront the neighbour and say her car was seen hitting yours yesterday, so could you please have contact details or your calling plod with one eye witness on your side?

FFS thing sort of thing winds me up and its not even my car!!!

Posted

Next door is convinced they Don't know anyone with a dark people carrier. Obviously oblivious to the one their mum parks outside three times a week.....

No idea where she lives but the insurance, whilst polite and sympathetic have a greater excess where the other driver can't be traced (apparently the plate is a fake so Plod will be made aware). That probably means they aren't insured. It also means my excess for this claim is 400 quid. Which I imagine is about the value of the fix.

I am not resting until she has a fine and points. Trouble is whilst I am pretty chilled I am a spiteful bastard

Keep your eyes peeled for it, check for damage.

Unfortunately she probably wont appear in it now, sounds like the neighbours are covering up for her and know damn well what has happened.

Stick in there Parky, I hate people like your neighbours, and I bet if someone hit their car it would be WW3.

Posted

Ram their car with the damaged bit of yours then deny all knowledge stating perhaps it was the same driver, that or nail their eyelids to their front door. /rational

Plate is fake? Eh, how? Who does that these days with ANPR, shirley it would just flag straight up? Is there not a shop at the end of the road with CCTV you can bung £20 although I suppose it was dark wasn't it.

Posted

Well I say the plate is a fake - two witnesses told me the number and they were identical, apart one thought the last three letters were GMV, and the other said GMY - easy enough mistake to make at night but bloody similar. Neither plates exist according to Allianz insurance.

No shop down my road but unless the Mum has another car on standby she will need to get around here sooner rather than later I would have thought. Even if the damage is fixed, it's still a fake plate. Be a shame if a patrol car just happened to be passing when she next visits.....

What do the Inland Revenue and a pelican have in common?

They can both stick their bill up their arse.

That is all, I feel better now.

so fraud, leaving the scene and poss no tax/ins

plod should be all over and asking the neighbours (perverting the course - cos she drove off its a crime innit? ) for a address although they can match reg and car with partial number ya know :D

Hey Parkson. Have you tried the plate on: https://www.carcheckuk.co.uk/

I usually try them if I need to find out what a plate belongs to, I also use: http://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk as the new alternative to the old EVAL site once I know what the car is and if it's taxed/MOT'd.

Good luck with finding out the culprit, I'm sure it won't be long now until they are caught.

I need to renew my driving licence

I need my passport to do this online, fuck knows where that is, and the photo was taken when I was 15, and dvla will use that

Or I can go to my local* (12 miles away) post office to do the electronic photo thing for £18, but I have no holiday left so will have to blag an unpaid afternoon off work

Or... Get someone to take a photo of me against a white wall in the office, resize it to passport sze, laser it out and stick it to the d28573932 form, get my step dad to write me a cheque for £17 and post the lot off and hope for the best...

May have a look for the passport tomorrow just in case there's an 'upload jpg' option somewhere...

Ffs, why could I not have more notice? Its not like its said Expires: 04/01/2015 since I got it on 03.03.2010...

Wonder if my points I got on 05.2010 will be removed on the new counterpart...

(not trying to sound like a shit) there's no way the police are going to do anything at all with this. I've spoken to literally hundreds of people this has happened to. Even if you have the correct details (in West Yorkshire) you need to go into the station to fill out a report within 24 hours then the suspect will get a phone call. They get a telling off then told to contact their insurance and it goes no further as there's nothing to be gained.

If you've got the incorrect details they're sod all anyone can do. If they had the time they can check the computer for all cars with a part reg, but it takes ages and won't be done as again there's noting to gain.

I know it's not right but all of this investigation* type stuff is what you pay the insurance for. They should be doing this. If they find anything fraudulent then they are supposed to contact the police internally.

They should be. Similar thing happened to me ages ago. I got some points about a year after I passed my test. When points were up, I really couldn't be arsed paying the £24 to have them removed and besides, it wasn't long before my licence was up for renewal. One I got it renewed, points disappeared.
