Rediscovering this 2013 gem while going through my old spots thread and fixing pictures.  I doubt I shall ever take a better picture than this perfect A-framing moment.

Just watched hubnuts twk failure with the spark plug. Did make me laugh watching DW running alongside pushing it uphill with the engine running. Sorry Ian.

Also from the same video, a tappy tappet, is a happy tappet. Although, perhaps they were more sloppy than tappy. .25 ?

For some reason, I set them to 0.25 and 0.30 the first time. I think that's what the racers use. Then scaled them back to 0.20 inlet and 0.25 exhaust, which is what I normally use.

To my great surprise, the passenger "door open' light has decided to start working, some 21 months after buying the car. There is hope for the driver's side yet!!

Fixed it for you.

Just keep the drivers door closed and always get out the passenger side, then the light will never not work properly.

I met the gf's brother for the first time last night...Nice guy but, as it turns out, somewhat of a militant vegan who spent half the dinner telling me why my choice of food (basically chicken and cous cous) would kill me and why I wouldn't eat meat if I'd ever set foot on a factory farm. I've nothing against vegans or anyone who chooses to follow their own path, but Steve is the type who will visit busy town centres with a banner and try to convert people going about their own business.

In an effort to change the subject I went for the old male standby of "what do you drive", and it turns out he's a bit of a closet 'shiter. After the main course we head out to the car park to look at his immaculate black LWB X308 Sovereign complete with personal plate with "Love animals, don't eat them" message along the bottom...And, yes, full leather interior emoji1787.pngemoji1787.png

Problem is that if you buy the fabric interior, it's not wipe clean, and he wouldnt be able to remove the stains of smug self satisfaction.  Plus the dyes used to colour it are a by product of the hamburger trade. Probably

Is it law that all 2CVs have to have quaint girl's names? Are there any called Steve or Barry or whatever?

Needed some poxy plastic clips to put wheel arch liners back on disco. Discovered they're only* £1.50 each and I need about 15. Er, no thanks.

Found out P38 ones look similar-ish and are £5 for 20 delivered. Much better and they fit :)

this video is LOLs :) half inched this video from @dollywobbler facebook page (where else would you expect to find such a video!)

(video is blocked from embedding sadly)

I think one the reasons it makes me grin is the music and the way the wipers move reminds me of this video LOL

This week has turned into quite a trying time due to a couple of unexpected events. Two things of note have helped me, one of which has been the patience and understanding shown to me by one of our number. He knows who he is and I greatly appreciate it.

The other is this torque wrench. This used to be owned by a guy called Victor who lived across the road. I'll try not to go on, but he was a brilliant chap. He'd owned, driven, crashed and rebuilt some amazing cars over his driving career. He used to regale me with tales of the cars he'd worked on in the street outside his house, the scrapes he and his friend's had got into when they were younger and the "solutions" he'd employed to keep things moving. He had so many stories, often hilarious and all fascinating. He'd forgotten more about cars than I will ever know, and was always willing and ready to offer advice or lend a hand.

Victor died almost exactly 6 years ago, quite suddenly. One of my final memories of him was seeing him stride over the road, this time with torque wrench in hand, ready to help me when I'd got stuck with something (again). I can picture him so clearly, even down to what he was wearing, almost as if he were walking across the road to help me right now. For some reason, I guess due to this strong image stamped on my memory, I had often wondered what happened to this torque wrench. I assumed a family member had taken it to use, or perhaps it was left in the boot of his car when it was sold after his death. Imagine how I felt when his wife called me over to see if I wanted some old tool, as she had no use for it. She opened the cupboard and brought this out. Stupid as it sounds, it was all I could do not to burst into tears in front of her. I did briefly explain I remember him using it, and was chuffed to have it but left it at that so as not to risk upsetting her.

Suffice to say I'm over the moon to see it again, never mind own it. I have three other torque wrenches so I don't "need" it, but none of them have anything close to the value of this one.
