A trio of V8s

Alas only one is mine, the one that’s worth less than the cost of the little yellow crest on the wing of the Red one. I left it here last week when I took out the car I drove to France. The Corniche is also in France now, the E430 can stay there until I get back in August, hopefully it’ll be collected by then . But If for some reason I do have to do a C&C ad. I think I’ve got my lead photo!42ECA8CB-A4E4-4285-8C9F-A460AE21233E.thumb.jpeg.706472eb10e50a44da815601d03707fd.jpeg

This is the first weekend we are allowed out since lockdown so I took the Cortina estate out on Saturday but it started losing power when warm so only did 25 miles in it. I decided to go for a proper run today in the Granada and went over the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains to Brecon and back.A very scenic route and we were lucky enough to see several interesting cars. Not long after leaving home a Sunbeam Alpine and Gilbern convertible followed us for several miles, they then stopped at the top of the Bwlch then at the bottom of the Rhigos a very nice Anglia Super joined the road behind us and followed us for several miles. On the way back from Brecon we saw a Consul convertible,a few MGB’s a very nice Mercedes plus the hundreds of motorbikes that were out. One of the best grins though was the gleaming Austin Healey driven by a jolly man who waved at us as he passed in the opposite direction. A really nice day out which showed how important old cars are for making everything feel right in the world.

That’s lovely, I really like a pre-facelift Mk2 with no extra adornment on the front; fogs, spots, overriders etc. It emphasises what a clean and clever resin the Mk2 was.  Of the many Grannys I’ve had in the past one of my favourites was an S reg 2.8 GL in white with a black vinyl, my Mrs used it for about a year when my second daughter was born , so 30 years ago. It was stolen and joy ridden when I left it at a body shop to have the front valance painted- it was immaculate apart from that, the scumbags put it through a garden wall and the guy at the body shop gave us an SD1  rather than claim on his insurance.

Crikey I bet that's a bit nice inside! (bar a useless shat nav that's hard to update or play other source music, I don't think a2dp Bluetooth was on them then and the aux hack involves a wire from the boot iirc)

From where to where?  Were there any restrictions at the border?

No restrictions just crossed the border by car and back. Said to be an outbreak in both Lisbon and Oporto.  Went to the airport but only saw two GNR (cops). One was smoking with his visor half up.?

But my stepdad said he would see what he has in his box of stuff, and my plan B is 2 tidy 10mm nuts and bolts, set it to dead flat, and drill 2 holes, then always take a 10mm ratchet with me when setting it up.

The cover is just about to come out of the washing machine, if it survives ill crack on. I've wanted one for ages, having slept on one before they are mega comfy. If I can get a free one going enough for occasional use that will do!

Bed thing is fucking comfy! The cover survived a 45 minute 30 degree wash fine, so I put the cover back on the frame as it'll dry better being stretched a bit, and bodged the broken pivot with cable ties temporarily and I've been lying down on it for half an hour, oops!

Saved £120 too looking online even if I just end up bolting the pivot together and assembling on each use.

Have you a vernier to measure the thread? There's bound to be a generic substitute. That said given the retail price it's worth contacting the maker to see if they sell bits.

My old man found my old Minolta Zoom-8 cine camera. Battery holder is bad and it appears to still have film in. God only knows what's on the film, I think it was in there when I bought it.

Know anywhere that develops super-8 film still?

Phil

perhaps one for @1970mgb maybe? I know he does quite a bit with film photography so perhaps he knows a place that can do Super 8 film still? :) (or knows of someone who might know!)

Working on cars, even if it's doing really small jobs, always puts me in a good mood. Went on a small supplies run, gave the Polonez 3 new wiper blades and blew the air filter out with a compressor. Filter looked pretty much new, but was full of dandelion seeds.

Gonna have to get round to giving it an oil change one of these days. Oil is pretty fresh, but I'm not that happy to run it on 15w40, which is what the previous owner put in it. I think 10w40 or even 5w40 will be more suitable.
