What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

It seemed one step above an auction... I knew my car had faults, they must know the cars they see need to be moved quick and so are probably riddled with faults too. Why else would I shun £5k on autotrader to take £3600 from them?

The only other quirks were the guy was referred to by three different names - the one he introduced himself to me as, the one the mechanic called him and one he answered the phone as. I got a bit nervous then so I sneakily took a few photos of him on my phone. And a family came in to collect a Meriva which clearly hasn't been made ready as they all started stalling for time. But, my finance got paid off and I've not got a TDCI Focus weighing me down any more.

Going through my spots update from March I was reminded I did in fact take a picture of the BMW with CUNT written on the back of it.

There was a smell of burning wafting over the m40 the other day. I turned the radio off and opened the window and went a bit paranoid over the rear brakes for a bit

Then the smell stopped, must have been a fire wafting over!

Its amazing the number of times the nissan has suddenly been filled with horrible burning smells, hot metal smells, boiled dry smells - every time I panic and think 'shit, something has just gone, its game over for me' and then it turns out to be something in front of me - almost always a car thats much, much newer. most recently there was a ford mondeo mk4, about 6 years old - diesel, and definitely running on almost pure engine oil. it took about a week to get rid of the acrid smell from the nissan afterwards. The mondeo can't have made it much further.

Is it shit design, or neglect, or both?

Because the aged parental units are descending for Easter lunch tomorrow, Domestic Management has decreed a major tidying.  Those who have visited Chaseracer Towers will understand the extent of such an undertaking.

On the bright side, I have found some early 70s copies of CAR and a bag full of stuff from the 1982 Motor Show, including brochures for Lonsdale, Hyundai Pony, Austin Rover, Lada and "the very acceptable" Dacia Denem.

My brother wanted to borrow the 405 to help move a friend so we swapped cars.

Tonight Matthew I have been driving clk 320 cdi. Fuck it's quick. No wonder they are driven by lunatics. Really hard to stick to speed limits.

Also you feel so disconnected from the road that doing 70 feels like nothing. Steering feels OK but a bit Sega rally rather than you are driving this 2 tons beast. 70mph is 1800rpm.

Mpg is only at 35 but it changed my mindset, from that's shit mpg for a diesel to that is mega mpg for such a quick car. Parker's reckon 0-60 7.6 seconds

Nice.  Is that a 3.2, or do the numbers not mean what they suggest any more?  If it is, that MPG is pretty bloody good!

What made me grin today are two things.

1. The BX isn't as bad at distances as I expected but it does need higher gearing for sustained motorways.

2. The members of this forum are what they were. Much pleasure was had in talking shit old cars to like minded people. Plus I could talk INVICTA to someone! ( made my day, that did six-cylinder although I seem to be wrong about the engine in the de tomaso.)

That is all.

Yep 3.2 v6 diesel

I think Merc's numbers still mean roughly what they say (apart from with some of the AMGs).  It's BMW's that have all gone to pot.  I'm pretty sure the current 330d is a 0.9-litre 3-pot with 7 turbos and three superchargers.

Almost ,the 320 is actually a 3.0 V6 the same engine has also appeared with 280 and 350 badges.

In fact at one point there were only 2 Diesels in most Mercs the 2.1 4 banger that could be 200d,220d or 250d depending on how much the wick was turned and the 3.0.

I had that 3.0 with a Startec ( basically Brabus) remap in a Chrysler 300. It would do 6.8 second 60s on the 0-60 timer in the computer and still average 32mpg even with 300k on the clock.

The Merc lives! New head fitted. Need to change the oil before it goes back into service though. What a relief that is.

Just had a call - the 106 1.5D purchased from an Autoshitest then hooned through Europe for months and left parked in a backstreet near Lisbon airport is still there and unmolested after 6 weeks.  Sleasyjet ticket bought

Nice one! Full report of re-collection required.
