Is that in Birtley?

well spotted ! I was just having a bit of a drive around, exploring the area

Thought so.

It is a scrapyard - I have bought a couple of bits for my C5 from there but he is mainly Vauxhall.

I used to frequent the place a couple of units down, K Engineering, for various fasteners.

There's a place in the corner that had three huge jet engines that they took a couple of years cutting up - apparently one of few with a plasma cutter licence to do that.  They looked ex-RAF.

I used to work just over the railway line, near the bridge on what was Station Lane Industrial Estate.

useful to know, it's rather odd being 'new' to the area, but fun exploring - I justify it as planning new routes for running, not just being a nosey get :)

Just stop looking at the news. Literally zero you can do about it all and getting annoyed makes zero difference. So no point even knowing about it all.

Being oblivious to goings on has made me a lot happier.

this - theres fuck all you can do even if you could vote for them (which would never happen in a million years) - cant avoid (sadly) in the media - only hope is the country doesnt have a meltdown

please stop mentioning it :P *finds lump hammer

Proper Toranas bring a big price tag like proper Cortinas and they are rare here.

Apparently it's Clean Air Day today, so went a post by our esteemed* Chief Exec on the council intranet anyway.

I celebrated it by driving my 31 year old diesel Citroen to work, congratulating it for surviving (almost) three times the average life of a car. As we clattered along in the early morning sunshine, I wondered about the volume of greenhouse gases saved in not making those extra two cars that haven't been needed to replace it.

If I'd remembered this, I'd have driven the 31-yr-old CX to work, having first poured some tetra ethyl lead into the tank....

On the way in to work this morning I was followed by a silver Ferrari 330 GTC.  Almost made me feel like Richardmorris.

The M18 was closed for about 20 mins and I'm in the second lane.

We get moving and the first lane isn't moving. There's a Transit with half a mile of nothing infront... Guy behind the wheel sparked out.

I didn't have the heart to beep him.... Mainly because he would have driven  into me.

This is very true, start of the month when I was at the Citroën rally in Coventry I had no news, no radio or internet for three days and it was bliss. Very relaxing and calming.

Eggs type had MOT today, swapped a tyre, 2 new injectors and more 501 bulbs than I can be arsed to specify. Still:

Been offered the job i was head hunted for. Assuming the contract is what I expect will be handing notice in next week... 2 month notice period but only have to work 3 days of that!

Naieve question, but I’d have thought that being head hunted meant you had the job If you wanted it?

You still need to interview usually, however much of a formality it is.

Fair enough. My last interview was in 1995.

Public sector so nothing is ever straight forward - although I was the only candidate at interview stage.

Still been burnt before so no chicken counting till all signed and sealed.

Pleasing 1980s timewarp moment on the way to work in the week. I was driving the E-reg Sunny when coming the other way I saw this:

1984 Opel Manta 1.8S Berlinetta by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

And then this a car or two back from it:

1987 BMW 528i Auto by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Or it might have been the other way round, it doesn't matter. I don't think they were together, the Manta is a fairly regular local sighting and I saw the BMW 30-40 miles away a few weeks ago. Shame the A-reg Renault 20 that I've seen several times locally wasn't also out and about.

Right, as promised I went to view the Astra I mentioned about a couple of days back.

It is a one-owner (now deceased) car, 56,000 genuine miles on the clock. Purchased from Edwards Vauxhall in Lowestoft, Suffolk in January 1984 and lived in the area all its life. The owner stopped using it around 20 years ago (after ‘98 as it’s been SORN’ed) and was put away in a lockup and forgotten about.

Ive had a look and on the face of it, it’s not too bad. There is a lot of surface rust on the bodywork and the rear arches are looking frilly. The front valance has been bent up (I managed to pull it a bit straighter) and there are rust scabs here and there. The sills look to be in good order and there is surface rust underneath but without having it on a ramp I can’t tell what it’s like.

The interior is in very good condition, a lot of period stickers and trinkets, especially in the boot. Original radio (I think). The ignition column has been taken apart so assume there isn’t a key with it.

Its a halfway house, it’s good enough to be restored and used or good enough to be picked clean for spares. The yard owner will sell it complete and I have no doubt that it would start and run with some petrol down the carb. He is open to offers. It is still on SORN with the Doovla as no certificate of destruction has been done.

That Astra looks very sweet, would be great to see it saved if that works out. Not one for me though, sorry :-(

I know nothing about it, but my son has been headhunted a few times. As I understand it....

You can be headhunted by a company with an internal headhunter, which probably means you have got the job if you want it.

Or headhunted by an external headhunting  firm, who recommend you to a company possibly along with a few other people.

The Company make the final decision.

Once you are on a headhunters books they tend to offer you other jobs as years go by. Mainly because they get huge commission, and it's easy money for them if they know you already.
