Thanks chaps, I'll give it a try if I can work it out, electrics are not my strong point once it goes beyond household plugs and very basic soldering.

Easiest way is disconnect the plug from the sensor and set meter to ohms, then one probe to each pin and see reading.

Check this with the internet or all the others and the odd one out is fucked (hopefully)

Have you done any work in the front wheel area on the skoda ? Some vag stuff has abs sensors that are only a push fit into the hubs ( Passat and A4 deffo do this ) . When you do work on the hub area they can get knocked back a bit and bring the light on . To fix just push in until it stops then pull back approx 1mm

Oh and not all abs sensors have a resistance . The newer stuff ( basically if you have a wheel bearing with built in encoder ring ) you need an oscilloscope to diagnose .

Thanks for that information, I did not know that.

I will have to see if the Mrs can get me a free oscilloscope from her work when being cleared out :)

Well, I changed the front brake pads over the Christmas break so yes, it's quite possible.  When I next get time (so, probably the next Christmas break) I'll get the front wheels off and have a look.  One thought, actually - I used bog standard copper grease on the back of the pads as per usual but I know technically you're not really meant to on ABS cars, would that have anything to do with it?  If so, what grease should be used?  Not a big deal to pop them out, clean them off and regrease them if it's an issue.

You would have had to have put the copper grease on with a trowel to make an abs fault . I've always used copper slip and must have fitted hundreds of sets of brakes and had no issues .

How does one avoid cookies. Bloody annoys me that sites tell you that they use them, and to continue is to agree to them. I don't want to be bloody targeted ,by them or any bugger else.

And another thing, why am I seemingly the only one I've seen so far on this site, to have pointed out to all and sundry, that i have 0 warning points? whats that all about?

You only see your own. I can't see yours, but I can see that I've got 65 warning points.

Also good for looking at porn and not getting found out!

Except when you live [edit: have an internet connection which routes through] somewhere with draconian surveillance legislation like the UK.

I saw them on the front of a new Citroën DS3 the other day, so apparently not now the exclusive preserve of Audis.

Ctrl-Shift-P in firefox, not sure on other browsers but F11 often works too.

Bear in mind though, without cookies any shopping baskets won't work nor will you be able to sign in to a lot of websites.

CTRL-Shift-P brings up the printer page and F11 goes fullscreen for me (Chromium) but the options button in both - top far left) has an "Incognito" or "Private Browsing" button.

F11 is fullscreen on both.

What's the best way to remove the round bushes on a Peugeot / Citroën wishbone? Yeah I know I should have bought new control arms with bushes but I have the new bushes now.

Burning them didn't work.

This is definitely a stupid question. I've always fancied a 110 defender. There, I've said it. Probably since Brian the builder owned two and lived across the road from a 9 year old me, I've thought they're ideal.

I've got a bit of cash spare, probably up to 2.5k. Are defenders on this price range total rubbish?

If not a defender, what is a suitable alternative that can go on classic or enthusiasts insurance, seats 5 with proper seatbelts, and 4x4?

Have you driven a Defender?

I like them and am a dedicated Land Rover apologist, but they are grim on the road. Surprisingly cramped in the cab and woeful road manners.

2.5k could get you a reasonably nice one, but it could also get you one just on the point of dissolving totaly.

Pretty decent off road, massive spares and accessories backup, infinite knowledge on several forums, decent looks, higher driving position than most Fuck You, Peasant X5 type 4x4s, nobody ever pulls out in front of you or parks too close....there is a lot to like, but the road manners are a BIG negative. Also one of the most stolen cars on the road iirc.

Personally I would look at an early Discovery - does pretty much everything the Defender will do and is pretty decent on a long journey.

Another early 3-door would do me nicely right now.

I had a lovely G-reg in that burgandy colour with the nice graphics down the sides that was brilliant apart from the crippling rot.

long bolt and selection of tube/sockets/washers to wind them out?

I was being a bit dense. I've done it before with a big socket, a smaller socket to push it through and a G clamp or vice.

The issue with these bushes is that they're two bushes pressed in at either side of the shaft, I'm sure they'll come out with some brute force.

CTRL+Shift+N for incognito in Chrome.

Everything Dave numbers says except the possibility of a decent one for 2.5k
