barefoot Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Watching Vera last night on the telly. Her landrover appeared to have an auto box selector thing between the seats! What's the craic with that then?
Dead_E23 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 According to this article on PH (ugh) she had a special order Defender V8 auto delivered in 2002, but then asked for it to be converted back to a manual. Perhaps the clutch got too heavy as she got older and she's had it swapped back again? It should be a fairly straightforward swap - I was considering swapping the engine and autobox from my knackered Range Rover into my 200Tdi Defender when the LEZ was being introduced in London, but in the end it turned out to be exempt because they consider the station wagon to be an estate car. barefoot 1
wuvvum Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 How hard a job are trailing arm bushes on a Rover 45? Is it something that can be done with a hacksaw, vice and selection of sockets, or are Bo11oxesque levels of fettling ability required - or is it one of those jobs that simply isn't going to get done without a 50-tonne hydraulic press?
twosmoke300 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 45 ta bushes are easy . Leave the arms on . Mark the adjuster bolt on the small arm. Undo it and the two that hold the big bush on . Undo brake flexi hose and abs wires as reqd . Pull the front of the arm down as far as poss and wedge it down with a bit of wood.Measure the fitted depth of the bush .Use a hammer to knock it out towards the outside of the car . Use a grinder to put a small chamfer on the leading edge of the new bush . DO NOT lube or grease it .Gently tap the bush in from the outside in . Start with tiny little taps until it’s seated squarely then beat it on in until it’s at the correct depth .Refit all parts .On a two post lift they take about 30 to do a pair and I don’t even take the wheels off , clayts450, wuvvum, The Moog and 1 other 4
oldcars Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Remembered i was given a grease gun by my father about 25 years ago. I must have used it on the bike so its filled with white grease. I take it this is no good for the Reliant that type of grease?
Christine Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Will I be able to get Radio 2 if i put a period Ford MW / LW radio in my Fiesta ?
Eddie Honda Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 No, but you'll get BBC 5 Live, maybe Radio 4 and maybe BBC local somewhere Absolute and a bit Talk Sport. Christine 1
egg Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 This is the £80 odd quid OEM power steering cooler pipes for my Mazda... Now, on the Mazda 323 forum, I've seen suggestion of replacing it with a generic cooler like this.... Would it work?
320touring Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Look up Moog's mx5 thread for a superb solution to this! He used copper piping. egg, The Moog and loserone 3

The Moog Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Or do what I did with copper pipe for many pounds cheaper. Was just some 10mm pipe plus fuel hose and clamps. Edit: just seen mr Touring has suggested it. egg 1

egg Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Cheers for the tips, doubt I have Moog's skill in fashioning my own one and finding somewhere to mount it as well!
Crusty Sills Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I'm sure it's been covered before but if I buy a car with no MOT and pre-book a test what happens about tax and insurance?
The Moog Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Cheers for the tips, doubt I have Moog's skill in fashioning my own one and finding somewhere to mount it as well!Honestly I am a ham fisted idiot. I just use the factory location - if it was an option there are places to put it. But as Mr smoke said unless track racing or similar probably don't need one. egg 1
NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I'm sure it's been covered before but if I buy a car with no MOT and pre-book a test what happens about tax and insurance? You don't need tax and insurance will be ok, unless there's some obviously dangerous illegal fault, but then I think that would be case with an MOT'd and taxed car.Just make sure the garage has got it booked in properly in their diary and you know the exact time it's booked in case a really keen copper phones from the roadside to check your story.
The Moog Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I'm sure it's been covered before but if I buy a car with no MOT and pre-book a test what happens about tax and insurance?Tax isn't an issue but will need to be insured.
DodgeRover Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I'm sure it's been covered before but if I buy a car with no MOT and pre-book a test what happens about tax and insurance?Insure as normal, make sure you have a copy with you while on the trip to the MOT station

Unless your drifting in California it will prob be fine without it Looks like it would be quite easy to bypass with an extra bit of pipe. Probably a job to do in a bit if and when I replace the radiator.
gm Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 regarding mx5s and steering fluid coolers, mazda deleted it from the car in ~1996 but reinstated in to the '98 model onwards. when I owned avo (moogs current mx5) the cooler sprung a leak so I removed and bypassed it, this was not an issue except when auto testing and on track days where the fluid boiled over. for daily driving, I wouldn't worry too much. Fabergé Greggs Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Is a Citroen 1.9d DW8 interference or non interference? Looking at driving an 18 year old van with 43,000 miles with no history of a change..

artdjones Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Are there any acceptable aftermarket wheel trims?Halfords used to do a replica of E30 BMW trims that was ok, but I think they've stopped now.Other than that,no. egg 1
Talbot Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Is a Citroen 1.9d DW8 interference or non interference? Looking at driving an 18 year old van with 43,000 miles with no history of a change.. Very interference. See if you can get a look at the belt and see if there are any visible cracks in it, especially as it goes over a pulley. Essentially very similar to an XUD engine, and despite having had many many of them in various states of belt condition, I've yet to have one actually snap on me. Other people have had this happen though, and the results are pretty severe. The cylinder head is generally scrap.
oldcars Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 I have massively over filled the oil on the Reliant, 1 L because i am fucking hopeless. If i drive it 5 miles any chance of it going bang?
