What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Finished my job at just before 3 yesterday so nipped down to the yard at my other job and was delighted to find the workshop empty.

Got the long suffering Focus up on the ramp and finally got round to changing the turbo actuator valve thats been rattling around the car for weeks and the reverse sensor on the gearbox thats been driving me slowly insane by operating the parking sensors constantly.  Did the oil and filter too which was a PITA as always.

Was finished by 5 so could get it out the way before the place was locked up and its so much better.  Will probably have to drive to the Highlands soon so it really needed doing.  I had been waiting for an opportunity to do it with the apprentice at work so he could learn something but he didn't seem interested so I should have just taken an afternoon off ages ago.  Nevermind eh?  192k not out.

I have a pact with a former colleague of mine, we play Popmaster every day and we agreed that if we ever scored 39, we'd email in. I assumed it would never happen.

Managed it on round 2 today. Pleased but now that means I've got to do it!

just tried and 39 on the first one

didnt listen to the second one yet

New phone (S25 Ultra) is very shiny and cool, particularly the camera.

The highest res photos are too big for the forum, so have a compressed screenshot:

and a zoomed in crop from the original:

and another shot from the same spot at maximum zoom for 200mp mode:

The AI features are mostly fairly crap from what I can tell, but that's not why I got it.

The same could be said about any camera phone after the Nokia 7650 of 2001.

Can it? How many phones of 15+ years ago spit out 50mb jpegs?

Resolution wise most cameraphone photos are physically too big to display sensibly, but how many are *that* overkill?

I'm mostly just confused that there doesn't seem to be a built in way to create a downscaled copy.

Very impressive!

I recently bought an A15 and its camera is so comically shit it might be the first phone I replace before it actually dies.

Samsung phone hardware ace. It's the Samsung UI makes me sad.

Hence I'm on Google Pixels and have been for years. Currently on a 8Pro

My last phone was an A13 5G and that was exactly the same.  Vodafone had a deal on at the time where you could get an A13 and a Galaxy tablet for the same price as the A52 I'd been intending to buy, and I was persuaded by the smooth-talking salesman that the A13 would do everything the A52 would.  Which was bollocks of course, it was worse in almost every way (other than battery life) than the A42 I had before.

I replaced the A13 with an S24, which while not quite as whizz-bang as the S25 Ultra is still pretty bloody good.  Optical zoom is a real game-changer.

Had a job interview yesterday, the company makes a hoist which uses two motors. The two motors have different gear ratios, one to lift people and one to lift parts. I suggested they could reduce the motor count to one if they used a CVT, the guy interviewing me replied, “yes, like they used in Volvos and DAFs”, it made me chuckle meeting someone with a similar knowledge of shite old cars as myself.

had a moment of clarity and realised the router is supplied its web bits via a n/w cable from the fibre modem ...

oh my main cable covers that route , one unplugging , plugging up session later ... dumped the access point and some cable

I now have one wifi router in the middle of the house now going full speed  and one switch doing the network ...

Its handy isn't it! Mine's all in the hall as that's where it's got space but when I wanted the wifi to reach out to the car to update my android auto head unit, I unplugged the router, plugged my main run cable into the dsl Fibre box, the ran an ethernet from the switch behind my desk to the patio table and waited for it to all come back online 😂

My son wouldn't like me moving it from the front of the house, the wifi reaches over onto the green out front where he plays 🙄 I don't need wifi out on the road behind the house often enough to put a repeater in either

Not sure if this should go here or in the grumpy thread, but on a road near me two holes very close together, both had been marked with white paint and now just one of them fixed WTF?

Typical ESCC. There's a big section of scarring here that got white marks a couple of years ago, still there. A shallower patch a metre away got sorted very quickly. Nonsensical.
