The grumpy thread

the trans one on the open forum,

TBH it getting locked and deleated was deffo for the best.

It was hardly AS material. If we can't do politics, we sure as hell can't talk about more diverse subjects.

Hence I never looked at it as I know my views, being normal not 'right on left wing PC' would have got deleted.

The reason it was moderated was that it had multiple complaints because it had gone beyond a civil discussion.

The reason I didn't go through and trim the dodgy comments is that

a) I would have to make judgement calls about what should be included or removed - which in turn will lead to further discussions

b. ) I don't want to play referee

c) honestly spending time trimming comments is quite low down on my priorities today

d) most of the discussion was that as long as you like shite cars this is the place for you

I thought it was fairer and quicker to remove everything except the initial post so that people can go and read the blog if it is something they want to engage with.

The blog has a comments section so you can discuss anything interesting on there if you wish.

You know what, the trans thread started out good. It perhaps didn't align with everyone's views but like the threads we have on being single, depression etc it seemed a good way for the OP to talk about something important.

There was then some name calling in all sorts of directions which was picked up on, quoted and referred to which makes it hard to remove just the posts in question. Other people then chipped in referencing posts which the author had deleted but could still be seen in a quote.

Moog wasn't joking when he said it was the most reported thread in a long, long time. Rather than remove it entirely it was felt the first post, which advertised Nicola's blog, could stay and then when we've got a bit more time it could be worthwhile unhiding some of the posts that didn't generate complaints. That is quite tricky on mobile which is why it was mass hidden to start with, we've all been out and about today. Apologies if it seemed a bit sledgehammer, I shall break out the toffee hammer shortly.

Essentially we tried but as with politics, when opinions are strong it just ends up with people falling out.

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation, by the sound of it you did exactly the right thing :-)

No, their not made welcome! They live next door to Lenny, who is the most grumpy twat ever, the one who polices the car park and blocks people in who park in his bit of dirt... He likes me though because I service his car, so he's a handy man to know!

So their fairly quiet, and mostly just deal weed. It's great fun arriving home from work, clocking one trying to silently walk away to his car and booming a big, cheery hello how you doing as I walk past

No fuck ‘em. Drug dealers of any scale aren’t welcome. Absolute cretins the lot of them.

Anyway, I’m absolutely sick to the back teeth of the occupants on the allotment site I’m on thinking they ought to sell up and get some kind of windfall. Basically the site we are on was transferred in ownership from the NCB to us, as a society to use as allotments in a society, anyway the old grape vine is (and this is bullshit) is that we’d all get £20k per plot. Absolute codshit. In the constitution it says any funds go back to repurchasing another site. Anyhow all the old 70 odd year old what I’d call Champagne Socialists are saying ‘let’s flog it’. Typical northern ex miner mentality of flog it for a pittance and they’ll build some council houses on it for our grandkids and we’ll get £20k out of it.

No you won’t get fuck all if it’s anything to do with me. Also you’ve forgotten one small point. It isn’t yours to bloody sell.

Hey! I used to sell weed back in 'nam. You know I don't see why I should be the criminal, how can something with no recorded fatalities be illegal? How many deaths are there per year from alcohol?

I just completed Gran Tourismo on the hardest setting, we pose no threat on my settee.

Ooh the pizza's here will someone let him in please....."We didn't order chicken, Not a problem we'll pick it out, I doubt they meant to mess us about, after all we're all adults not louts."

As I was saying, we're friendly peaceful people, we're not the ones out there causing trouble. We just sit in this hazy bubble with our quarters, discussing how beautiful Gail Porter is.

MTV, BBC Two, Channel Four is on until six in the morning. Then at six in the morning the sun dawns and it's my bedtime.

I agree with what you and pillock said. I still think it's a shame that we can't all get along with things and people make use of the ignore function. It would certainly make you guys job a lot easier

I hope so.  After all, some of us took a not inconsiderable amount of time to compose a considered, informed and level headed post.  I'm not saying what I write is gospel, but I am saying that - by deleting everything - you place the same value on good posts as you do the inflammatory stuff.  If that keeps happening, over time, people will just stop bothering.

I confess, I didn't see the whole thing explode.  But am I right in saying this is the second Nicola thread to end badly?

Daughter has just had her car written off on a roundabout.  Other driver's fault and has admitted it to police and her insurance company.  They won't be happy about it but is on public record now

Daughter's car was up for MOT on Saturday.  She gets a hire car and some cash to put toward a replacement.

When she gets the paperwork for the hire car just get her to check it , when mine was hit the accident management offered me one , I declined because they were charging the 3rd party insurers £230 a day , if they dispute it as excessive you can be left with the bill.

If she's not been injured take the 3rd party insurers offer to fix and supply a car , no aggro then and some cunt in an office doesn't make 2k for a couple of phone calls.

'Are you the fella selling the cheap Focus 170'

Yes.

'Can you send me some details'

Sends basic details, clearly state it needs full 'restoration' or for parts.

'That's exactly what I'm after'

Sends pictures including one of the rust by the front wing

'Too much work for me'

She got the hire car on Friday, a new Fiat 500.  They are assessing her car tomorrow.  No injuries and she is not the type to claim there are if there aren't.

I did tell her how much the hire cars cost but it was the insurance other party's company that supplied it so that is their headache.

She's looking for a black or yellow Megane cabriolet.  I did tell her of the Volvo C70 cabriolet mentioned earlier (can't find the post) but it's out of her budget currently.

This really isn't a problem in the Internet age (unless B****t fucks things up, obviously) - my old Disco 300 TDi shat a front propshaft UJ on the way to Innsbruck a couple of years ago, I got a new propshaft complete with UJs delivered from Paddocks to our hotel within 2 days for £80 all-in.

The new shaft was fitted within 20 mins once I'd found somewhere that stocked 9/16" spanners, because like a tit I'd only packed my Metric spanner roll and didn't want to risk rounding off the nuts with a 14 mm.

My mind is blown that you found a suppler of 9/16 spanners in Austria - feck knows where I'd get any in Derbyshire/Notts/Leics - except a car boot sale of course.

Fuck sake my name has obviously been pulled out of a hat for pressure selling today

First up, Mortgage, I am in the process of remortgaging so I filled out an online quotation through Experian last week, this put me through to LandC who, to be fair, got me a fairly decent deal.   That was last Wednesday, now they're all up in my face giving it the hard sell "these mortgages are on a first come first serve basis" and now an e-mail that they "have heard" Coventry are about to withdraw the offer if I don't sign up by tomorrow afternoon...FFS if they're going to be dickheads about it then tell them to poke their mortgage up their bottom hole, plenty of other companies will give me just as good a deal

Then some weapons grade bellend from Vodafone giving me the hard sell on home broadband, which part of "I'm still in contract with my current provider" aren't you getting, and I don't really give a crap if you give me 30Mbps faster, because I already have 40 which is plenty for streaming Netflix and Prime video so the extra 30Mbps benefits me precisely nothing.

Not answering any more calls today...

Mortgages are a big earner for a financial institution, they’re all wanting a piece of the action. My mate went for a mortgages recently, told them he just wanted 100k over 25 years to get what he wanted. Anyway, as it goes they were telling him to forget taking one out for the 100k he could afford but instead to go for the 200k his income meant he could have. Isn’t this how we ended up in a mess last time though?

According to the documentation I've already been sent their kickback is £250.  My Mortgage is roughly one years annual salary (that's not to say my annual salary is huge but my mortgage is fairly small)  For the first time ever I have actually borrowed some on top, because if\when I move in with Mrs CF we're going to need cash to kit out a new place and they were lecturing me on the affordability of it - even though their online tool kept telling me I could borrow up to £230k...

I think the only thing that's changed since the pre-banking crisis days is that now they at least pay lip service to responsible lending, before irresponsibly lending it to you regardless.
