GrumpiusMaximus Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 I see no reason why not. As long as its not too worn and readable, it should be fairly trivial. I don't know the specifications on the locks but they're not going to be 7-tumbler, active beasts. You could probably just try raking it, to be honest...
GrumpiusMaximus Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Are they a standard slot-type lock or does it look like a cylindrical key? I don't think they'd present much of a challenge to a half-competent locksmith. When you know how and have practiced, it's very easy to pick most locks. I haven't practiced enough, sadly. Bren 1
Noel Tidybeard Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 if the locks can be got out like the first one a new set of locks would prolly be cheaper than getting keys cut
chodweaver Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 If they're like the lock barrels on a ZX (wafer tumbler type, I think) you could just take all the tumblers out and then any blank key would turn it. Making a key to match the lock is entirely possible, but likely too costly to be viable if done by a locksmith, and immensely time consuming if done by an amateur. Ask me how I know. dave21478 1
dave21478 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I havent the faintest idea what they look like, but would be mildly surprised if they were VAG-made and not made by someone like Thule and re-branded. If so a set of lock barrels direct from them might be an option. As above though.....IMO these are like locking wheelnuts...unless you live in some pikey ghetto, who actually steals stuff off cars these days? I would just forget the locks or pull out the tumblers so they can be turned with a screwdriver. catsinthewelder 1
jon928se Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 If you can get the lock barrels out and find an appropriate key blank??? It's not too difficult to file a set of grooves into the key to match the tumblers/ wafers. Keepsticking the key intonthe barrel to see where you need to cut then grooves deeper until they are closed to not sticking out. Then leave the key in the barrel and file down the tumblers or wafers until they don't stick out. Hey presto completely unique key.I havent the faintest idea what they look like, but would be mildly surprised if they were VAG-made and not made by someone like Thule and re-branded. binhoker668 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 So I've been interested in peoples thoughts on the HDi 2.0 engine of late. Any horror tales or loved up memories? I appreciate that all engines will have a smattering of both.... cpjitservices 1

I appreciate that all engines will have a smattering of both....I had a 306 estate with I believe the 90bhp version...no FAP or other extraneous dogshit. It was excellent, ran well, decent power and I naughtily used it to tow way beyond its rated limit a couple of times and the engine coped admirably. Would happily have another. IMO its the last generation of diesel engine worth owning and everything after it is a wallet-fucking nightmare waiting to happen. cpjitservices and binhoker668 2

cpjitservices Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Now that's what i like to hear!Had the 2.0 HDI in a Picasso - superb engine. Easy to work on and service. We had one from 102k miles to 208k, From Hull to Paris on one tank of fuel with a bit left over!
The Moog Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I have got a 90 Hdi in 406 estate. Does 45mpg but by god it is slow in day to day traffic. On motorway you have to change down for hills. 60 wanders into view in about 15 seconds. Happily trundles along at 70 mind. And for long distances I reckon it is a good bet. I will be trying to get a remap once I work out a way to borrow a laptop to do it with.
gm Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Can anyone do me Honda radio code for the crv ? the serial number off the radio is U3001 L3629 Cheers, gm
FakeConcern Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I'm looking to buy a particular model of car with an unusual spec and low mileage. I already search on Ebay, Autotrader, Gumtree, E&M and a general search on Google for that car. I'm not bothered about limiting seach to close to my postcode.Any thing else I've missed?

I appreciate that all engines will have a smattering of both....Ive ran a 2.0hdi 90 peugeot partner van for 7 years now. The thought of getting rid of it kills me....so much so that ive just spent more than its worth in parts alone just to keep it on the road. Just dont be like me and skip servicing, i wrecked the turbo cos i never changed the oil...for 5 years!

My van is sprightly off the line, keeps up and passes traffic with ease, does 45-50mpg around town and sits happily cruising at 90...Don't think so . Had Mr NJGleeds lob a scan through it (was clear) and had a drive - he seems to think Tadt sir. Had a look online and changing gears going uphill seems to be a thing for the 406 90s. Parker's reckons Partners are quicker to 60 by a couple of seconds, so maybe different gearing.
Pillock Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I had the 90hp 2.0hdi in a 307SW. It was dogshit slow compared to your generic VAG TDI BOOOST YO diesels, also had the weight of the glass roof to deal with. It never went wrong though. Not the engine at least The Moog 1
Jon Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Been asked by a friend to change the pads out on her Opel Mokka (ex Aussie model from their failed re-launch in Aus, then shipped over to sell in NZ when Opel bailed Aus). Am assuming that aside from judging whether she'll need new discs too, there's nothing untoward/special tools required in working on Mokka brakes? Simply asking, as I don't think I've touched brakes on a 21st Century motor.
sierraman Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 If it's like most vauxhalls, I'd clamp the flexi and open the bleed nipple when pushing the pistons back. Then bleed it after. Can flip master cyl seals otherwise.
SiC Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 What would a 2002 Seat Ibiza TDI be worth? 130bhp example but with 151k on the clock (I believe this engine can do silly miles ok?). Drivers windows held shut with an old receipt (VAG window regulator TADIS). Fresh MOT with 12 months on. Also any interest on here for such a motor? Colleague is thinking of selling her car as she doesn't really need it. I was thinking it's maybe worth £500-600ish for a quick sale??
twosmoke300 Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 2.0 hdi 90 is a good strong motor but not immune to a blown head gasket Talbot 1
djim Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Random question, uniroyal rainsport 3's - any good?I've a set on my car and 2 are close to the limit but will probably last a few more months as it's nearly summer. I'm trying to decide whether to replace the pair or save my pennies and upgrade all 4 to something better.

Eddie Honda Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 uniroyal rainsport 3's - any good? The only grumbling I've heard is about the wear rate. Sigmund Fraud and djim 2

GrumpyCat Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I may be looking at a Ford Fusion for the wife at the weekend, does the water dripping onto the spark plugs affect the 1.4, 1.6 or both? Also out of curiousity what is the little dashboard vent thingy on this generation Fiesta/Fusions to the left of the hazard switch?
louiepj Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Seen a Proton Savvy for sale but are spares like headlights available as there are no main dealers now? Local motor factor is making enquiries but instinctively replied main dealer only.
loserone Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 2savvy to the beige courtesy phone please. ISTR he was buying parts for other things anyway and making then fit, because proton parts were so expensive
