Footman James are quoting £95 to insure the Colt for the year...

Thats with 0NCD (its all on my daily), parked on the road (because they don't have an option for resident car park), and with no additional security.

Presumably I will get sweet FA back if I cancel or want to transfer cover, but that seems an awesome price...

Of course it's with 0% NCD. It's a bloomin' classic policy, so has hee-haw to either gaining/losing or maintaining NCD.

Now make if you next chariot of choice is eligible (e.g. over 20 yo) then it's most likely that the admin fee is £20 plus £1.50 card charge. Play your cards right and if you ADD a second eligible chariot, it may only cost the paperwork charge.

A few years back I was paying them £125 for five, yes FIVE motahs. It's crept up a bit since, but it seems to make bog all difference at renewal time how many cars are on it. Last renewal was something around £170 with named driver.

One year they refused to add a V300 to the policy (going from 4 to 5 cars on the policy) so I didn't buy the thing, Six months later after WilsonWilson decided to move the same car on, they added it without trotting any lame excuse out - This was under the SAME policy in the SAME year. So bear in mind sometimes when they say no, they really mean yes later.

It's ir cl. I will leave it and let her use the key :-)

You sir, are a legend.Thanks

But this is flawed! The supply for ancillaries generally comes from the same connection as the one for the coil feed when cranking........usually the solenoid.

If your voltage when cranking is that low the battery or starter is buggered........

Is it worth looking at secondhand air compressors?

If so what is good for diy stuff?

Posted

DIY stuff yes, commercial stuff gets fucked off only when it's bollocksed. Check for rusty shit coming out the receiver when you take the nut out. The better quality stuff has cast iron pumps and cylinders. The cheaper stuff when it's fucked it's err fucked.

I wouldn't bother secondhand

I got a cheap sip one around 15 years ago and its still going fine, done loads with it including a couple of full resprays. Think it was around £130

I change the oil every year though, that probably helps

A friend bought one from aldi £60 and that's been fine too

How much of an extra pain (if it is) is it to insure a Cat C or D repaired car?

Posted

Some insurers won't, some will but it will reduce the payout, some will without any conditions. My Cat C Audi was the latter, I told them and they said it didn't matter.

Naturally, some will not ask but then it'll be an issue in the event of a claim and they'll hit you with the "withholding relevant information" crap.

I wouldnt. Im fed up with changing suspension parts every year. The Escort needs bottom arms - its sorely tempting to get the cheap ones, but I reckon a bit more of a better brand will be money well spent in the longer term

I see no mention of a brand name at all on your link, which means its pretty much certain to be Chinese shit complete with fake CE marks.

What are those slidey switches for that are under train station platforms? They are all along the platform and have random (to me) numbers on them.

The cheeky bastards will lop around 25% off the market value if it comes to having to pony up.

Which is a load of tosh when you see the lame jobs some "approved" body repair shops do and they aren't markered at all.

I also wondered what they were

A Datum Plate

The details on the plate specify the relative position of the track, so that it can be monitored for movement.

A red slider block means that the data on the plate refers to the actual position of the track at the time when the datum plate was installed. A green block denotes a track design position, to which the track should be returned in the event of it moving out of alignment.

Is it just me or is that back bumper off-colour compared to the rest?

I've noticed a lot of new cars that the plastic panels don't match the steel ones very well

I think if I saw that on a new car in a showroom I'd assume it had a wee small booboo on the transporter getting there.

yes it is.

Cheers, I think the boot itself looks slightly 'off' to the body of the car too which is a bit suspicious. It's in Gateshead at the moment, but getting moved down here for inspection.

Look at it under an old orange sodium street light any colour mismatch will be obvious then.

Ta, will try that. It's an awful lot of money for something that needs to be spot on. Miles and colour help (though I think they look best in black) and it's a big dealership group, for what that's worth.

Think it's being brought down end of the week, so hopefully we'll know then.

Neighbours Seat was exactly the same re: miss-match. I think it is more noticeable on certain colours. 'cos modern.

I've never seen a main dealer try and pass off so much badly repaired accident damaged shit on the forecourt as Evans Halshaw
