Guest Hooli Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Would you worry if it didn't have a gauge? It has to be the gauge if the pressure is maxed out without the engine running. I think the sender is a variable resistor to earth, so it could just be a short to earth on that wire somewhere.
SiC Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 It's why only the very first MX5 had a real oil pressure gauge. Later ones went to good/bad needles. Then the MK3 went with one that moved based on some parameters to fake it. If the pressure switch detected no pressure, it'd just show minimum.
Kiltox Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Do Cat D write offs lose their manufacturer warranty?
cort16 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Yes. I looked into it when looking at one a few months ago. Kiltox 1
Kiltox Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Ta. Still seriously tempted by this though if it drives alright https://www.gumtree.com/p/vans/2015-renault-trafic-ll29-business-1.6-dci-damaged-repairable-salvage/1264214207
Dirk Diggler Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 There was a thread on here a few months ago about remapping; can't remember who posted and can't find it Anybody?

3VOM Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Any suggestions for getting a stretch CV joint boot over a CV joint. Are the cone tools the way to go?
Kiltox Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Any suggestions for getting a stretch CV joint boot over a CV joint. Are the cone tools the way to go?Yep. Probably cheaper to buy a new shaft than buy a proper tool though The Moog 1
dave21478 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 If you are a bodger like me you can do stretch boots by making a cone shape out of some thin alloy sheeting you have lying around. Cover the edge in gaffa tape to prevent it slicing the boot. Smear it in grease. Sit the boot in a pan of very hot water for a while to soften it. Its a nightmare though, you end up with grease everywhere and it takes a hell of a lot of force. I havent seen a hole stretch that large since a friends stag night where a ropey old stripper "birthed" a half-size rugby ball onto my lap. jonathan_dyane, mat_the_cat and gordonbennet 3
twosmoke300 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Turn the boot inside out first Lacquer Peel 1

3VOM Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Yep. Probably cheaper to buy a new shaft than buy a proper tool thoughNo it's a 206. Will lose more in gearbox oil than the cost of a tool.Turn the boot inside out firstI had remembered that.
castros_bro Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Any suggestions for getting a stretch CV joint boot over a CV joint. Are the cone tools the way to go? Done a couple of those last month on a Pug 205 using a cone and not removing the inner end from the diff, Cost under £10 for two boots and the cone kit, needs a bit of strength and not too difficult when you get the technique right
Guest Hooli Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 My mum thinks she has put the wrong fuel in a '55 plate Belingo 1.6 HDi. She's added about £8 of petrol to 3/4 of a tank of diesel as far as she knows. I'm assuming it's a bad idea to just keep topping it up with diesel & driving it being electronic injection? Any idea how to tell her to drain it as she's 200 miles from me? Bearing in mind she's retired & my dad is even older.
egg Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Is it more likely I cracked it by removing it, because gorilla, or is this not uncommon on old plugs?

artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Same as XUD so Tata should fit.If you want four wheel drive the Suzuki Grand Vitara used the 2.0 HDi up to around 2004. chaseracer 1

Guest Hooli Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I wouldn't even think about trying to talk aged parents through draining the tank, the choice is either ignore it or pay somebody to deal with it. I'd be inclined to wing it with the £8 of petrol, even if I was in the same place as the car, that's only about 10% of the tank. TBH if draining it was any more difficult than poke a hose down the filler then I'd be thinking the same. We're not even sure she's done it, but she thinks she might have done & it run better after adding another gallon of diesel.
sierraman Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Re the CV boot, leave the boot in some boiling water then stick some washing up liquid on the tool. Goes on easier. Still hard work though but simpler than stripping the driveshaft.

taxi paul Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Whilst looking the other day I noticed my celica tyres are all cracked. No advisory on last mot so didn't take much notice when I picked it up. Turns out from the date stamp they are 15 yrs old. So do I buy new ones or risk life and limb.
twosmoke300 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 LDV Pilot?That's what I came on to post . Lt77 I believe
artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Do any mk2 Focuses have climate control?I never see any for sale in Ireland with it, even though more than half of the ones on sale were originally UK registered.Even the Titanium and Ghia models don't seem to be fitted.(I'm looking for a new car for my wife and it's a bit of a deal breaker as she's been used to it for 5 years).

My 09 Titanium had the NAV HIGH option which was a wanky touchscreen satnav (Blaupunkt Travelpilot NX) and the climate controls built in. Could even set temperature by voice, very fancy I guess in 2009. You could get the climate panel separate which has two little temperate displays in, as my temp was displayed on the big touchscreen. I looked for one of those clusters but they're seriously rare, I only saw two on eBay both from STs that were being broken. Edit: here's the one with satnav And the standalone, much rarer one
Snipes Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 So my Bora has been a right bastard in regards to it's wishbones/ball joints. What a saga. Mechanic has had to cut the bolts off, which is fine and all. However, weirdly, when putting in the old bolt for the drop link to connect to the wishbone, it tightened but then didn't tighten fully. It will continue to turn tightly and that's it. He checked for play, there is none, and he even hit it several times to see if it would come out, which it hasn't. It spins tightly with a ratchet but refuses to move by hand or force. He suspects the very end of the bolt has been damaged slightly. Question is, will it be safe? He certainly seems to think so. There was no play whatsoever. Sounds like the threads may have stretched, probably just due to age and rust. I doubt it's dangerous but may clonk about when the weight of the car and some cornering force is applied. I'd be inclined to replace the bolt, but still use the car in the mean time.
Timewaster Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Ta. Still seriously tempted by this though if it drives alright https://www.gumtree.com/p/vans/2015-renault-trafic-ll29-business-1.6-dci-damaged-repairable-salvage/1264214207The drivers seat would be a serious red flag for me.Worn through in 47000miles? I would suggest multi drop courier use, constant stop starts, in and out of the van (hence the seat wear), up and down kerbs, and ragged everywhere to an impossible schedule.Doesn't look like enough body damage to write off a 2015 van I bet it's as fucked as a thing that's fucked.
artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Oh well,if we want a Focus with climate it looks like it will have to be a Volvo S40, thanks for the info.
