Don't think mine has a DMF? Anyone know how much of a ballache it is to do on these?

Depends, if you have use of a 2 post lift then its do able. However doing it on the drive is a swine. Ignore the sadists who say theyve tackled several on the drive, this is a big undertaking if you are on your hands and knees, taking the weight of the gearbox as you will need to split these as well as disturbing the suspension and subframe. If you farm the work out id be tempted to take it to a garage that regularly deals with clutches as they are most likely to get it right and quickest/cheapest

There was a bloke on ebay selling fobs, plus a little gizmo that plugs into the OBD port which fires the right code into the ECU for the fob. Only works as supplied, the code is just for the fob that came with it so it's single use.

No chance I'd even attempt it myself, such a thing is way beyond my skill level (which is somewhere around the region of being able to change an air filter whilst only losing half the bolts and skin on my knuckles).

Rear caliper is sticking on civic. Is it worth rebuilding them or just replacing them?

Can get a rebuild kit including pistons for about £40 whereas caliper said are going to be £200

Is it handbrake integrated calliper? They're fun to do with the correct tools. You'll need motorcycle fork cur lip pliers and something to compress the spring to reassemble. Cleaning the hardened gunk out and having it working again is very satisfying.

Also, does it make a difference that the pedal vibrates in neutral?

Sounds like one or more of the pressure plate fingers has broken on the clutch

Possibly a broken or perished engine/gearbox mount.

I've heard in the past that the Honda NSX is somehow related to the Austin Maestro - is there any truth in this?

Helping clear out the inlaws' garage, I found about 4 gallons of five year old petrol/diesel mix that was accidentally put in a diesel fuel tank. Apart from making Molotov cocktails, is there anything useful it could be use it for?

Posted

Petrol diesel mix from my local garage goes in the boring, the 750cc Fiat Panda or the garage heater.

Could a PSA XUD (n/a) lump/box be easily fitted to this, and would there be implications come MOT time, as obviously shit like the EML etc lights on the dash wouldn't work? I wouldn't be arsed about emissions, as I'm think the veg oil and the cat would sort that out?

Posted

*if* it fits the ratios will be all wrong and it'll be shit to drive.

But I don't think it will fit...

Posted

I'm fairly sure that Blingos use the same floorpan as the 306 and ZX so I think it could be made to fit if you had the right bits.  It would probably be easiest to fit the whole lot from an early but rusty XUD powered Berlingo then you could put in the dash with no EML light.

Emissions shouldn't be an issue as they are based on the oldest part if you swap engines (though how many testers know this?).

Emmissions won't be an issue because the diesel test is the same for the older stuff. You get a little more allowed smoke on a turbo diesel than a normal one, but it's an easy test to pass. Also, if you get a case where it does make a difference you test to the older standard - car or engine. Proof of engine age required at time of test.

EML isn't a testable item, missing cat/DPF could be put down to the conversion and passed.

^ Ignore my post above; for some reason I thought you just wanted to fit the gearbox.

This will seem like a really stupid question but I can't get a straight answer...

Changing the i10 1.1's clutch, as far as I can tell, I will need to remove the driveshaft on that side.  Do I need to drain the gearbox oil first?  It appears to be normal practice to do so but Hyundai insist that the i10's gearbox is 'sealed for life' which is why I'm wondering if I'm wrong but there is a drain plug.  I can't find specs for capacity or oil type anywhere though.

Posted

Nice find Tayne, thanks!  I can't see how it could possibly be 'sealed for life' anyway if you have to drain & refill it when the clutch is changed (somewhat frequently on the early i10s like this one where the friction plates appear to be made of chocolate).  I've also seen reference to the original gear oil being pretty poor quality from owners who have had reason to change it although how you can tell that is another matter.

Will do, it seems to have a tiny leak from the fill plug anyway so will crack those off first and get new seals/o-rings where applicable as well.

Is there a thread of 'highly rated autoshite cars' anywhere?

When the pride was first mentioned on here there were a few who piped up to sign it's praises (quite rightly, I think), and the current proliferation of Rover 200/400s, Pumas, small Peugeots, EXECUTIVE Audis and so on would all warrant a mention I would think.

Or would such a thing just be an internet argument waiting to happen?

who would people use instead of shiply to get a quote for posting a moped from ramsgate to swindon?

They both run on petrol, this may be closest they get I believe.

Inspired by Skizzers recent Executive shenanigans and my unusual lust for fat Hondas I've been perving over this.

Do any of the more mechanically minded people among us have any idea what the issue with the relay might be, later V6 hondas suffer with dry joints in the fuel pump relay, could this be similar?

If I do go to that there Wales to redress the Executive balance, how much of a bastard is Port Talbot to get to?

If a relay needs a tap to wake it up, probably just needs the contacts cleaning.

Warning! It might be what the relay is plugged into. Dry solder joints are a possibility.

Port Talbot is junction 41 on the M4.

So buy it.

Top man.

I know nothing of V6 Hondas, but Port Talbot is easy to get to as the M4 goes right over the top of it (and there are various exits).  Unless you're starting from mid/west/north Wales, in which case your journey will cross many mountains using slowly winding goat tracks.

I think some 80's and 90's Japanese cars can look either a bit odd or just plain boring. Sometimes however they just seem to stumble onto a great design and that model of Honda Legend is one of them.

On the motorway if two cars are pulling into the middle lane, one from inside lane and one from outside, who has right of way?
