Did some work on the sd1.

Managed to get a secondhand indicator stalk, which did'nt cure the non working indicators.

Hazard switch was the culprit, even though it worked - indicators obviously wired through it.

Still had to fit new stalk because I buggered the old one!

Had an offer for extended warranty for my one month old washing machine - a bargain at £118 for a year.

Robbing bastards - two years warranty payments will buy a replacement.

I haven't seen the TV broadcast but other years there were big chunks cut out. Not all of it was funny. I went to get a Drink When Jonathan Ross came on.

Most people do.

My question wasn't so much about why people mod cars but why every single one of them, no matter the car, wants it lowered. It's like a special look at me badge and has noting to do with how they think the car will handle.

Example is I was paying for petrol the other day. Guy behind the counter says "is it a fiesta, "yes", "you should get some coilovers on that". Er what??

Related to lowered suspension that fucking st has broken yet another spring due to its rock hardness. 3rd sodding one now. pos is also making some weird noise when revving bet it's something to do with the timing belt.

Still I'm thick, had it for new so I suppose I bet get it fixed, fucked if I'm doing it though

Been down the pub tonight with 3 friends in my mates Orion, that's lowered right down and it's a shit ride, my glasses felled of twice and he nearly lost the exhaust on the speed bumps, it looks cool but it's totally impractical when they are that low.

They don't need to be that low either to rattle your teeth out,

I put 40mm lowered springs and shocks on a mk1 xr2 and it gave me a sore neck with all the bouncy bounciness took them of and fitted new standard suspension after two weeks of hell.

might be better down south but the country roads up here need some travel.

I spent £11 at the main dealer on a genuine oil filter for my Primera. The muthafuckaz have only given me the wrong flaming one, JESUS MAN IF I WANTED THE WRONG ONE I'D GET IT FROM EURO CAR PARTS FOR £3

The allegro failed mot on three trivial things one of which was a wee hole in the exhaust back box.

I thought I'd not fuck about with bandages etc and take it off, weld it up proper job like.

What a cunt of an evening. It was a bastard to get off needing heated to surface of the sun temperatures.

Once it was off I discovered the back box was made of tin foil so what started as a hole the size of a budgie's fanny ended up needing a six inch square patch welding on.

Then, if I thought getting the exhaust off was difficult, putting it back on was a fucking total pain in the arse. The car was up on axle stands on one side but I was still operating in about 5 inches of space, rolling about on my back like an upturned beetle, working one handed trying to stretch rubber exhaust hangers. Had to keep stopping for a breather and giving my neck muscles a rest. What an unfit fuck I am.

I need a four poster.

The worst of it is, all that effort will have only bought me about 17 days before I need to get a new back box now that the tin foil has met the welder. Skin flint arsehole.

Some of those 6th formers could be working their arses off to pay for those cars, don't assume either that if mummy and daddy have paid for them that the kids don't appreciate it or know how much hardwork goes into providing them.

Education is one of the most important things in life,I'm guessing from your talk of 1100s and Minis you were lucky enough to have had free university places if you wanted them, the poor sods in 6th form now will end up with £30,000 plus debt when they graduate , so give them a break if mummy and daddy want to help them along with a couple of grands worth of Fiat 500 or MINI.

Well, that's put me in my place? Oh, I went to Uni as a mature student years after my sixth form college days. Unlike the 'ordinary' students of the time I had to pay for everything out of my own pocket so, yes I do have a debt of many thousands that I no doubt will be taking with me to my grave, more debt that the 18-21 year olds at the time will be carrying.

These are not uni students I was talking about, they were children in their first year of driving a car and still at school, and by the way they were treating them I very much doubt that a) they paid for them and b ) they showed any respect for their parent sacrificing a large chunk of their money for their children's welfare. They were brand new cars, not just a couple of grands worth of fairly modern stuff. That's what got my goat.

Enough. Sorry to you all but I felt I needed to reply to that. End of grump. I'll go and be miserable somewhere else.

Sorry, just re-read my original response and it was a bit stroppy wasn't it.

Probably because I'm always defending my kids having cars as soon as they're 17 to evil mother-in-laws etc.

I never had the chance to go to even 6th form and my wife like you went to uni later in life, so our attitude is to do anything and everything to encourage our four to further education and making sure they don't want to jack school in to get a car or whatever is just part of it. That and the fact I don't need much of an excuse to buy extra cars anyway.

I'll wind my neck in now!

Ah, don't worry about it! I can be just as stroppy at times and written things on a forum sometimes doesn't convey exactly what was meant. But If my assumptions are never challenged, how am I ever going to ever learn new things? Peace is restored, now let get on with being grumpy with the outside world!

Whoever invented work place meetings needs the mother of all fucking kickings.

I reckon it's two of one and half a dozen of the other.

There were grafters on my course, but many of my classmates didn't drive - they weren't interested unless it was a VAG box or a pirouetting shoe endorsed by Ken Block.

The other folk in my department did have cars - new cars, bought by their parents. A girl told me my (then four-year old) C4 was 'fit for the scrapheap' because it wasn't on the latest plate.

Got made redundant yesterday. Not surprised, boss was looking to bin me for ages and at least this way I get a bit of compo.

On the whole I wasn't keen on the job and not worried about that. Will miss some mates though. But I have breathing space and could do something else now, although that means endless rounds of interviews and pretending to be good at what I do.

So it's kind of a win/loss situation but the suns out and the football is on. Last time this happened to me in 2008 it was December and very cold, not to mention a huge shock at a time when expenditure was twice what it is now. Not sure if I am happy or not but sod it, cup of tea and a fag will help

Followed for three miles this afternoon by a moron tailgater in a 62 reg Honda Civic who was on the phone the whole time and steering with one hand (forget about indicating). Then crossing the a322 he decides to make an illegal right turn across oncoming traffic (while still on the phone)  to avoid having to go round the next little roundabout 100ft further up the road to turn left onto the dual carriageway. Tosspot. Hope the police I saw in the layby further up the road pull him over.

Those are exactly the sort of people Volvo back bumpers were invented for... ;)

Gloriously sunny day here and I foolishly thought people would be in a good mood as the Sun has got his hat on....

Bloke pulled out on me and flipped ME the bird... bloke had a go at me on the beach 'cos his grumpy dog had a go at one of mine and mine had a go back. Apparently I wasn't speedy enough coming to get my dog under control, I did think I should ask if he could see the walking stick and very severe walking problem I have, but decided to tell him I was going to shove my stick up his arse if he didn't take his welsh person out of my fooking sight! This seemed to have the desired effect!

Then another bloke on the phone tried to drive straight into me as he was tooooo busy chatting to stay on his side of the road, and so it's gone on. I'm bloody glad to be home safely!

A girl of about 20 I used to know a year ago said her car was 'old' and she wanted a new one.

'Ah what is it?' I asked.

Two year old Golf TSI.

A few weeks later the timing chain went, so I tried to convince her to buy an XJ40.

She nearly did it but the insurance quotes were too high for her!

Argh! French phone/internet service providers, they really do make you around the houses. One of the housemates bought a top up receipt this morning, tried to help him put the code once I managed to find the secretive full top-up phone number (not the one with 3 digits that can only be called from the providers phone) I tried topping up only to find out that he seem to have bought the wrong ticket.

It's around 30 degrees here, very stuffy and sweat provoking. Numpty here decided when he moved in to take the top floor room which has the most stunning views from the window but where it's very warm :( plus there are too many flies.

I'm about to have my "appraisal" at work. Boss sat me down yesterday to explain how to fill out the self-assessment form etc... he then briefly touched up on my progress so far (seemingly off the record) and suggested that I wasn't very good at my job and that others before me had been (which I know is a complete lie having spoken to the person who done the job before me) this has kind of shattered my dreams of making a life here in France (even though simple things are made fairly difficult here just for the fuck of it)

Having said that, the company has just been bought out by another holiday company (which itself has been bought out, sigh....) and the general feeling is that warehouse we are based at may no longer be operation by the end of next season, or at least it'll be winding down.

No, company in the city called Gartmore. There for years, nice little firm and a real shame they went down

gotta love eurocarparts, ordered a timing belt kit for my Alfa (2.4 JTD) the kit arrived and had 1.9 JTD written on it. I email them and said I don't think you've sent me the right kit, no no they said it is correct don't worry. So spent the weekend using my gynaecological skills to get the old timing belt off only to find that the had indeed sent me the wrong kit, luckily I could use the belt and the tensioner but not idler, although the one on the engine felt ok. So I email them again and said I was right, you were wrong and they just said sorry we use the manufactures catalogue not our fault, I was expecting them to give me some sort of money off code for my next order, but I got nothing.

Posted

^^ They might use the manufacturers catalogue but it helps of you know how to read the bloody thing!

That excuse is like ringing someone up and when they say "sorry, wrong number" you can indignantly reply "well that's not my fault, I got your number from the Phone Book!"

ahh the old 2 litre oil filter debacle
