warren t claim

Yeah, not concerned about making any difference to the car. My issue is the fact it's stored inside the car (crazy German progress*) and that a non vented battery will release gases into the cabin rather than through the vent tube. I just wondered whether the gases released were negligible and not to worry about. I'm getting the impression that I'll need to bite the bullet on this one for peace of mind.

Edit: Bullet bitten. Yuasa battery, 5 year warranty, would have been £143 if I hadn't used my Halfords trade card. Best deal I could find for anything with a decent spec and warranty. Really glad* I've not just paid out for brakes on the MR2 and a full set of tyres for the Bimmer.

At least they should both behave and offer trouble-free* motoring for the foreseeable now...

What's, at the moment, the best website to buy tyres with fitting?

Recommendations please

Can 'stop start' be retro fitted? I seem to be forever stuck at lights etc, Because I'm a tight git, the last 10 quid I chucked in the clio I have been cutting the engine at lights etc, this seems to be paying dividens, so far im getting approx 41mpg, this is mainly tip runs with a car full also, this MPG will rise as I've still got a few miles left before my light comes back on. ( i know it's not a tank to tank but close enough for this) another 15 miles and my average will be close on 50 MPG and this just knocking about.

I can only assume that I'd get similar results on my CRV.

That's what I've been doing, however this is 2017, I'm lazy.

Yes you could, you would need to add a sensor to tell when the car is in neutral. Then work out the logic.

Something like:

IF speed = 0 AND time > x AND battery voltage > y THEN stop engine.

So if you have been sitting for x period of time and the battery was charged enough it would kill the engine. You would have to decide how to kill it, e.g. Crank sensor or low voltage feed to coil, etc.

Then to restart it you could use a switch on the clutch and of course check it was in neutral. So you just touch the clutch and it sends 12v to the starter circuit. You could access this from the ign switch. To tell if the engine was running you could use the oil pressure lamp (easy) or the crank sensor (harder)

Also bear in mind a car with stop start from the factory has had the starter motor designed to cope with numerous starts a day.

Anyone had any experiences with Autoaid recovery ? They seem bloody cheap, and I know the whingers on Money Saving Expert are all banging on about the fact it's gonna go downhill since they got bought out by some insurance broker or other (Right Choice ?).

Just trying to get some cover in place, given my track record (mixture of AA and Green Flag used at various times in the long distant past)

Go back to the 80s then. VW Polo Formel E had stop start, I had an '83 model with it.

Been with them a few years, never needed to call them out, so far.

This year when checking T's and C's it appears it's no longer a pay and claim, whilst this appears to be good news for the customer i have an inkling it will backfire slightly, bare with me :

When it's a pay and claim always in the back of your mind would be the question 'what if they reject this claim' and i'd wager that encourages most people to mitigate both the likelihood of breakdown and the likely cost should it happen.

Now that's no longer a worry i suspect recovery costs will rise and inevitably so will the premiums due, i did send them an email voicing concerns over this move (yes honestly i would rather it stayed pay n claim if it kept premiums low) as it maybe tended to keep those who break down regularly in the custom of others.

No reply however.

Can someone remind me please who on here sells the Autoshite car window stickers ? Need one to brighten up my rear window

I've split my gaiter. The driveshaft one on gearbox end. Can I bodge repair it ? I was thinking puncture repair or glue.

Or do I have to replace the whole gaiter ? It's only a small hole

Super glue does work if you can get it spotlessly clean . Pretty damn difficult if it's full of cv grease mind !

Stick on a VV carb from an Escort.

Or slash the diaphragm in your brake servo.

Looking to get a spare wheel for the pug of much gayness. The tyres /wheels aren205/45/16. Do I need to get identical or can I put something else on I can find has long as it is the same height. Like a space saver one.

Whats the best tool to clear out scuttle drains?

The vel satis has installed its own indoor paddling pool due to all the precipitation and I am not a fan

A straightened wire coat hanger works well. Or some coax cable or similar. Has long has its stiff. Ooh err missus.

Citroen BX rear stub axles - I've just put a new one on my BX and it seats perfectly fine, except that when I try and put on the new hub the stub axle tries to make a break for freedom. What am I doing wrong?

black circles have worked well for me, but the last tyres the local centre beat any of the online lot (for decent brand tyres).

Most of the online lot are all within pennies of the others in my experience.

Been with them a few years but not had to call them out until recently. In a disturbingly short period of time I've had the Scirocco and Jaguar recovered home and the 944 recovered to a garage.

Drama free in all cases.

Awaits renewal with interest...
