What difference to the ride would fitting bigger wheels make?

The focus is on 14 inch rims and ride is a little harsh (probably because I am used to Saab wftiness)

Would putting bigger rims on help that?

Posted

Fitting bigger wheels would probably mean fitting lower profile tyres, so that they wouldn't ruin the gearing or foul the bodywork. Unfortunately lower profile tyres, having less sidewall, would make the ride even harsher.

Solid white lines are for no overtaking but you can cross them if the vehicle you're overtaking is going really slowly - I think the Highway Code says 18mph or something. So if you slow right down, they should still be able to get around you but it does seem safer than slamming on to a dead stop.

The main problem is those who are oblivious to some megawatt blue lights strobing away in their rear view mirror until they have to make a rush decision. Plenty of times I've pulled into a safe place to let one past as it closes in behind me, and megabrains in the car behind has got grumpy, honked and zoomed past because they think I'm just stopping.

I looked this up the other day because I knew it was changed some years back to cover moving objects.

It's not any vehicle though (think it's limited to a bicycle, horse or an "in use" road maintenance vehicle) and it's less than 10mph. Found it:

I walked past a VX earlier and it 'appeared to have...' lost its plastic sill extension/spats.

The sill had an exposed run of 'stickkie out' rivets, probably locators?

Do manufacturers drill holes into 'finish painted' shells for these rivets = rustfest?? Or are the rivets soft coated with a zinc paste/self heal???

Does anybody know how old this would be? Found one hidden away in the boot of the car and everyone at work is fascinated by it! It has the Sainsbury's website on the other side so can't be that old

Somewhere between 1999, when they rebranded the Storecard as the Reward Card, and 2002 when they were a founder member of the Nectar scheme.  My guess is 2001.

Top question, by the way.

I'd say June '99 at the latest. Some internet research suggests that the Sainsbury's logo changed then to its modern type.

I have a feeling I'm gonna be geeking out on this website tonight...

I bought one of those Sony tape adapters that everybody seems to rate. It works ok with the phone but it seems to pick up loads of interference from it, is that normal? I'm keeping the phone well away from the head unit.

I changed my plugs today & noticed the last ones were NGK LFR6B & the new ones are NGK LFR5B. What's the difference?

Volvo 850 T5 manual cars... cable gearchange or rods?

Approximately -1.

Of course! I was thinking along the lines of cooler or hotter. So obvious!

What's this badge from? I don't recognise it.

I'm pretty sure it's a caravan/motor home logo, possibly German, but I'm buggered if I can place it.

Volvo 940 throttle cable needs replacing.

Anybody done one?

If so how easy?

Any potential problems?

This happens to mine when I haven't switched mobile data off on the phone.

The new ones are "hotter". NGK is in reverse, AFAIK

I think they only creates explosive gasses while it's charging. You should be okay with it just sitting there.

I've got a seatbelt pre-tensioner I removed from a seat in the shed I've no idea what to do with. They contain a small amount of explosive, certainly enough to turn my fingers into burst sausages. I may take it to the scrappy the next time I'm there and drop it down my trouser leg .

I know exactly where that pre tensioner would go if you worked at the commercial garage that used to service my lorries a few years ago, in the bloody brazier in the yard together with any spare aerosols, loaded or not, bunch o bloody hooligans they were there, patch on the corrugated roof where there experimeted with an airbag inside one time,  an aerosol went off and a whole pile of burning rags landed on the top of me transporter body, fortunately empty at the time, good craic though and kinda miss those days.

Automatic headlights?

Is that why none of the newish cars are running with headlights in this fog?

Conversley I see new cars with only DRLs on in the dark, so no rear lights. They should have the auto lights on!

In fairness I'm always a twat for driving without lights on anything that lights it's dashboard up all the time.

I've got an old-ish car battery in my house at the moment (in the absence of anywhere else to keep it).

Will I die?

I've had one in my 'workroom' (no actual work takes place there) since March-ish and no ill-effects observed.

It is currently powering a 1.5M strip of LEDs, just to see how long it will go for.

There's nothing wrong with it other than it is under-spec for the C5 and probably belonged to Noah.

Replaced it when I had a new starter motor fitted.

I bought a brand new battery for the last C5 and it was superfluous, existing battery was fine.  Stored it in the bin cupboard until I needed it - and by then it had turned into a £65 paperweight :(

Some one told me that the water that comes from a tumble dryer is de-ionised, the same as in water for an iron or a car battery.

Is this correct or have I been fed a load of bollocks?

PS I don't want to put it in a battery, just curious to know.
